Story
Another point of surprise for me here. Story mode actually feels like such. You go through a Mortal Combat Tournament and its plot twists while playing as all of the "good guys" and some "bad guys turned good". The story itself was enjoyable, slightly unpredictable (less so the more familiar you are with MK) and the cut scenes alone are about 2 hours long. Even though there's no "choice" or "multiple endings" it still makes you want to replay it several times, and the currency rewards (to unlock extra content) is quite substantial in story mode.
Game play
Plays like MK but better! The feeling is all there and you will easily remember the game you're playing but everything runs smoothly, the controls are very responsive and all of the "cool moves" are there, along with Fatalities, Stage Fatalities and Baby Finishers.
Mini games like Test your Might/Sight/Strike/Luck are addictive and fun.
Challenge Tower mode offers you 300 challenges, often unfair and messed up, like fighting without your head (disabled head moves of course…poor Jung Lao…), to fighting upside down, or having a slot machine decide randomly what will be disabled for that match…All of which will give you a sense of accomplishment; and if the challenges are too hard for you, you can "buy them out" with game currency and skip the challenge altogether.
Use the game currency in the Krypt to buy new outfits, concept art and new fatalities for your characters. View all you unlocked in the Nether realm (yes, they love their K's….)
Characters
You get the entire roster, you get to see what they're about and what they fight for in Story mode and you will even get some insight into them with the individual endings in Ladder Mode; not very deep unless the ending is about them falling into a pit, but of a higher quality than expected from a MK game.
Graphics/Settings
I was actually surprised by the graphical quality of this title. The blend of 2D and 3D was very well accomplished. It stays true to its roots but it feels updated and polished.
Sound
Pretty decent, mostly what you've been used to hearing at the latest MK games. Mostly background music, it doesn't stand out but it will not annoy you either.
Conclusion
Mortal Combat Complete Edition is a great game overall and this coming from someone who has been a loyal MK fan. The game looks great, plays great, there's lots of characters to choose from and lots to do. If you're a fighting game fan I would recommend you get this one.

The fact is that license games are usually quite mediocre, but sometimes there are nice exceptions. Still, even the Dark Knight himself hasn't avoided the downright terrible games, but Ark Asylum is a real surprise. It is easily one of the best license games ever and an excellent action adventure. The quality of this game should be the target for every license game maker.
Batman's longtime arch-enemy The Joker sets a prison called Black Gate on fire and lets himself get caught suspiciously easily. Batman takes him back to the Ark Asylum, but regardless of the tight security systems, Joker escapes and now has control of the whole mental hospital. Now Batman is locked inside the asylum operated by the Clown Prince of Crime and it's also filled with Joker's thugs and other crazy super criminals.
Ark Asylum's game play is excellent. You really feel like you are Batman. The core game play is adventuring, using bat gadgets and fighting. There's also a lot of surprisingly spooky horror elements. Like we all know, Batman doesn't have superpowers, he has an arsenal of different gadgets. He has his traditional bat gear , the grapple hook, the bat claw that you can use to bring down walls that are out of reach, the line launcher that helps you over big creeks and explosive gel which is a good weapon for confusing enemies by blowing up fragile walls. Batman also has his detective stare, in which you can see through walls and detect all enemies and important objects. It is used for trailing enemies, for example.
Batman can walk, run, fight, shoot himself up to the gargoyles with his grapple hook and of course glide with his cape. Moving can sometimes be quite stiff and can be frustrating in sequences that require precision. Fighting is fun and easy thanks to the free flow system. Batman can seamlessly move from one thug to another and that's good, since the thugs always move in groups. With a few upgrades, you can make the combat a bit more varied, since it can feel a bit too simple with default settings.
Stealth action and stalking enemies are also a big part of Asylum's game play. When you have for example, ten armed thugs against you, direct approach would be a suicide, so Batman slings quietly in the air and strikes from the shadows or from below. Silent take downs are very useful, since they don't attract attention, so be sure to use them.
Boss fights are not the most fun sequences Asylum, except for the Scarecrow fights. The really scary and surrealistic Scarecrow fights come out of nowhere and break the game's rhythm in a refreshing way. There's at least a dozen of DC characters in the game. The main heroes are Batman, commissioner Gordon, Oracle and Aaron Cash. The main villains are Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow and Killer. The Killer boss fight in the sewers is very frightening. The Ark island turns from Joker's dark fortress to Poison Ivy's deadly garden full of poison flowers during the story, so be prepared to focus on defeating different super criminals, since the game is not only about going after Joker.
Ark Asylum is a really beautiful game. The dark tone, depressing atmosphere and Gothic architecture make a great impression. The buildings are very detailed, from both outside and inside. Same goes for the environment. When you stare at the dark midnight sea enlightened by the sinister moon, the view is breath-taking. The characters also look real and are very detailed. It's nice to notice that later in the game, Batman's beard starts growing and his cape is quite torn. The background musics greatly support the dark atmosphere. Voice acting, though, is what steals the show. Kevin Conroy is great as the always serious Batman and Mark Hamill as the maniacal Joker is probably the best performance of his career.
The main story lasts for about twelve hours and after that, you can start solving the riddles left by The Riddle or finding his Riddle trophies scattered all over the island. In challenge mode, you get to prey on thugs and fight for points. There's also a Joker Download Content in which you get to play as the Clown Prince of Crime, which is totally different from playing as Batman. The Joker walks arrogantly, doesn't use bat gadgets, throws around chattering exploding teeth, uses X-ray glasses, has a habit of kicking people in the nuts and even fires a gun.
All in all, Ark Asylum is an excellent action adventure game. The night in the asylum and the island surrounding it is something you shouldn't miss. Even if all the superhero games were as good as Asylum, it would still be an accomplishment for it's awesome quality. This one is hard to top. Ark Asylum will be remembered fondly for years.

