Luther Heggs aspires to being a reporter for his small town newspaper, the Rachel Courier Express. He gets his big break when the editor asks him to spend the night at the Simmons mansion that, 20 years before, was the site of a now famous murder-suicide. The case has aroused local interest not only because of the anniversary but due to the fact that the family heir, Nick Simmons, has returned to Rachel aiming to tear the mansion down. Luther's account of his wild, ghost-ridden night in the house leads Simmons to sue for libel, but with the aid of his friend Kelsey they determine what exactly happened that night long ago and the identity of the real killer

A no brainer purchase for any transformers fan.

The REAL Transformers movie, not the fake Michael Bay junk, finally on Blu-Ray! (If all you know is the Michael Bay version of Transformers, well, this is the original, TRUE Transformers, with characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron looking as they OUGHT to look, and acting like they ought to act. I'll put any five minutes of this film against anything in the live-action flicks, and it'll win, hands down.)

A side-splitting comedy about four mental patients: Michael Keaton as a habitual liar who has violent tendencies, Christopher Lloyd as an obsessive-compulsive who thinks he runs the hospital, Peter Boyle as a former advertising executive with a messiah complex who likes to take his clothes off, and Stephen Furst as catatonic couch potato. Against the wishes of the hospital administration, their compassionate doctor takes the four patients to New York City to watch a major league baseball game. When the van reaches the city, the doctor has to exit the van - with patients still inside - only to witness a murder committed by two corrupt cops. The doctor is attacked by the cops, leaving him hospitalized and unable to help his patients. The patients then find themselves framed for the murder. Now the patients have to not only act "sane" to prove their innocence, they also have to save the life of their doctor who is still a target of the two cops.
What makes this movie work is the relationship of the patients. It is so much fun watching Keaton, Lloyd, and Boyle bicker all the time about the littlest things. Boyle has a really funny scene in which he leaves the van while Lloyd tries to block him. Boyle then muscles his way past Lloyd, tells him that He shall have no false gods before Him, and finally he tells Lloyd to get out his way before calling him a seven-letter word. There might only be so much you can do with a catatonic character, but Furst is quite memorable. Even though the doctor must have the patience of a saint when dealing with them, he probably has a harder time suppressing a laugh. Quite simply, this is a movie that gets better every time you watch it.

This is one of my favorite movies and I cannot understand why it was dismissed by critics. A lot of the comedy is slapstick, with collapsing stairs, flying Perdue chickens and "weak" trees. But in the context of rehabilitating the house, they can get away with it. This is a truly funny movie with none of the grossness that usually passes for comedy in Hollywood. And it is a must see for anybody who has ever rennovated a house. We are currently remodeling our home and use terms from the movie all the time from the "Shirk Brothers" to "anybody call a plumber?"

I love this movie, John Candy at his best with Dan Akroyd playing the uptight rich guy that we all love to hate. These two characters clash throughout the movie, displaying a great chemistry between the two actors. Watching this movie makes me sad that Candy is no longer with us, as he was just fun to watch.
The reason that I give this 4 stars is that I could not stand the forced summer teen romance that was a part of the formula for most movies in the 80's. They could have cut those bits out altogeher and it would have been better.
The physical comedy between John Candy and an eleven foot grizzly make this a classic and a must-have.

This is the greatest comedy of all time, second is Clue. It has a whole bunch of great lines and an outstanding score by Jerry Goldsmith (Patton). Even though Tom Hanks is really, really funny, the best character in this is Art, played outstandingly by Rick Duccomon. You have to add this to your comedy collection. The movie itself is about three men (Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, and Rick Duccomon) who get obssesed with what is going on in Tom Hanks' neighbors house. Art thinks that the neighbors are killing the other people who used to live there. But he can't be right. Can He? This is a must have for people who love comedy and mysteries. The lesson: Don't judge a person by his cover....... but don't be too careful.

Somewhat based on the book “I Am Legend,” this film is something of a cult sci-fi horror flick, with some slick action and some memorable scenes. It’s become rather dated and silly by today’s standards (especially with the outdated hairstyles, costumes, music, and everything), but if you enjoy other sci-fi films of the era (like “Soylent Green” or “Logan’s Run”), then this may interest you.
The story is not bad; the plot has some slow parts, but is mostly exciting. Characters are great; the main character is pretty well-developed. Writing and acting are decent. Photography is a bit antiquated, but still okay. Production design (sets, props, costumes) is interesting. Music is funky.
The disc has okay quality for the most part. Daytime scenes look very sharp and colorful; nighttime scenes have a lot of film scratches on it. There is some grain over the whole picture. And even though color is okay, contrast is pretty bad in some spots. Sound quality is average. Includes the same extras as the DVD.

