I'm sure it's just going to take time to get used to this tray, but it doesn't seem to do it's part with the HP Sprout in getting a nice, full scan. It is partially the Sprout's issue of handling the ambient light. Overall, it's a worthwhile addition to the Sprout for those planning to scan a lot of things. Just be patient.

I really like this computer, and I'm not a Windows fan by any stretch. First, let me say the con to it is that HP decided to build their own software into Windows. While this gives it some of the great features it has with the 3D rendering, it also stops you from installing some programs (hence, the loss of one star in the rating). I needed a 3D program that can be downloaded on any other machine, but Sprout says to download it from the HP Marketplace. That would be fine if it were IN the marketplace. That sucks. Also, the touch panel and Sprout software quit working the next day. I used the built-in HP Support program to connect with support and found a different way to run updates. Apparently, the last update borked the system. Did a system restore and ran the updates through the HP program instead of the Windows option and all is well with the world again.
On the upside, this machine does a great job with 3D scanning and rendering. It's a great device for artistic folks to create and edit content. As a normal, every day desktop, it would be a waste of machine. I paired mine with the Dremel 3D printer. Does a decent job. Pairing it with the MakerBot Replicator next. I expect it to do a better job of printing.