I'm not going to lie when I say MK is my favorite game franchise of all time. I love the gore, the characters, the story, the secrets, and inside stuff that true MK fans know about, but adding DC characters was a bit dicey, but surprisingly works. The game's story is pretty straight forward with both universes colliding and each sides' main villians are turning into one and controlling everyone else through a type of berserk mind control. You can play as various characters in separate story modes, but it's nothing special.
The Arcade mode is where it's at with all you favorite MK characters and DC characters such as Batman, Superman, Cat, and even Capt Marvel. Each character on the DC side has their signature powers and they are awesome to play as. The game's combat system is more like it's roots stripping away combat styles, weapons, and complicated combos with just fast paced fun. The animations are smoother, controls respond better, and the game really packs a punch.
Of course it's hard to please both sides of the fence, but the MK side takes a hit with no gore. I guess Midway couldn't get the DC guys to allow Sub-Zero to rip Superman's head off so the Fatalities are pretty lame. They feature no gore, but just really brutal deaths, and the DC guys never kill so they are Heroic Brutalities...yeah what BS. This really screws the MK fans, but the DC guys are very tight arsed about everything, and that's why I still think this should have been Marvel instead (the last Wolverine game was gory as sin). Some DC Hero Brutalities are OK at best. Joker's one of my favorites with him shooting a fake gun and dancing around in his silly fashion, but most are pretty lame like Green Lantern just running around a character a lot until they die...yeah really exciting. The MK characters are a little more retro with Scorpion turning characters into char so this is OK. I just wish the game would have been gory, but what's here is good enough.
The MK guys really captured the characters of the DC personalities like Cat slinky sexy movements, Joker's maniacal pranks, Batman's precision martial arts, and Superman's brute force. It makes MK fans really want to try DC characters without sticking to their favorites. Or course the roster could have been a lot bigger, but thanks to Midway tanking extra downloadable characters will never happen like planned.
There are some nice new features to the game such as a test-your-might type mini-game during Free Fall Combat and Close Combat which allows you to grab your opponent but the camera zooms in and you press buttons to trick them until get every hit in for 30% damage. Free fall is the same except you have to hit RB before you hit the ground to unleash an attack on them. This changes up the fighting and adds a nice tough, but could have been a bit more. The new Rage mode allows you to take advantage of this berserk mind control and makes you nearly invincible for a certain amount of time. Along with this combo breakers return, but that's about it.
The game looks really good and is the first MK game on a next-gen console. Characters are rendered in sharp detail and have more detail than ever before. Each DC character has their signature costume and looks amazing, but the music is very lacking. The levels are great and wonderfully designed, and the VS player is what will make you keep coming back. While the game lacks the MK gore the fact that two highly unlikely worlds collide makes it great enough to play.

