Not loud enough for me to hear

I need hearing aids most of the time. I used a Bose Bluetooth headset for years until they quit making them. I was hoping the Apple AirPods would work for me. Music was ok on my iPhone but I could not hear what people were saying in a phone call. Needless to say I returned the AirPods to the store. If you have normal hearing I'm sure they are great.
