Beautiful Looking Normal Router
on April 22, 2018

As a gamer (DOTA 2 !), consistent internet performance is imperative for me and therefore I choose my routers very carefully. The Norton Core is an excellent router but the main selling point of the router are the added security services which cost money after one year. Therefore it comes down to be a normal router if you dont buy the extra services and to be honest you can get the same internet services with a router less than this.
So the bottom line is, it is a very good router with good and consistent performance but if you are not looking into getting this for the security features than I suggest that you get a normal router.

Nice Compact Speaker
on April 12, 2018

After using may different wireless speakers of many different brands I think I have found the best one. The sony speaker looks and feels great as compared to the JBL and Beats speakers in the same price range.
Even without the extra sound boosting features in the Sony Music Center App, the XB21 sounds very good. This little speaker produces a room filling sound that accurately plays back voices and a range of musical notes. This is clearly not an audiophile speaker, nor is it intended to be. This is a speaker that you can easily place on a coffee table in a living room, office, patio or take with you outside and listen to quality music playback. So for me, the XB21 is a fantastic little speaker.
I havent tried the features like tap and dance and dont really think are the main selling point for this speaker. It is a cool extra feature which I dont think people will use that often.
The buttons are rubberized and good quality and a sealing rubber gasket covers the back panel where you can find the charging port and a few buttons used for various features. The entire speaker is IP67 rated which means it can get wet (or completed immersed) in water and survive. Not sure I'd want to test that but there it is.
As far as small, versatile, portable speakers go, this Sony is arguably the best one I have ever seen or heard. Set up was easy, a full charge lasts a good long while (Sony says twelve hours and in my experience around 10 hours), and some people will love the fancy light feature I was disappointed that it only has one colour and not multiple colours like the XB31 or XB41. Definitely dont buy any color other than black because the silver/white light will not be visible. For me, it’s all about sound, and the sound is adequate overall, but generous for a speaker of this size. That is to say, it’s pretty good so I give it 5 stars but honestly think that multiple colour lights and USB charging port should have been included in this price point.

Good Compact Projector

The projector is very easy to setup and is just basically plug and play and you not need to install it or anything. The image quality is really good and sharp and with excellent colors and white balance but please understand that this is a business class projector and therefore it is not as bright as a home theater projector. Having said that, keeping the price tag in mind, I believe it really delivers with some excellent image quality. The speakers are decent enough as well. Doesnt have a built in WiFi which I think should be standard for all projectors in this day and age.
Overall a really good projector from a price point and the image quality.

Reliable and Cheap Home Security
on March 9, 2018
Posted by: Turab

The best thing about the SimpliSafe defend system is that it is very easy to setup and use out of the box. Can be configured and setup in like an hour or so and the customer support is great and provide easy to follow instructions on how to use it. The other great thing about SimpliSafe is that it's a completely configurable system, with five packages available. If you feel the need of a camera, you can easily add one to this system, Similarly extra sensors can also be added. The base station is capable of managing up to 41 of them.
The base station that powers the SimpliSafe system is a 10.5-inch-tall large white plastic cone with a blue light at its base; it glows steadily to tell you that the alarm is on, and pulses to tell you there's an error with one of your sensors. Setup of the base station just requires placing it in a central location within 400 feet of your sensors and 100 feet of your keypad(s), and plugging in the included power cord. It doesn't connect to your Wi-Fi router, which gives you more freedom in placement. Inside, there's an 85-decibel siren, a backup battery, and a SIM card that allows cellular communication for monitoring.
The keypad and sensors are powered by user-replaceable lithium batteries, which should last about five years with standard use, and the system will warn you when they need to be replaced. Installation requires no wiring or drilling. I simply pulled off the battery-activation strips, peeled the backing on the 3M Command-like strips, and adhered each component according to the instructions in the included Owner's Manual. Components are easy to move around without damaging your walls, and you can take the system with you to your next residence, which is a welcome feature. If you'd rather, you can use the provided screws to install the components in a more permanent fashion.
One nit: The hardware—particularly the base station and the keypad—looks dated. The chunky white plastic coupled with the tiny, monochrome display on the keypad look seriously retro.
When the alarm is armed and a sensor is triggered, the keypad will beep, and you have 30 seconds to enter your PIN. If you do not enter it, the base station siren activates and sends an alert to SimpliSafe, and the company will contact you via phone and ask you for the safe word that you designate during setup. If you don't get the call, or you don't provide the safe word, the Emergency Dispatch Center will send the police (or firefighers in the case of the smoke and carbon monoxide sensors).
Bottom Line: SimpliSafe succeeds in keeping things, well, simple: Setting up the system, which includes installing the keypad, entry sensors, siren, panic button, and environmental sensors, then setting up a PIN and testing everything took me about an hour.

Great General Purpose Security System
on December 31, 2017
Posted by: Turab

The Netgear Arlo Pro 2 is slightly expensive, but you get two weatherproof cameras and a base station with a built-in siren and USB connectivity for storing recorded video locally. As with the original Arlo Pro cameras, the Pro 2 cameras are completely wireless, use rechargeable batteries, and can be easily installed anywhere as long as they are in range of the hub, but this time around they bring 1080p video and Alexa compatibility, and when used with an AC power source, recorded clips will contain footage of activities that occur seconds before a triggered event. All of this makes the Arlo Pro 2 our top choice for outdoor security cameras.
The Arlo Pro 2 is very easy to install and configure. Start by downloading the app and creating an account. Connect the base station to your router using the included LAN cable, power it up, and when the power and internet LED indicators turn green, tap Add Device in the app. I did this and the base station was immediately recognized and added to my account. I then inserted a battery pack into each camera (they come fully charged out of the box) and made sure the cameras were within three feet of the base station. I pressed the Sync button on the base station and waited a few seconds for the Sync LED to flash green, then pressed the Sync button on one of the cameras. Within 10-15 seconds the camera was added, and I repeated this process for the second camera.
The Arlo Pro 2 works with dozens of other smart home devices via If This Then That (IFTTT) applets and Stringify flows, and can be integrated into a SmartThings home automation system. It also works with Alexa voice commands to display video on an Echo Show or Fire TV device.