Welcome to Banoi, a lush tropical paradise located off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Oh, I forgot to mention one thing, the island is infested with zombies. Dead Island is an open world action role-playing game (RPG). The game takes place on a fictional island off the coast of Papua New Guinea, consisting of weapons that range from paddles, machetes, guns, knives and many more. Guns arrive pretty late in the game, but ranged weapons are not the main focus in Dead Island. The game is mainly focused on melee combat. Melee Weapons in the game break very easily, but you can repair and upgrade them (guns too) at the nearest workbench. You can also create new weapons, and modify current ones using items you fine scattered across the island. You also can sell and buy items that are in your inventory. Another great feature of the game is that it has skill trees, when you level up you will be granted with one skill point which you can use to upgrade certain attributes in either the survival, combat, or fury sections in one of the skill trees. You earn XP by killing zombies, or completing quests. There are different types of zombies, Walkers, infected, thugs, rams, suiciders, butchers and floaters. Each "breed" of zombies has it's own attributes, for example the infected are fast, and the suiciders will explode when you get to close. The butchers and floaters arrive a little later in the game. The game also consists of 3 areas, these areas are, the Resort, the City, and the Jungle. Each area has a different "feel" to it. The very first area you start out in is the Resort. Each of the three areas in the game are relatively large, but the Jungle is the largest one out of the three by far. The game also has it's flaws, the game does have some graphical issues. For example, when you move to another area, the scenery takes about 20-30 seconds to settle. As well as the scenery, when you equip another weapon, (especially a firearm) it will look a little diluted, but will only take about 3 seconds for it to pass. The game also has an option of co-op play. An icon will appear on the right side of the screen informing you what player is nearby. You can join their game, or they can can join yours with a press of a button, with no loss of progress. You can have up to four players fight alongside you in co-op. There are also vehicles in the game (mainly pickup trucks) which can hold up to four players. The voice acting in the game is sometimes cheesy, and the game does not really go into depth with the characters story lines, but that does not take away from the fun you will have playing Dead Island. Enjoy your stay at Banoi!

Super Friends Unite

High above the Earth in the great Watchtower of the Justice League, there are assembled the world's seven greatest heroes created from the cosmic legends of the universe - Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, the Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl. Their mission: To fight injustice, to right that which is wrong, and to serve all mankind.
It was planetary pandemonium for animation fans when the creators of "Batman: The Animated Series" unveiled the monster hit series "Justice League" back in 2001. Taking the premise of Hanna-Barbera's classic "Superfriends" [of uniting heroes to fight evil on a global scale as originally done in the comic books] and giving it a 21st century upgrade, the show's producers boldly took the time to flesh out the members of the League, adding a depth to what motivates them as heroes. This was never done with the Justice League of the 60s, 70s & 80s. Justice League featured Emmy-worthy production values in animated storytelling and brilliant thought and care in voice casting. Not to mention a magnificent main title theme by Lolita Ritmanis. Given the show's mature tone, fans were dumbfounded that DVDs of Justice League were only released as single disc "DC Comics Kids Collection" volumes with no more than 3-4 eps instead of season sets. (Note: If you own all of the original JL volumes then you already have Justice League - Season One episodes 1-15, and should consider the remaining 11 episodes plus the exclusive EXTRAS on this set before deciding.)

First, Superman and Batman "Public Enemies" was in my opinion a very good story and an excellent movie that was very fast paced and also very entertaining. The animation on this is fantastic, the voice talents are excellent as well. But even better than "Public Enemies", is "Apocalypse." I bought this on blu ray and this is one of my favorite movies, not just animated but any movie. Awesome story, lots of action and excitement and really shows Batman and Superman working as a great team. Supergirl makes her debut in this story and gives you a good look at her super powers and how she could be a force for good or evil. Without giving away any story details, I will just say, if you are a Superman, Batman, or just a comic fan, I have a feeling you will love this movie and will not regret owning this dvd. Well worth the money and the time to watch again and again.

