Definitely a must have if you use your xbox for music and other related stuff and want to do away with the controller which also gets turned off (after a while of not being used). This is where the remote comes in handy.
Is active the moment you lift it. Play/pause/next is a breeze. If you have a passkey setup, you can use the remote as well to unlock the xbox. Needs to be in direct line of sight and it uses IR. No biggie. Worth buying!!!

Yes you can play if your device is DLNA certified. I have a Blackberry Q10 and I can play my music, pictures and videos on the TV. You just need to be on the same WIFI and enable sharing from your mobile.
Search for the TV, add it and then while selecting source on the TV, you can find your Mobile listed there. Just select whatever you want to play and voila.. you are good to go!!!