Great Projector for the Price

This is a great projector which has replaced the TV in my living room. I have been using this with a screen as my primary "TV" now. It is very easy to setup out of the box. I would recommend getting a wifi adapter with it to make even more effective, although that is completely optional. The picture quality is great with great contrast and deep colors. The 10W built in internal speaker is also good enough for day to day use and you can use the audio out to connect to external speakers if you want to have cinema experience as well.
Overall a really good projector at a decent price.

Beautiful Watch with lots of functionalities
on December 8, 2017
Posted by: Turab
from Chicago, IL
This is a sports watch with built-in GPS but is nice enough to be worn for day to day use as well. The watch face measures approximately 1.75” in diameter and is controlled by 5 buttons; the watch weighs under 2 ounces. The numbers are large and easy to read. The watch has alarm and stopwatch functions. It can also receive call, message and email notifications and control a music player if it is paired with a smart phone. The watch can track daily activities (steps, sleep, calories burned and notify you when you have reached your (customizable) goals. A full charge takes about 3 hours and will last up to 30 days if you don’t use the GPS tracker, or 13 hours with GPS tracker on. The watch will save and recall up to 64 workouts or 2,000 laps. It connects to telephones with Bluetooth. You can also connect directly to a computer with the USB charging clip. You can set watch controls and monitor your progress using the Epson View app (Android/iPhone/computers). The watch ships with a USB charging clip (transformer sold separately, but it will work in any standard USB charger), and a quickstart guide. A full manual can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website (recommended).
I have been pleased with this watch so far. It is easy to use and combines both GPS tracking and step counting features. If it is paired with a phone, you can receive call, message, or Facebook notifications. To increase accuracy, you can calibrate your stride length. The numbers on the face are large and easy to read. Note that the watch doesn’t have a built-in heart rate monitor. You can add a heart rate monitor chest strap if you want (sold separately). Without the heart rate monitor, the watch is probably most useful for fitness tracking (especially for walkers), since it doesn’t show heart rate zones. (Heart rate zones can be displayed if you add a heart rate monitor chest strap).
The GPS tracking function is very accurate, which is handy for photographers as well as for walkers. By uploading the GPS tracks from the watch to the Epson View app on my computer, and then downloading the tracks to the map module in Lightroom, I am able to geotag my photos very accurately. With the GPS track on, the watch battery will last about 13 hours, long enough for a full day outdoors. If you plan to use the GPS every day, be sure and put the watch on the charger every night just as you charge your phone for daily use. If you don’t use the GPS tracking feature, this watch will run for days (or even longer) without a charge.
Even though this is a running watch primarily made for running, its nice enough to be worn daily routine basis as well. This watch is relatively simply to set up and use. Still, to get the most out of it, it is helpful to download the full manual from the manufacture’s website. Overall, this watch provides useful functions like activity monitoring, GPS tracking, and phone notifications in a single easy to use device.

Good Speaker not very smart

I have been using it for about a week now so not sure about the 'gets better with time ' part of the product It surely is a really good speaker, the sound quality is really great and you can use it outdoors as well as it is very rugged and waterproof. Given its small size, it really packs a punch, Blasting 360° intensely rich sound with stunning clarity and deep, heart-pounding bass. The Wi-Fi/Bluetooth work well and I didnt face any connectivity issues.
I have used amazon alexa on my own as well and this built in one is not as good as the original alexa. Voice commands were had to be repeated 3-4 times. Hopefully with time it will learn to recognise.

Excellent Noise Cancellation, some signal issues
on October 22, 2017
Posted by: Turab
from Chicago, IL
The Sony WF-1000X Wireless Noise-Canceling earbuds are based on the original 1000X Wireless Noise-Canceling earphones of last year which received rave reviews from all quarters. The WF-1000X has managed to keep up to the expectations set by its predecessor. There are some minor connection issues that I have faced in my 3-4 day usage but they have not been severe enough to render the product useless.
What makes this product truly great is the noise cancellation part which works extremely well. From design point of view, It’s a subtle design that mostly sits in your ear. It sticks out a little, but not so much that it looks like you drive taxis. While the Sony WF-1000X won’t pass as those invisible earpieces you see in spy movies, the overall effect is a lot less eye-catching than the Apple AirPods’ ‘toothbrush’ design.
You’ll notice a transparent bit at the tip with an arc inside. That’s an antenna to make sure the two buds play nice with each other – the left ear handles information and relays it to the right.
The Sony WF-1000X fit very nicely. There are two types of ear tips in a range of sizes: the typical silicone ones and a rubbery-sponge style. It didn’t take much experimenting before I found one that suits me. Each bud weighs less than 7g and never feels like a burden.
Battery lasts 2.5 hours for me always rather than the advertised 3 hours, and the carrying case provides additional two charges so you have around 7 hours of battery timing which is decent. No volume control on the ear piece itself is a bummer.

there are conflicting answers as to whether the verizon model will be locked or not. purchase would be at full retail obviously

The phone comes locked or unlocked depending on your definition of what is a locked phone. The phone is sim unlocked meaning that you can use any carrier sim in it even if you get the Verizon version. The phone is bootloader locked meaning that you cannot get sudo access to the phone unless you completely remove all the software from it and install new android from scratch on it. However bootloader locked doesnt really will have any effect on day to day usage, you can use any sim.
