Great and Affordable Hard Drive

The low cost of the WD 1 TB internal drive is excellent, the installation is quick and easy and it works perfectly. I have been using it for over a month now with no problems. It comes with all of the installation screws to install inside the computer (I have a desktop) but you will have to purchase the power cable and the cable to connect to the motherboard ($5-$20).
I installed this drive in my wife's 5 year old HP desktop and it fit perfectly and it runs perfectly. It is super fast, and meets all of the needs of ordinary daily computing including word processing, email, net surfing and research all at the same time with no strain on the drive. I did not replace anything else in the computer. I did not need any other startup software from the manufacturer to get it started either. It worked right out of the box.
While a lot of computer experts are hung up on technical details and each and every specification; most non-tech people just want their computer to work again or store more data for them. This drive will accomplish both of those objectives. It is fast at 7,700 rpm, fast enough for the average person's usage. It is also very quiet, how quiet does it have to be? It is certainly as quiet as the drive that came with the computer originally.
The only bewares are that you have to be a little savvy to understand that you already have, or have access to, startup programs installed on your computer and that the computer is set to make the drive startup and function properly. Also, you have be able to plug the drive into the correct slot on the motherboard and know that there may be other programs your specific computer might need that could be necessary for the computer to recognize and utilize the drive you are installing. All of these items are not usually mentioned in most articles on installing drives but these are usually the issues that come up as problems in installing new or additional drives.
I am certainly no expert, but I can usually research enough to solve most problems. Not everyone has the time or resources to be able to do this. I would recommend that anyone undertaking a replacement or addition of a hard drive to do their research first.
That being said, this is an excellent choice for your replacement or additional hard drive.

Is this drive compatible with an iMac?

I installed this drive on a PC but I would guess that it would also work on a Mac. You always have to format a new drive, so that should take care of any incompatibility. In the past I have used WD drives as backups with Mac's before without problems.

Typically, internal hard drives like this would NOT fit into a Mac because of the size though. You need to be very careful and check all of the dimensions and compatibilities first before purchasing an internal drive. I would go with a drive designed specifically and labelled for the particular Mac that you have rather than try to make "something" else just work. It usually doesn't turn out well.
