I was a little worried that famed nu metal producer Ross Robinson would steer these guys in a wonky direction, but their trademark thrash/punk/hardcore thing is still mostly intact here. Loud, abrasive headbangers. Definitely the work of the Cancer Bats.

These North Carolina dudes include members of Glass Casket and Wretched, but sound like neither of those bands (save for Adam Cody's jagged pipes). Columns err more on the grind side than the death metal one, but they do what they do well. The tunes are short and sweet and more often than not come with witty titles. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Despite residing under the umbrella of perhaps the most maligned genre of metal the world has seen in the last decade, TLTSOL have managed to carve out their own niche. Love Whitechapel but miss when they were more ignorant brutal and less pseudo-intellectual southern muscle? Dig these dudes. All brute, no brains, and perfect if your only mission is headbanging. Nothing wrong with that.

The 4 dudes from As I Lay Dying have moved on. It's impossible not to mention that band in a review for this one, but Shane Blay's vocals are very much a different animal than the incarcerated Tim Lambesis'. If you're reading this, you've probably already made up your mind about Wovenwar. There's a lot of fist pumping goodness on here, and a lot of stuff All That Remains did 8 years ago. Worth a listen for Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa's 6 string wizardry alone. These dudes have cops, and it's good to hear them on record again.

Here are the facts: Nachtmystium frontman Blake Judd leads a troubled life and makes great tunes. If you can separate the man who scammed many fans out of fictional merch from the innovative U.S. black metal pioneer, you'll find a lot to enjoy here. TWWLB is nothing short of enjoyable, continuing in the same vein as Judd's last album (2012's Silencing Machine), and longtime fans will certainly be satiated. That is, if they can get over what they've read about Judd online.
