Best Monitor I've Ever Used

Over the years I've owned monitors made by virtually every well known manufacturer out there, but this was my first hands-on experience with one made by Alienware. I was thoroughly impressed and now I can't imagine gaming with any other monitor.
Pros:
- The Quantum Dot OLED display is unrivaled and you are provided virtually every feature you would want in a high-end monitor. HDR, AMD FreeSync, VESA compatibility, and a 165Hz refresh rate are some of the most welcome features. Any game from my Steam library that I tested out looked gorgeous and played extremely smoothly.
- The 34" ultrawide screen, to me, provides the perfect amount of real estate for gaming. It also suited me well for non-gaming tasks, being able to view multiple large-sized windows at the same time. When gaming, the curvature helped me feel more immersed.
- Set-up was simple with a basic 2-step process to mount the monitor to the included base. I do not use a VESA set up currently, but am glad that I have that option.
- I love the available preset modes, including Chroma and Crosshair. (see photos for a preview)

A Classic Look and Fantastic Sound

This is my second Marshall Bluetooth speaker, having also owned the Acton II model about 4 years ago. Like the Acton II, the Stanmore III is both beautiful and functional, taking you back in time to the style of old-school amplifiers.
Pros:
- My favorite thing about this speaker is the design. It is gorgeous sitting on a bookshelf, looking like a perfect miniature version of a Marshall amp. From the leathery frame to the fabric and logo on the front, it's just one of those speakers that you want to constantly run your hand across.
- The onboard control buttons/knobs look great and function well. If you have used Marshall Bluetooth headphones you will recognize the pause/skip button. It's nice that they keep design between different types of devices similar.
- Not only is this a terrific Bluetooth speaker, but you can connect it to a record player or other device via the RCA connection on the back. An AUX port is also available on the top if you would like to connect headphones. The flexibility of how you can use this speaker is a nice bonus.
- While there is no rechargeable battery to make this speaker more portable, that is actually a positive as its life span should exceed that of a speaker that is dependent on a lithium ion battery. Just keep in mind that this is designed to be an at-home speaker (or for any place with electricity).
- The audio quality, as you would expect from Marshall, is outstanding. I've been going through my favorite playlists with my kids and having dance parties in the living room for several nights in a row. The bass hits better than you would expect for a speaker of this size and the highs were clear as well. Compared to the Acton II that I used years ago, the Stanmore III is a noticeable step above. You can adjust bass/treble with the onboard controls and also use the equalizer in the Marshall app to optimize your experience.

Excellent High-End Soundbar

With today's TVs, onboard speakers tend to not be the best so having a capable soundbar to pair with your television is critical. This new model from Sony is a fantastic option.
Pros:
- The sound quality is top-notch. Base levels were strong, even without a subwoofer. You can pair a wireless subwoofer with this model if you wish, sold separately. Dolby ATMOS brings your viewing experience to life as you get a full "3D" surround sound experience.
- The remote was comfortable and well-sized. Having multiple listening modes comes in handy, with voice mode making it easier to listen to dialog. Toggling to Bluetooth was simple and worked well. Music audio quality was fantastic.
- The soundbar is designed in a way that allows it to sit nicely in your entertainment nook, or to be mounted on a wall if you wish. A wall mount template is included if you decide to go this route.
- Make sure your TV has eARC capability, as this will allow your HDMI connection (cable included) to transmit your audio signal perfectly without any quality loss. An optical connection can also be used.

Affordable Noise Canceling!

Having used several different brands of earbuds over the past few years I have a good idea of what I like and what I do not like. This product from JVC impressed me in many ways.
Pros:
- Sound quality was outstanding. Whether listening to music or podcasts, I was really happy with the bass levels and overall audio experience.
- I haven't seen earbuds of this quality with a noise canceling feature at this price point. These are more affordable than what many competitors offer.
- Battery life was fantastic as advertised, rated for 28 hours of normal use and 22 hours if using noise canceling. Using them daily, I have yet to have the battery even come close to low levels.
- The charging case is well designed, with the buds sliding into place easily with a magnetic connection.
- Sound quality was outstanding. Whether listening to music or podcasts, I was really happy with the bass levels and overall audio experience.
- I haven't seen earbuds of this quality with a noise canceling feature at this price point. These are more affordable than what many competitors offer.
- Battery life was fantastic as advertised, rated for 28 hours of normal use and 22 hours if using noise canceling. Using them daily, I have yet to have the battery even come close to low levels.

