Quite useful device, but not required

I have enjoyed my docks for my tablet and console controllers as they allowed me to have hands free access. This does the same job and adds much needed ports to a person who likes to be modular in his equipment. This allowed me to add a portable Blu Ray, SD card reader, and external HD to the Surface without bogging down wiring from the side of the device. Price is a bit of a downer though, but I grabbed it on sale at $150.

One of the reasons to buy the Surface 3

I wanted to replace my front room tv with a smaller alternative. Amazon Fire Stick was on my list, but it was a patch solution at best, as I used my desktop PC to do more than play Netflix. This adapter makes the Surface a viable alternate, with the wireless connect to allow me to remove the bulky SVGA cabling. One advisory though, remember to allow access though your firewall. I use Eset, and it did interfere until I used interactive mode to allow the proper connection.

I learned years ago to use screen protectors to limit permanent damage to your touch screens. This was a no brainer to me. I recommend the $15 price to have them install as well. Took them only 15 minutes on a busy Saturday to get mine and a friends done.

This tablet can replace a desktop in functionality. I have a I7-2600k hooked up in my main tv, and this Surface Pro 3 can do the same editing and video encoding as the desktop. My older laptop was struggling to keep up, but this tablet is holding it's own so far.

Power Outage Notification

Does this UPS have an app that will contact me if the power goes out?
Not sure about an app, but there is software you can install on a pc to monitor the device while it is connected.

Save up to 64GB of media files and other data on this Samsung MB-MP64DA/BBY microSD memory card, which features a Class 10 UHS-1 design for rapid transfer speeds.

will this work with microsoft surface pro 3?

Works in mine fine. Worst case, may get a problem with sd card not staying recognized. That can be fixed by making sure it's fully inserted. And if it persists, reformat it to NTFS format to increase the stability. SD cards default to exFat format when shipped for best compatibility.

How much useable space on 64GB microSD

How much data can be written to the Samsung 64GB microSD?
What is the unusable space used for?
usable space is 59.4 GB. Rest is used for file system, as all storage devices reserve space for the file index tables, etc.

Can you add more storage to a laptop with this??

If the laptop has a compatible port, definitately. It also makes a great way to transfer data between a laptop and desktop or tablet. I use mine as a storage bank for steam games and some videos to exchange when using between desktop and surface 3.

Will this micro SD work for a surface 3?

I am thinking of buying this for a Surface 3 tablet by Microsoft. There aren't any best buy stores near me so I would have to order this, that means I can't actually look at it and verify it will fit and function inside my surface 3. If anyone could help me out by letting me know that'd be great.
It works fine in my Surface Pro 3. You may encounter an occasional loss of the card being recognized. It is a flaw in the device. If that occurs, make sure it is mounted well, and if it persists, reformat it in NTFS format to increase stability. (SD cards are generally formatted in a exFat format for more compatibility when shipped)

Micro SD Card specifications: SDHC vs SDXC, class 6, 10, & UHS class, R differences speed, or physical too?

My Nook HD+ Guide shows 3 types of SD cards are supported: Micro-SD, Micro-SDHC, & Micro-SDXC, The instructions include the following limits: 1) "micro-SDHC cards up to 32GB, Class 6", (no class 10 mentioned.); 2) "micro-SDXC cards up to 64 GB" (class is omitted); & 3) "The UHS speed for micro-SDXC cards is not supported". What is the difference between SDHC class 6, SDXC class 10, & SDXC UHC, What is UHS? Are these “old” guidelines”, are they now interchangeable, and if not, why? Is this a speed issue, a design issue, or is there a physical difference? Under these guidelines, will a micro-SDXC 64GB class 10 (that does not list or include any UHS reference), work? Is UHS-1 the same as Class 10 or something new and "physically" different? If the nook is limited to a 32GB class 6 SDHC card, but can also use a 64GB Class 10 SDXC card, where does this UHS definition fit? The nook info is recent. The limited explanations of SDHC; SDXC, and UHS terms leave me too confused to confidently choose the right SD card for this situation. I didn’t find Class 6 microSDXC cards, will a (faster) class 10' SDXC work, most of them also list UHS, what is the difference? To add the Android to a nook requires an SD card, I’d prefer to use the larger 64GB instead of 32GB. Your guidance would be appreciated. Thank You.
HC stands for High Capacity. That standard maxes out at 32gb on average.

XC stands for Extra Capacity and can go to 256gb.

UHS stands for Ultra High Speed and can transfer data in a fully compatable slot at speeds surpassing 40 mbps.

In general UHS is interchangable to XC, and work in ports that support XC standards, but will not use their maximum speed.

Class numbers refer to the speed the card can transfer data at. A Class 10 card will work in a Class 6 in general, but if the port is limited to a Class 6 speed, the card will work at that speed instead of the Class 10 rate. The cards will scale down to match a speed, but will not scale up. But a Class 2 card will work in a Class 6 rated port also, but can't get the higher speed.

Hope that makes it a tad easier to understand.

will it hold games, like hidden object games?
I am using it to hold steam downloads and video files. It's fine for file storage and extra storage.
