There isn't any noticeable performance difference between similarly rated cables. So no need to get the insanely over priced Monster cables. If you are wanting to make sure you have the cables needed for 4K these work great. So you can upgrade the cheap parts first so you can be completely ready for that 4K player and TV you get this Christmas.

It is a first gen player but Samsung is usually really good about making sure their products are free of defects. Samsung has the best up scaling so even regular blu-rays look better. If you are an early adopter and don't have tons of money then this is the best, really only option, available right now.

I remembered when Best Buy would do the Upgrade & Save for blu-rays, and so i was wondering why Best Buy hasn't done it for so long? Because it was a pretty good way to sell movies, and i was hoping they would bring it back
Blu-rays come out at $20-30 and drop quickly to the $10-15 range. And a huge chunk of people have Blu-ray players, that can go for as little as $40. It is no longer financially viable to buy DVD at a couple of bucks a piece to make maybe a few pennies more on the sale of the Blu-ray. And the new 4K Blu-rays aren't that much more than the standard Blu-rays, so again no reason to have a trade-in option.

I have a Samsung television that upscales. So, I'm wondering if it would be pointless for me to get a Blu Ray that upscales...
If you have a fairly new, less than 2 years old, Blu-ray player then I wouldn't spend money on a new player unless you want one for every TV and don't have them yet. Best bet to wait till the true 4K players drop in price.