A Powerful and Pricey Chromebook

I am a big fan of Chromebooks and have used one as my primary laptop for about a decade. I have used everything from low-end Chromebooks, to the higher-end models like this one and I have always enjoyed their simplicity, safety (malware protection), and functionality. I always suggest to people, that when they are in the market for a laptop and do not need to do much more than web-browsing, email, video streaming, etc, Chromebooks are always the way to go. And now with video game streaming, they can now be used for high-end gaming as well. Here are my observations with this specific ASUS model.
Pros:
- The specs on this Chromebook are very strong with 8GB of RAM, a beautiful 15.6" touchscreen (1080p), and plenty of storage space on the solid state drive.
- The screen can be folded over completely to function as a tablet (see picture). It's rather large to be used as a tablet, but having this option is useful when you have the need.
- The GeForce NOW app comes pre-installed and it was easy to create an account, connect my Steam account, and play games that synced to the service. I had some lag using the free rigs they connect you to, but I imagine that gameplay would be much smoother with a paid account ($10 per month to get the premium rigs). Using a free account gets you 1 hour of gameplay per session. Gaming this way can help you play high end games without needing an expensive PC.
- I enjoyed the keyboard and trackpad layout. A numpad is squeezed in and gaming keys are colored red to find easily.

Excellent All-Around Electric Shaver

I've used electric razors for over 25 years and prefer them to disposable/straight razors so I have a very good idea of what I like when it comes to these products. This 7200 model from Philips Norelco incorporates the things that I like about shavers I have used in the past and mixes in some cool new features as well.
Pros:
- Comfortable, clean, and close shave. This shaver not only flexes at the neck, but also with each of the 3 individual heads.
- Easy to clean, as it is waterproof.
- Excellent battery life (60 minutes). You'll only need to charge once every 2 weeks or so. The included USB charging cord is a nice new feature as we all typically have a USB wall plug. This is perfect for traveling.
- I love the digital display, mostly to see the battery life. It shows you one to three cells of battery life remaining. With other shavers I've had to wait until they start to sound like they are running slower and then I plug them in.
- Comfortable, clean, and close shave. This shaver not only flexes at the neck, but also with each of the 3 individual heads.
- Easy to clean, as it is waterproof.

Gorgeous Picture, Versatile Features

Having owned several projectors over the past few decades, Epson has had a solid history of putting out a good product. This 4k capable offering met those expectations and will make your movie/event night a memorable one, or could also be used as a primary display for all of your viewing content.
Pros:
- The picture quality is very impressive. Streaming some Lord of the Rings content in 4k (see photo) during my week of testing provided some breathtaking visuals. Gaming content was also something to behold. You can get up to 120 frames per second with 1080p content and 60 fps in 4k.
- Integrated Android TV makes this projector a terrific all-in-one home media device. The set-up process automatically can detect apps that you use within the Google store and offers to install them. I enjoyed the interface quite a bit as it was very intuitive.
- Even with some sun coming through my windows, this projector is bright enough to use during the day with curtains closed. Although, I would need to get thicker curtains than the ones I have to get an optimal image.
- The Android TV remote pairs nicely over Bluetooth and I love not having to point it directly at the projector like you would with infrared.
- While most electronics have a standard 1 year warranty, Epson provides a 2 year warranty on the Home Cinema 2350. That's great piece of mind when you are spending on a premium projector like this one.

Upgrade your current gaming rig with this iBUYPOWER Desktop. Good Starter PC to Build Upon

iBUYPOWER offers gaming PCs with varying components and performance levels. This model (SlateHAKO2110) should be considered entry-level, and ideal for someone looking to get started in PC gaming with potential intent to upgrade to better components over time. This PC could also work for you if you are just a casual gamer that doesn't need to run graphic-intensive games. If you only want to play games like the Sims or Roblox, this might be for you. Most games in my Steam library ran well on this PC, but anything that was graphically demanding was not playable to my liking.
With that being said, there are some positives to this PC. Some PC builders may not want to spend the time building from scratch. While the individual components are not high-end, you have a solid foundation to start with. And if you want high-end components, you are going to have to spend considerably more than what this system retails for. I see this desktop as being a great starter project for a parent/child where they can work together on upgrading components, tweaking here and there as they learn more about computers together. It's a terrific skill to work on with kids as it can get them excited about something that can benefit them down the road. The tower is well designed for easy access to make those upgrades and the tempered glass and RGB LEDs give it a beautiful look.
It was nice to see that a solid state drive was included in this model, however, it is only 500GB capacity. Hopefully you have a second drive you can add. Otherwise you'll likely want to upgrade this as well, or buy another. 500GB doesn't get you very far these days. The solid state drive does help Windows boot and shut down quite promptly. You will also notice faster load times when gaming.
If you fit the category of someone looking for a nicely designed tower that you can upgrade over time, then this PC is something that you could definitely consider.

