This Chromebook Rocks!
on May 6, 2021

I have used many Google Chromebooks in the past as part of my profession, but the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is the best (in it's price range) I have used thus far. It is based on the AMD Ryzen chipset which provides plenty of power for the Google apps and others that run on the Chromebook. The screen, while a bit on the reflective side, is Gorilla Glass making this a tough notebook. Actually, the whole thing is Mil-Spec'd for toughness, so I have no issues tossing it in my briefcase without worry. The screen is a touchscreen, but the touchpad is very responsive also, so you have the best of both worlds. The display is full HD at 1920x1080 dpi. It comes complete with 2 USB Type C ports, 2 USB Type A ports, headphone jack, Kensington lock port and a Micro-SD card slot. It charges by the supplied USB C charger, which at 15 watts is pretty quick. The Spin 514 can be used as a normal Chromebook, in tent (display) mode, or as a rather hefty tablet. With built-in AMD graphics I have had no issue with any apps I have loaded. The Spin 514 has 4gb of system memory and 64gb of storage. As I stated before, it also has a micro SD slot which I have a 128gb card in, so no issues with storage. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is an overall excellent Chromebook, a great step-up from the vanilla, basic Chromebooks on the market and used in some schools. It is versatile and allows for much more robust work to be accomplished. Highly recommended.

Good versatile sweeper, not for primary vacuum
on April 7, 2021

The Shark Wandvac is a very versatile and interchangeable sweeper, but please don't think it will replace your full-sized vacuum. Upon opening the box, I thought "How many parts does this thing have"? It comes with the Wandvac main body, a long tube for reach and a floor attachment. It also comes with a brush and crevice tool. Putting everything together and understanding how the floor charger worked was painless (you can charge it while in floor attachment mode, or by the wand itself (Cool!). It took me a try or two to understand how the dirt cup works, but I finally have the hang of it, just make sure the wand is completely over the trash bin. Now, I will say as a wand vacuum this does a really good job, both with quick clean-ups and in my car. It uses rubbery fins to beat the carpet or floor to pick up most loose items. It is not, however, anywhere near strong enough to replace my full-sized Shark. I would say it is great for picking up quick messes (it was a "high-power mode that is enabled by squeezing the handle, which helps greatly when cleaning the car) and really good on hard floors. Battery life was long enough to get me through my medium-sized house, with a little left over for some high powered extra messy areas. As a quick cleaner with lots of capabilities this is a good buy. Just make sure you know it's limitations.

Good Replacements for a Great Seal
on March 15, 2021

These Comply Foam Tips do the trick at really sealing off outside sound, and is also critical for bass reproduction. No seal, no bass... Anyway, make sure you compress (roll) the foam some prior to placing in your ear canal so they can properly expand to seal in your sound. Replacing the stock Apple tips was simple and straight-forward. Stop swapping between all the sizes that come with the Airpods and get the Comply Foam Tips, you won't regret it!

Great for Fresher Air in any Room!
on March 5, 2021

We didn't have high expectations for the BlueAir 211+ due to past experiences with other air "purifiers". Most just blew dust around and made the situation worse. This product has actually done what it says (so far). The unboxing was simple as was the set-up. Everything is pretty much already in place; just remove the packing tape where the air sensor is, put on the pre-filter and off you go. The 211+ has several modes; night (low), boost (high) and auto (based on how much air displacement that the air sensor determines). In other words, the sensor determines how dirty the air is and speeds up or slows down the fan necessary to clean the ambient air. The unit has a little LED on the front that gives you the status of the air sensor and what it determines the level of air pollution. Green (good), amber (moderate) and red (bad). The touch control on the top has LEDs in a circle also around the touch control to tell you what mode it's in. These LEDs turn off after a few seconds so as not to be distracting. We have not had to run it at full speed much, but I can tell you it is MUCH quieter than any previous air purifier that we have owned. In fact, on low speed you can barely hear it running! Some others have complained about the Blue Air 211+s having a poor or bad smell coming from them. We did not experience this, but it does have an "fresh air" hard to explain smell, I assume from the electrostatic system built in to assist the HEPA filter. It is built to help keep the unit from producing harmful ozone from the electrostatic element of the unit, but we had no way to test this. I can say that after a few days in operation in our rather large living room it has made a marked difference in the overall air quality of the room as well as a reduction of dust. The unit does not, however, have any app control or wifi connection for external control. It is a complete stand-alone device. We didn't need all those bells and whistles and would rather not pay for things we wouldn't probably use anyway. (Not everything needs wifi…) For us, it has been the best of the several brands we have tried so far (to include a couple of the BIG NAME systems). We highly recommend this unit and will update in the future were things to change (better or worse).

Good Starter Earbuds, with limitations
on December 10, 2020
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
The Yamaha TW-E3As are a good lower end, starter earphones. They are the type that fit into your ear canal and have a good overall sound. They compensate for lower volume listening by increasing sounds that are normally hard to hear at lower volumes. The effect does work, but there is no way to tailor this in the app, other than to turn them on or off. I found that no matter what, the bass (which I don't want a lot of, but at least neutral) was almost non-existent. I tried all the different eartips provided, but just couldn't get that all essential seal you need to get decent bass. After purchasing some "foam eartip: manufacturer's brand and placing them on the Yamahas, the earbuds really began to shine. Clear, concise sound. Good bass response. I had a completely different view on their sound. Unfortunately, a poorly designed case, no active noise cancellation (available on other earbuds at this price point) and poor battery life take away from the sound and ability of this product. The fact that I have a look to another company's tips speak volumes. Good starter set, but that's about it.

