Will this drive work with a Dish network hopper?
I believe the hoppers are limited to 2 TB drives. The 2 TB version should work fine.

does this automatically save from your PC or must you manually copy and save from PC?
If you mean will it automatically back up your computer if you just plug it in, then no. You need to use the backup software that comes with it or some other backup program.
