The FirBit Alta is a sleek, stylish tracker, that integrates will with your mobile devices and FitBit's online service.
The Alta tracks steps and sleep automatically. It can also auto-sense activity, though to get additional information (GPS map, distance, etc.) you should initiate activity tracking in your mobile device. It also contains a feature that nags you to get up and move at least 250 steps in every hour during a time period you set.
A nice touch is that the Alta has multiple display settings that support showing information of interest in either vertical or horizontal orientations. Additionally, it can show notifications (phone, text, etc.) which I thought might be distracting but has actually quite nice.
To be honest, I've taken to wearing this as a replacement for a watch without the complexity/expense of a Smart Watch. This one's a real winner if you ask me.
The only down side, the screen seems to scratch/scuff easily so invest in a screen protector before you that the Alta out of the box.

I love this trimmer! My main use is for trimming my beard and nose hair and also for side burn and neck cleanups between haircuts.
It holds an great charge and allows for use several times a week over the course of several weeks before needing to be charged. The charge indicator light is a great addition to know when you need to plug in.
The blade assortment is excellent and allows for all my trimming needs. The section of combs and guards is more than adequate. Combs work well, I can't comment on the stubble guards since I haven't used it.
The overall weight and feel are great, solid but easily controllable and the stainless steel finish is clean and stylish.

Does it display exact step count?
I'm not sure how to answer this. The value displayed is dependent on the display you choose (2,143 steps displays as 2,1,43 in horizontal displays and as 2.1K steps in vertical displays).
If you're asking whether the tracker accurately counts your steps, I can't say. I see it count some arm movements as steps when I'm sitting, but my daily counts don't seem wildly out of line with other trackers or pedometers I have used. In any case, so long as you are tracking apples to apples (FitBit to Fitbit) you can see your relative activity levels without worrying if it's an "exact" count.

What communications from your smart phone will you receive?
The Android app allows control of notifications for: Calls, Texts, and Calendar events. You can chose the mobile app (for example, Messenger or Skype for text messages) that will be monitored to forward notifications to your tracker

My device requires charging every 2-3 days. What happens when this weak battery dies? Can it be replaced or do I need to replace The entire Fitbit? Is there a procedure for swapping out the old battery?
My Alta only requires charging every 4-5 days and I have continuous sync, quick display, and notifications all turned on. I don't think your tracker should require recharging as frequently as you say it needs. It may be defective.
So far as I know there is no way to replace the battery on this device.