Having used both iPhones and various Android-based phones over the past ~15 years, it is quite clear to me that I have found my favorite in the Pixel 7 Pro. Compared to other options out there, the price is competitive, and the performance is top-notch. Here are the things I liked most, along with some items to be mindful of.
Pros:
- First, the display is incredible. The 6.7” screen is much larger than any I have used before, but I welcome this larger size. As I advance in years and my vision isn’t as great as it once was, I found the extra real estate to be helpful, allowing me to increase font size a bit. The refresh rate peaks at 120Hz which allows for incredibly smooth performance. There is basically no bezel in the design of this screen and the curved glass edges make this phone a work of art.
- Phone calls I’ve taken over the past week sound great over both 5G and 4G network connections. Prior Android phones I have used had low speaker volume on calls and I would often be forced to use the speakerphone feature in order to hear people. The Pixel 7 Pro was noticeably louder.
- During phone set-up, I loved the walkthrough that the Google Pixel phone gives you to highlight some of its best features, including the ability to take high quality close-up photos, 10-bit HDR video, and the magic eraser tool to remove unwanted objects from pictures. This was a great way to introduce the Pixel to new users.
- Battery life has been great. With moderate usage, I run it down to 30-40% daily and charge it just once per day. With fast charging it only takes about 30-45 minutes to top it back off.
- Camera/video features are fantastic. My favorites were the 5x optical zoom, the on-screen leveling display to show you if your photos will end up crooked, and autofocus face detection. Low light capabilities were impressive too!
- First, the display is incredible. The 6.7” screen is much larger than any I have used before, but I welcome this larger size. As I advance in years and my vision isn’t as great as it once was, I found the extra real estate to be helpful, allowing me to increase font size a bit. The refresh rate peaks at 120Hz which allows for incredibly smooth performance. There is basically no bezel in the design of this screen and the curved glass edges make this phone a work of art.
- Phone calls I’ve taken over the past week sound great over both 5G and 4G network connections. Prior Android phones I have used had low speaker volume on calls and I would often be forced to use the speakerphone feature in order to hear people. The Pixel 7 Pro was noticeably louder.

- This phone is very slick and easy to drop without a case. Before the case I ordered was delivered, I dropped the phone a few times in my carpeted living room (1-2 foot drops, no damage). Being a larger phone, it is a little awkward to hold unless you have very large hands or have used large phones in the past. I highly suggest a textured case to improve your grip. The case I ordered (pictured) helped a lot and I have not had any issues since.
- A USB-C charging cable was included, but no wall plug. You’ll need to buy your own if you don’t already have one.

Excellent Sound, Excellent Features

I have used many sound bars from various brands over the years but this was my first from Denon. I did have a positive experience with a Denon A/V receiver about 15 years ago so I was excited to see how this system would perform.
First, set-up was quick and easy. The quick start guide was helpful and the wireless subwoofer paired with the soundbar almost instantly upon turning them on.The quick start guide also has a helpful chart to indicate what the lights on the soundbar indicate. Here are some other highlights from my first week using this system:
Pros:
- The remote control is well designed, allowing you to easily adjust your audio source, sound modes, and volume/bass levels. Other soundbar remotes I have used make it more complex to adjust bass levels or to toggle listening modes.
- The dialog enhancer feature is my favorite part of this system. Too many streaming apps these days have quiet dialog but extremely loud background noise, explosions, etc. This helps eliminate the frustration you get when you turn volume up to hear a conversation, and then have to turn volume down during an action sequence.
- Sound quality is excellent across all media. Music, movies, and cable/streaming TV all sound great, especially for content that supports Dolby Atmos. Being able to switch among listening modes conveniently on the remote is appreciated (Movie, Night, Music). Sound filled my medium sized living room extremely well!
- There are several connection options from AUX, HDMI, optical, and Bluetooth. HDMI is what I used in order to take advantage of Dolby Atmos. But I also use the Bluetooth frequently to play music from my phone.

There is no Aux audio output jack. It does not connect via bluetooth. It connects to your home's Wi-Fi network the same way a chromecast device does. Having a chromecast is optional, as you can have audio come directly from the Home device, or have it played through a chromecast connected TV.

No, any other services you use with this device would be optional. You can use free Pandora/Spotify/Google Play Music account with it, or a paid subscription, among other services.
