Another great exclusive steelbook from Best Buy

Steven King's evil clown, Pennywise, has been updated for the big screen in 2017's box office smash, IT. Based on King's 1986 novel, the film is the first chapter of an intended two chapter story. What really separates this film from other recent horror entries is its depiction of childhood friendship. Without this element, it would devolve into the predictable jump scare-fest that we have seen so much in modern "horror" films. You really get attached to "The Loser Club" characters as we see them come together to battle Pennywise. The filmmakers really hit one out of the park with their casting decisions for this film. Child actors can be so hit or miss in films, but here I never really got that impression.
The Best Buy exclusive steelbook contains the 4K and Blu-ray discs, as well as a digital code that can be redeemed through UltraViolet and Movies Anywhere. I don't have a 4K setup as of yet, but the Blu-ray presentation is excellent. The video is very good, although a bit muted (intentional for the story). The audio is fantastic, and for those interested, the disc includes a Dolby Atmos soundtrack (awesome). As for special features, there are three featurettes and eleven deleted/extended scenes. Nothing earth-shattering here, but they make a nice addition to the overall package.
This steelbook comes highly recommended and is a worthwhile addition to any collection.

This form of online currency/credit comes in several denominations, all of which can be purchased from BestBuy. I personally like using these cards instead of my credit card when purchasing items from the PlayStation store (games, downloadable content, etc.) for security/privacy reasons. The cards are extremely easy to use and I have never had any issues with using them before.

Funko Darth Maul is a winner

"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge." Darth Maul didn't have very many lines in Episode I. But he made a lasting impact on Star Wars fans, who consider the Sith Lord one of the best parts from the Phantom Menace. This figurine from Funko is a stylized version of the formidable warrior and comes with his signature double-bladed lightsaber. The paint application is top notch, and is easily recognizable. The Funko Darth Maul is a great little figure and a worthy addition to anyone's Star Wars collection.

Journey to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the PlayStation 4. You play as an iconic Star Wars character as you wield a lightsaber to do battle, and you fight on battlefields from all three trilogies. Pair up with a friend for offline play in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Where's the rest of the game?

There was quite a bit of buzz behind Star Wars: Battlefront II. Fans hoped that lessons were learned from the release of the first Battlefront for Playstation 4 and X Box One in 2015. While the developers got many things right, there also appears that they got some things wrong. I feel that fans of the Star Wars: Battlefront series will come away from this game thinking that it took two steps forward and also two steps backward. Let me explain. The online multiplayer is really good. Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault are amazing and worth the price of admission. Online multiplayer also includes Heroes vs. Villains and Blast modes (essentially variations of deathmatch). The offline component is where this game really falls flat. The campaign, while good, is way too short and is restricted to one player. It is also a really predictable story, and one that Star Wars fans have seen before (many times). Arcade mode is really bad. It doesn't seem like they (the developer) spent much time with this mode at all. It seems almost half finished; what little gameplay is there is basically the same mission type over and over again across the same maps. Light side or Dark side doesn't really matter. There's also no way to play with vehicles offline. Horrible decision there, as flying in the Millennium Falcon, an X-Wing, or a Tie Fighter are big lures for Star Wars fans. While I hope that content updates are forthcoming in 2018, I'm not holding my breath. If you're going to spend a great deal of time playing online, this game is a decent purchase. If you're expecting a great online and offline experience, I can't say that I would recommend Battlefront 2. We're still waiting on a true, worthy successor to the original LucasArts Battlefront games.

Decent soundtrack, but Williams has been better

Star Wars: The Last Jedi burst into theaters on December 14, 2017 (USA) and has quickly become a very polarizing entry within the beloved Star Wars universe of films. As a lifelong fan of the saga, I have my own opinion of the movie (won't be talked about here). However, one of the things that I was most looking forward to was the John Williams soundtrack release. The original trilogy soundtracks are, in my opinion, masterpieces. Williams' scores for the prequel trilogy movies definitely had their moments, although I would be lying if I said that they belong on the same high pedestals with the scores for Episodes IV, V, and VI. When the Force Awakens hit theaters in December 2015, I was happy to see that John Williams was still composing the music for the new Star Wars trilogy. That score was pretty good, a worthy addition to any fan's collection, and I was hoping that his contribution for The Last Jedi would be just as well thought of. Unfortunately, I can't say that this soundtrack release stands out among those of his fine career. In fact, I was horribly disappointed. The score isn't bad, but there is nothing that stands out among the tracks. It is very forgettable and generic. Almost like it is the soundtrack from a Star Wars video game, where they are trying to invoke the great music of the past Star Wars movies. Sadly, it seems, we won't be reaching the great heights reached by Mr. Williams' original trilogy works. Or even the quality of the Force Awakens soundtrack. I can listen to the original trilogy soundtrack discs many times over. I'm not certain how often I'll be listening to soundtrack from The Last Jedi. Approach this one with caution, fans.

A good follow-up to the 1982 Vangelis classic

I'm a huge fan of the original 1982 Vangelis soundtrack for Blade Runner, which can also be purchased from Best Buy. I highly recommend the 25th Anniversary 3-disc package. Being such a fan of the original, I was eager to see what Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer had in store for fans with their soundtrack to the 2017 Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2049. While it doesn't quite stack up to the greatness of the original soundtrack, it is certainly one of the better releases for 2017. There are several really good tracks that fit well within the movie and I could easily place them in the same vein as some of my favorite tracks from the original. My only complaint, and the primary reason I have for giving this two-disc set a score of four stars instead of five, is the inclusion of several tracks that are songs by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Fans of the movie will be quick to remember their inclusion during the film. However, I felt as though they ruined the flow of the composed score by being placed right in the midst of the arranged track sequence. If Warner Brothers felt compelled to include these songs, they should have been placed as the end of the first disc or the second disc as a bonus. Overall, I definitely recommend the two-disc set for fans of the movie and feel as though it is a worthwhile addition to my movie soundtrack collection.

