I bought this monitor to pair with a refurbished HP desktop I purchased as a basic computer for my elderly mother, meaning neither heavy nor sophisticated use (i.e., no gaming, watching movies, etc.). Cost was a consideration, but also the LED back lighting for easy-on-eyes viewing and built-in speakers to save both space and $$$ figured in. The image seems fine to me (though I'm no discriminating judge and, as said, we're talking playing solitaire more than watching films). But the speaker amplification is so weak that I'll likely need to buy amplified speakers anyway, not because of sound quality (weren't looking for Hi-fi) but just to get enough volume for my mom to hear.. I considered refurbished monitor to go with refurbished computer, but the warranty with the new product outweighed the modest difference in price, making this, in my mind, the wise choice.

I bought used instead of new b/c for my simple needs the newest, latest, fastest technology wasn't necessary and I'd heard the rebuilt market was good for bargains. This is a third computer in our house, bought for my elderly mother so no gaming, streaming movies or music, or anything else fancy; just e-mail, browsing web for recipes, knitting patterns and the like, and playing solitaire at night. Since stationary location, did not need/want laptop, but (my own fault) I was careless and this model turns out to be rather deep for the space it's in (I confused width and depth when reading the description). Still with simple USB wireless upgrade added, it more than meets expectations (It is fast at these limited tasks), and I 'd recommend for others if they want just the basics.

The Wireless-G WRT54GL Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which connects both screaming fast Wireless-G (IEEE 802.11g at 54 Mbps) and Wireless-B (IEEE 802.11b at 11 Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connects wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as needed. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and the whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

Though not an IT pro, I know several and so asked them for recommendations. They said this was "the DC3 of wireless routers" and still more than up to my limited needs: mostly email and web browsing (no gaming, streaming video, etc.). It's apparently been around for years and has a great rep --- was once the benchmark, I gather. Has therefore both the pros and cons of older tried&true products: Nothing new and fancy, but all the bugs are long since gone, it's simple to set up b/c it is pretty basic, tech support types tend to know it and know what to do when you call with questions, etc. On the other hand, it's not as fast and so forth as the newer stuff, will get only more obsolete sooner than the newer models, and so forth. In short, it works fine for me for now, just as my friends told me. And it should be OK for a good while longer, I figure.
