If your getting this watch for running it is amazing. All the stats are great to have and this is the best Garmin I have owned yet. I had the 305 and the 220. Not such a good smart watch, but it is nice to get the text and call alerts.

I have had the 305, 220 and now the FR 235. This is the best one yet. I love all the stats it gives me while I am running and after my run specifically which zone I am in and my current heart rate. I am not a big step counter, but this does help keep me motivated. The only issue I have is I cannot seem to get call alerts to work. Watch is also very comfortable and light.

I understand it has a heart rate monitor, does it constantly track your resting heart rate though out the day the way that the vivosmart HR does? Also, can I change the type of work out I want my watch to track from the watch?
Yes, it tracks heart rate all day, non-stop. One of the watch faces you can get shows your heart rate on a graph for the last few hours. It also will show you during activity your heart rate zones and how often you were in each of the 5 zones. Yes, the second menu of the watch allows you to select which activity, such as a run indoors, outdoors, bike or Other. I do not believe it has a way to set up transitions like the Garmin 305 had, but I have never tested that function. I have only used it for running.

The video says it tracks pace and distance indoors. Does it do the same outdoors? if no, why not?
Yes, it does both indoors and outdoors. I have had several devices to track my runs including 2 other garmin watches and this had great accuracy.

Battery life?
Very long battery life. I charged it Saturday night to 100%. I used it all day Sunday including a 2 hour run, and now here I am on Monday morning and the batter is still at 73%. You can easily get a week out of the battery with the GPS on the entire time.
