Still a good machine

Yeah, I know that Apple hasn't truly updated the MacBook Pro is years and the new ones have virtually zero ports, but my old one (the one with all the great ports and a CD drive) was getting a little slow, wouldn't unlock with Apple Watch, and wasn't capable of running Mojave. When I saw that Best Buy was discounting them a couple hundred bucks, I made the move. This new one is faster, and I like the keyboard.

Each new version is better than the last

We have a bunch of the 3rd generation Apple TV units, and reading the specs and reviews of the gen 4 and gen 5 didn't make it seem as if they offered that much more in the way of capabilities or performance to justify the upgrade price. Now that I've spent some time with the gen 5 Apple TV, I'm really enjoying it. The faster chip is nice, as is the new interface, and the fact that it seems automatically to sync apps with my iPad. I'd rate it more highly except for things that aren't really within Apple's control, such as the fact that Netflix doesn't contribute to the Apple TV app, and Frontier FIOS forces you to re-authorize everything, unlike some other providers. So, it's not quite the seamless viewing experience one might want, but it's getting closer, and it's already quite nice. Also, a big shout-out to everyone responsible for Zwift on Apple TV. Whoo whoo!

Content providers need to catch up

I had mixed expectations about the 4th gen Apple TV. We have a couple of the 3rd gen Apple TV units, and they work just fine, so I wasn't certain if spending the extra money for the new version would be wonderous or disappointing. Turns out, it's a bit of both.
First, the hardware and software are great. No issues there. The real problem lies in the content providers not supporting this product. For those that do, the TV app is really great, as is the semi-automatic sign-in to new channels.
For others (I'm looking at you, Netflix and Frontier Communications), the step up from the previous generation is more -- shall we say -- subtle.
Probably the best feature is that -- unlike on previous versions -- the 4th gen Apple TV allows the addition of new "channels" where software is available from the content provider. This not only allows you to add channels that aren't on the device as delivered, but also to delete channels you know you're never going to use. (you could always re-install them if needed later). This allows me to have much the same channel lineup on my iPad Pro and my Apple TV, which turns out to be more convenient than I imagined.
As support for tvOS improves, the TV app will become more useful at presenting an overview of what is available, without having to go into each channel to see what might be there. Can't wait.

Much smaller than expected

Didn't want to have to go this route -- both because I didn't need another outboard device next to our TV and also because even with the promised automatic source switching you just know that at some point you're going to have to do bounce switching manually.
Got it all connected and it seems to work, but it's so small it doesn't have the weight to lie flat if your cables have any twists or turns in them. Not certain yet what to do about that. Usually smaller is better, but not this time.