The Public Enemy (1931)

"The Public Enemy" is one of the starting points of the great season of gangster movies, a very interesting work. It is not the story of the rise and fall of some big boss of crime. Tom Powers (James Cagney) and Matt Doyle (Edward Woods) are just small time crooks, and so they remain throughout the movie. Only, they make the big money that the circumstances of prohibition offer to any criminal. Tom is just a semi-illiterate, naturally violent thug. He is not even professional. He kills just out of stupidity or desire of a pointless revenge, that ultimately will severely damage himself. Further evidence of his cheap personality is shown when he instantly falls for the vulgar, tasteless girl Gwen (Jean Harlow). By the way, Harlow looks remarkably unattractive (to our modern eyes, at least). Was it a choice of director Wellmann? Matt is slightly better than Tom, but clearly he has not the guts to cross his mate.
In my opinion a major credit of the film is that it systematically avoids cliché. Neither Tom nor Matt are outcomes of poverty and social injustice. They come from simple but honest, decent and loving families. But they are both bad (that's the word) and they use the freedom and opportunities of their democratic country to make evil.
In "The Public Enemy" we find probably the first instances of the beautiful stylish cinematography and clever camera-work that will become the trade-mark of later gangster and noir movies. Some scenes are unforgettable, like the final one, or that under the rain, or that of Cagney abusing the girl. The brief scene of the killing of the horse is pure cinematic genius.
In the film there are also some naiveness and clumsiness, though. The way Tom undergoes the personality of his good brother is far-fetched. It is not clear why a gangster in a hospital, wounded in a gun-fight, is not under strict police control. The behavior of Tom's boss in the ending is illogical. Moreover, the part where Tom and Matt are kids is too long (we audience are all eager to see Cagney!), and action is a bit scarce for a gangster movie.
"The Public Enemy" was Cagney's breakout film, and really he makes a powerful and accurate job. Actually, a strong acting is provided by the whole cast. The director William A. Wellmann handles the movie with sound talent.
"The Public Enemy" is a beautiful and historically important movie. I recommend it to any cinema-lover

Andrew Dice Clay! You either love him or you hate him! There is no middle ground... I am in the “Love Him” camp. So sue me!
The Adventures of Ford Fairlane is one of a very few mainstream hits for 'The Diceman'. It always amuses and entertains and I've watched it at least once a year since it first came out in 1990. With that said, this review will be strictly about the video and audio quality of this release, rather than the film itself.
So how does Ford Fairlane stack up on Blu ray?
In a word, G R E A T !! The film comes on a BD-25 disc and as such the bit rate is on the middle end up things but not low enough to cause any unwanted compression artifacts. AVC 1080p encoded and presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio which is pretty much identical to the theatrical release. No java on this disc so disc resume works perfectly! IN fact , there is no disc menu and after the FBI warning the feature starts automatically. (make sure to stop the film at the end or pop it out or it will continue to play in a never ending loop)
Overall PQ is a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars, sometimes even 4 depending on the scenes. The encode is solid, but the source is still problematic like the DVD. Think of this Blu Ray as the "DVD on Steroids". While certain nighttime scenes or scenes with smoke look a bit washed out, they looked the same way in the theater and on HBO all those years ago when the endless repeats were shown during the 90's. In other words, THIS is what Ford Fairlane looks like and is not any fault of the transfer or the disc encoding. Natural grain structure remains visibly intact but almost never intrusive. It looks like a FILM which is good, since it IS a film. Fine detail is quite good much of the time and the colors are natural and vivid with the original color timing apparently intact. It probably never looked better in the theater. Banding, aliasing, DNR,and Edge Enhancement are not an issue. A light layer of natural film grain is visible during smokey scenes or when diffused light was used by the director. No getting around it but it has always been this way. I refuse to rate this disc lower due to grain, since it is a natural by product of the film stock and lighting used.
Fans of 'The Diceman' are gonna love how this looks!

...because nobody walks when it rains!!
There was another review of this product which incorrectly stated that this set was the shortened syndicated version of the show, and so should be avoided. I've done a lot of research on TAXI and this set (which I own) and I can absolutely confirm that these discs are NOT the shortened syndicated versions. Each episodes runs for approximately 24:30, which is exactly how long the original episodes ran for in the late 70s/early 80s. (Syndicated episodes are edited down to 22 minutes.)
One particular avid TAXI fan assures me that there is actually EXTRA footage in some of the episodes which never made it to the original broadcast. That was actually a sweet surprise, and while these new lines aren't always essential, they are definitely welcomed. (One such instance is when Jim goes back to visit his father. Alex goes with him, and the dialogue between Jim, Alex, and his father is more than when originally first aired. There are several episodes where this is the case, some featuring a extra line or two, others featuring more.)
Unfortunately, while these are not the syndicated versions, there ARE some instances when the episodes have been edited, but these are ONLY due to music right constraints. The episodes "Elegant Iggy" and "Jim's Mario" both feature noticeable instances of the cast singing songs that have been cut, for example.
Yes, it's a shame, but rest assured that the vast majority of episodes (i.e. those without singing) are exactly as they were originally broadcast. Not to mention the fact that (aside from one or two episodes) the show looks and sounds better than it's ever been.
And for those wondering: Yes, the bittersweet comedy still holds up fantastically today. In short: You SHOULD buy this DVD set.
