To start, I am basing this review off first owning a Microsoft Band, then an Apple Watch with a brief trial with Microsoft Band 2, which I returned and continued to use until I got the Fenix 3. So with that in mind, the immediate thing you will notice is the battery life. Again, battery life. I could wear the Fenix 3 for a 7-10 days easy without having to charge it-and thats with using it with GPS, and getting notifications. With the Apple watch I couldn't make it a day with notifications and forget trying to monitor sleep. You would have to pick strategic times throughout the day if I wanted to monitor sleep. The fenix is just like a watch in that it's always on, no flick of the wrist-always on. which I still value. they call the devices smartWATCHES for a reason. So I know most people will probably state "But the apps on the Apple watch" and yes it does have a ton, but in reality 95% percent of them are not applicable on a daily basis once the cool factor wears off. Notifications are simple: click to read, click to delete. with the Apple watch its swipe, click trashcan, then reconfirm that you want to delete-oy vey. Now I love my Apple products, and I've been using them since the blue G3 tower-so no us against them type mentality its just that the Apple watch wants to be so much and doesn't really accomplish most at more than 75%. TL;DR. Pros: Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, Always on, looks great in direct sunlight (buy the screen protector-but then who doesn't?), GPS is great, battery life is awesome. Has controls (I just realized today how nice it is t click a button when you have gloves -it was 30s out-to control music or change screen for a run i.e. cadence, pace, heart rate. BTW I have a heart monitor (non gamin-still works) and shoe cadence thing which is cool to link up with. Also, for the guy who never likes to ask for directions it has a track back feature from where you started which is cool, so you don't get lost and you know become an extra is some horror film about lost on a trail and it gets dark and cue eerie music and crazy guy. #Aintnobodygottimetogetlost
Cons: Apps are not bad but scarce, don't expect to play a miniature version of whats popular on the Apple app store. or do Mobile banking.
Last thought: If you use popular apps like Strava, or others, the information can be shared on from the Garmin connect to those apps on your mobile device. So you still get the info.
