This running watch is a great performer as one can expect Garmin watches to be. But the optical heart rate tracking was a hit and miss for me. The heart rate data is too jumpy (I was wearing another watch with chest heart rate strap to compare with). But some of my friends have said it works fine for them. So I am confused.

UP3 feels comfortable on the wrist and keeps a low profile. The sleep tracking is fantastic since this band is one of the few such activity trackers which tracks quality sleep with metrics like REM and deep sleep. The UP app is also very good.

Run tracking and coaching is very good in general. But the app is a big let down. It is hard to see the charts inside the app on a cell phone screen (I have iPhone 6S). Would have been useful if same data was also available in a web browser. The connection between the tracker and the phone is not reliable (I keep the phone in the pocket of my running shorts). It failed to register a few of my runs because of connection issues. And even when it is connected, it keeps saying "connected" too frequently. I am not sure if that is because the connection is not reliable or if it is just a feedback indicating that all is well. I would like to see an improved app experience and a better way to look at and make sense of the data.
