Do I need a new battery??
I have had a toshiba lapotop for about 5 years now. I love it!! Just recently the battery has not been charging. It says 0% available (plugged it, not charging). The plug connection into the computer seems to be loose. Would that cause it to not charge or do I just need a whole new battery and connection?
Laptop batteries typically last 2-5 years. Depending on how it was taken care of is which side of that 2-5 year window YOU get.
ANY time a laptop is plugged in it's charging - whether it's on or not. Many people don't realize this and leave their laptops plugged in for extended periods of time.
Also, using a battery TOO much will kill it prematurely, too. As will using it for 20 minutes and then charging it, allowing it to discharge too far, discharging the battery and then removing it for long periods...
ALL batteries have a finite number of recharge cycles; some are longer than others. The cheap knock-off batteries have VERY short useful lives, while most manufacturer batteries are VERY good - but they'll usually cost at least 5X more than a generic one.
Many things kill a battery, but I can guarantee you: five years will do it.