If you Have Arlo, You Gotta Get This Camera!
on November 7, 2020

Wow! This is a game changing floodlight and camera from Arlo. First, the camera is about the standard sized Arlo camera, but it is encased around LED floodlights on both sides. This makes the overall device much larger and heavier than standard Arlo cameras, but trust me it's worth it. The camera has an outstanding 2k HD output, and a really wide-angle view. The camera interacts well with my existing Arlo2 system and setup was simple. Now to the floodlight... Many have written that it isn't that bright or was weak. I'm here to tell you that it lit the area of my driveway quite well, easily overwhelming an existing motion light that I had used. Now, it supposedly is brighter if it is always plugged in, but due to it's location I cannot test this. I can tell you it is well bright enough for me as it is on battery power. The light from the floodlight enables colored night views and does a great job. The battery life is great (had it mounted for several days, with a normal amount of activation and the battery is only down 10%). Mounting was pretty easy, even did it without an assistant. There are plenty of videos on Arlo's site on how to mount and operate. Bottom line, this floodlight camera is a winner and a must buy if you need camera and floodlight coverage that work together! Highly recommended!

Good but Basic Webcam
on November 7, 2020
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
Are you looking for broadcast, HD-Level, top-of-the-line webcam? Move along... Are you looking for a solid, good picture, great audio with a very versatile 7-foot long USB cable that can be moved pretty much anywhere? WINNER! The picture, although not 1040 (it's actually 720p), it does a solid job with Skype and Zoom. It adapts well to lighting, as long as it's not extreme. The audio is awesome and picks up very well. The cable is extra long which gives you great choices on location of your camera. Mine is on top of a camera-less monitor, but I have pulled it across the room to be able to broadcast my Granddaughter on Skype. I still would have liked a physical disconnect on the camera, but if it becomes an issue I just unplug it. So in a nutshell, no where near the top of the line, but a solid, well performing webcam that just gets the job done for a great price. Recommended!

Good Photo Printer for What It Does
on October 13, 2020
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
The Casio Selphy Square photo printer does a really good job for what it does. It's just that what it does seems to be a niche market or hobby-type printer. The printer is a small dye-sublimation type printer, about the size of a large deck of cards or two. The paper, which is roughly the size of a playing card, loads from the bottom. The dye-sub film loads from the side. The whole thing is controlled by Casio Selphy app on your iPhone or Android phone. The app runs well and is pretty fool-proof and controls the Selphy. The printer spits the picture in and out so the film can print the different color shades until the finished product is done. The photos are outstanding and supposedly have a long life. Haven't verified that, but they do look good. The issue is they are really small and also have an adhesive so the photo can be used as a sticker... The film and photo paper is sold in matching packs, so when one runs out, all must be replaced. It comes the a sample pack, and more can be ordered through Casio or Best Buy. So for what it does, it really does a great job. Just not sure what you would want small sticker-photos for. Might be just what you are looking for, though.

Good Basic Wireless Mouse
on September 14, 2020
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
The Logitech M-190 wireless mouse is just a basic, no-frills, works without hassle... mouse. It is a full-sized mouse, meaning it is somewhat elongated to fit the size of all types of hands with the goal of giving the user a comfortable grip without too much pressure in the palm of your hand. It tracks very consistently on a most surfaces that I tried it on without an issue. I normally use a mouse pad, but would be just as capable on a bare desk or surface. It's scroll wheel is a concise worker that gets the job done. Left and right buttons are light and consistent also. It comes with the wireless dongle that takes up a USB slot and stores in the battery bay when not in use. That's about it... No back buttons, no additional input buttons, just a good reliable basic mouse that does it's best in the comfort department. I have used much more sophisticated mice in the past, but this one just gets it done.

Top Notch Keyboard
on August 4, 2020
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
The K380 is a relatively small bluetooth keyboard that made me believe that there wouldn't be much to it, with limited abilities. I was pleasantly surprised as this is a very functional keyboard with good key size and travel. I wrote several letters using this and an iPad it accomplished them quickly with few errors. Although it alludes to being Mac-only, I was able to pair this via Bluetooth to many other devices, including my TV! If you need a good, somewhat small Bluetooth keyboard, this is the one to get! Good job Logitech!

Add music to your day with these Sony wireless headphones. Their noise cancelling technology uses artificial intelligence to adapt to your environment and reduce background sounds for enjoyable listening. The Quick Charging battery on these over-ear Sony wireless headphones provides up to 35 hours of playback for convenience.

Is the Sony better than the Bose quiet ll When it come s to noised

I believe they both have their strengths, but the Bose overall has better noise cancelling. The Bose do, however, exhibit the "pressure" feeling that may complain about due to the level of reduction.

If I use it to make a call, does it also act as a speaker while I'm talking on the call, or can it be used in conjunction with a hands-free bluetooth ear unit?

On my set up, you are able to be on a call and receive navigation updates at the same time. You cannot, however, utilize Alexa at that time.

We have thick pads under our area rugs, will the ION-Robot be able to get over the height of the area rugs? We have several of them throughout the house. We bought a RUMBA and it was not able to get over them.

Ours is able to maneuver from carpet to hard wood floor pretty well, and my wife has the thick kitchen mats to stand on and it got over them pretty easily also.
