I found that if you don't use the cable that comes with the Mophie, it will charge your phone but not the case. The case itself will charge your phone to full charge very quickly, which is awesome! You really only get one charge at a time out of it though. I would never recommend the S6 to anyone as the battery life is beyond terrible. This product has saved me several times!!

If I were to drop my phone with this case will the phone and/or case be effected?
I've dropped mine and everything was protected. It's a pretty heavy duty case.