Brave the battle with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for Playstation 4. Vanquish a variety of characters in the game’s single-player arcade mode or lose yourself in the game’s engaging story mode to learn more about its immersive universe. Pick from a host of legendary characters, including Iron Man and Ryu whenever you play Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for Playstation 4.

I want to like this game, but......

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is the latest fighting game in a long-running series from Capcom. Featuring a roster of fighters from the popular video game developer and the celebrated comic publisher, MvC:I seeks to reclaim the glory of past iterations. Unfortunately, the resulting product falls a bit short of its lofty aspirations.
I purchased Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite to play with my nephew, who loved the limited demo that Capcom made available over the summer. He loves the game and its mash-up of characters like Spider-man, Hulk, Thor, Mega Man, Ryu, and Dante. The game ships with a base roster of 30 characters, but there are several notable omissions from both sides (Capcom and Marvel). There are already six additional characters confirmed as paid downloadable content, with more rumored to be on the way. The roster is decent, but I really miss many characters that appeared in previous games, such as Captain Commando, Jin Saotome, Akuma, Doctor Doom, Wolverine, and Deadpool. The game's presentation leaves a bit to be desired. The graphics aren't awful, but they aren't as good as other fighters on the market (Injustice 2). Some of the characters are incredibly bland compared to others on the very same roster. The DLC characters look great from what I've seen, but you have to pay extra to use those (they are free to those who purchase the Deluxe Edition).
Where the game really shines is in its gameplay. Capcom has crafted another great fighting game and really refined the system to make the two-on-two gameplay feel deep, but also accessible. The addition of the Infinity Stones/Gems is notable, as it adds a great mechanic to the game while replacing a third or assist character. I've seen many a match turn on the proper use of the Infinity Stones. The only negative to the gameplay is that I would have liked to have seen the addition of a mode allowing two players to fight on the same team against the computer. This was present back in 1999 with Marvel vs Capcom on the Sega Dreamcast!
Overall, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is a decent game. It could have been so much more. I would recommend caution when buying this game, especially in its current state. Maybe we'll see an "ultimate" edition down the road.

Great Movie, Average 3D

The highly anticipated movie starring the classic DC Comics character does not disappoint. Wonder Woman, the second highest grossing movie of 2017, stands out as probably the best of the DC movies. Gal Gadot reprises her role from 2016's Batman Vs. Superman, impressing as Diana of Themyscira / Wonder Woman. Chris Pine is excellent as her partner and guide to modern world, Steve Trevor. The introductory act showcases the beautiful island home of the Amazons. The second act is highlighted by Wonder Woman's introduction to the horrors of trench warfare during World War I. The "No Man's Land" sequence is exceptional in it's depiction of Diana's heart and determination. The third act is definitely the weakest part of the movie; without getting into spoiler territory, the end battle is a predictable CGI slugfest between the titular character and her mortal enemy. Definitely not as much fun as the rest of the movie.
I purchased the combo pack from Best Buy featuring the Blu-ray 3D disc, the Blu-ray disc, and a digital copy. As a huge fan of the 3D format, I was somewhat disappointed by the 3D presentation. There are some nice 3D sequences, such as a beachfront battle involving the Amazons on Themyscria. For the most part, the 3D is very average and muted throughout the rest of the movie. It's definitely not the kind of disc that you show off to your friends. The Blu-ray disc contains all the special features, including some excellent featurettes. There's also an exclusive, not seen in theaters epilogue sequence. One thing that I felt was missing from the extras was a commentary track from the film's director, Patty Jenkins.
Overall, I feel that Wonder Woman is a must-own film for super hero fans. Whatever package you decide to purchase, its a decision you won't regret.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3D

I recently purchased the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. This is a really great movie, serving as a prequel to the Harry Potter series of books and movies. Eddie Redmayne is terrific as Newt Scamander, and I really liked Katherine Waterston Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein. Alison Sudol was a scene stealer as Queen Goldstein in her feature film debut. Also, watch for a big time cameo reveal near the end of the movie. No spoilers here!
The 3D is very good throughout the movie, and as a big fan of the increasingly hard-to-find format, I was very happy to buy this version of the combo pack. Don't make the mistake of waiting on this one. Too many 3D releases are becoming hard, if not impossible to find in the United States. I highly recommend Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on 3D Blu-ray.

The "Complete" package for Kong: Skull Island
on August 11, 2017
Posted by: ILoveSteelBooks
from Detroit, Michigan
Verified Purchase:Yes
Best Buy and Warner Brothers have hit a home run with the Kong: Skull Island SteelBook edition. The package contains three discs and a digital copy redemption code. It is rare for a package to contain all three types of home media disc (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray / Blu-ray 3-D / Blu-ray), so props to WB for their inclusion together. No need to buy multiple versions in order to future proof your collection. I've watched the 4K Ultra disc and the Blu-ray 3-D disc and the presentation is fantastic. Some of the best home 3-D that I've seen this year. The feature itself is a great deal of fun, the very essence of a popcorn flick. A really solid cast and some great CGI effects as well. Also, make sure to watch all the way through the credits, as there is a scene after they finish rolling to help set up future movie installments.
Final word: The SteelBook is something of a limited, collector's edition. Tracking a copy down is well worth the effort.
