I had read the reviews online before purchasing and they main issue they noted was that this machine used a lot of ink. So, I thought that was a "known" going into the purchase, but when I went to print my first document I found out the hard way that it REALLY eats ink.
I was not able to print even a single document on the machine before it ran out of both the starter inks and a regular-size (full) ink cartridge.
It just stopped functioning when I didn't have another color ink cartridge to feed it. There was no way to print the rest of the document, even in Black and White - although it gave me that option on the screen it would not actually print it.
Granted, the document was 50 pages long on 11x17, but the fact that it went through two ink cartridges (the starters and a regular color one) for a single document (and only made it to about page 40) is really unacceptable. There were only color photos on every other page of my document, so it's not like you could even blame the file I was printing!
I returned this immediately for a refund. Why is Epson making this machine with such poor ink performance?
Epson just came out with a new machine which uses liquid ink refills and is supposed to be able to print thousands of pages from each refill. I'm going to try that instead! I need a large format printer, but not at the cost of replacing the ink for every long document I want to print!