DC Knocks Out Another Hit

Season 1 of Justice League helped kicked things off. However, it's the 2nd season where things really shine. Season 2 went on and improved the show's animation, added on excellent subplots that carry on such as a growing relationship between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl, and increased eye-candy such as numerous guest appearances from characters from both the Superman and Batman toons, from supporting characters like Lois Lane, Ma and Pa Kent, and Alfred Pennyworth to classic villains like Lexington, Brain, The Parasite, The Joker, and Clay face. New villains arrive as well, such as Eclipse, Dr. Destiny, Dispair, and even Doomsday, the monster that became infamous for killing Superman in the comics.
The quality of the stories increased as well. It starts off with Twilight, as the Justice League faces Darkseid and Brainiac(Ron Perlman and Corey Burton reprising their roles from the Superman cartoon).
In the center we have highlights such as Hereafter, in which the Justice League deals with the possibility that Superman is dead. Superman, however, is trapped in an apocolyptic future, with a former enemy now his only friend, ally, and hope of getting home.
A Better World is a 2-parter that helped set up the main storyline of the 4th season. It features the Justice League battling evil, alternate dimension versions of themselves, led by a ruthless dictator version of Superman you will love to hate. However the true highlight of the episode is an intense psychological faceoff between the two Batmen.
Wild Cards features the League facing off against the Joker in Vegas in a hilarious reality TV show homage, as they try to disarm bombs he's planted while also fighting off his henchmen, the Wild Flush Gang, who in a clever touch happen to be voiced by the main cast of Teen Titans. It ends with hands down the best Batman/Joker battle ever, even putting ones seen in the comics to shame.
It all ends with the 3-part smash bang finale, Starcrossed, which end with an alien invasion(only fitting since that's what got them together) and a shattering betrayal between one of the League's members.
Since the debut of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, the WB's series of superhero shows that have since been known as the DCAU have continued to prove that animation can be intelligent, thought-provoking, and enjoyable for kids AND adults. Justice League season 2(which is released on the same day is Superman vol. 3!) is no different. A definite must buy.

If there ever was an anime series that will leave you saying "that was outstanding," this is it.
There are so many components to this story that make it so.
The artwork is gorgeous; the backdrops themselves seem to be characters in the story.
The music, which is a mash-up of house, hip-hop, blues and jazz, adds so much depth to each episode that you may feel compelled to buy one of the series' four soundtracks just as I did.
And then, there's the story itself: two rogue warriors - one who can barely control his emotions [Mugen] and another who is nearly emotionless -- the cipher (seemingly) without a soul [Jin] -- attempt to help a befuddled teenage girl [Fu] in her quest to find the "samurai who smells like sunflowers."
Yes, similar stories have been told in many different formats for generations, but this version seems so fresh. During the 26 episode arc, you will find yourself caring about the main characters and trying to understand why it's so important for each of them to complete this ill-defined (and potentially hopeless) journey to find the samurai.
At the end of the series, you will already miss these wonderful characters. (Years after viewing the entire series, there are still episodes I will watch from time-to-time for that very reason.)
Like its futuristic companion, Cowboy Beebop, this is Anime with brass knuckles and a heart ...
In its quiet and quirky way, it's breathtakingly cool.

What else is there to say?
Alongside the Justice League animated series, Teen Titans is my favorite animated show. The show spends a lot of time dealing wht the characters, making them actual people, and I just love the entire cast:
Robin is stoic and intelligent, a Batman in miniature. His only weakness is his obsession with Slade and his inability to let go and have a little fun.
Raven pretty much defines the term "Goth Girl," but you still can't help falling in love with her just a little bit more every time she's on the screen.
Cyborg and Beast Boy are the heart and soul of the Titans. Always cheerful and ready with the hijinks, I can't figure out which one makes me laugh harder... or which one would scare me more in a fight.
And Starfire... her smile is like sunshine. Her voice like a breath of fresh air. For a girl that can bodyslam a fire truck, she is possibly the sweetest alien you'll ever meet.
If you love superheros, and if you're not a stick in the mud, you will love this show.

This complete collection includes all 33 episodes of the adventure anime series Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, following the brothers Alphonse and Edward Elric as they try to restore what they lost in a misguided attempt to bring back their deceased mother through alchemy - an incident that left half of Edward's body gone, replaced by mechanical prosthetics, and Alphonse's body gone completely, his soul inhabiting a suit of armor. Now, the two must embark on a journey to find the Philosopher's Stone, an artifact with the powers to bring back what they lost. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood follows the same premise as the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime series, but follows the story from the original manga completely.

That's right, this series isn't just one of the best Anime I've seen, it is the epitome of Anime in my mind, and one of the best animated television series I have ever experienced. Okay, so I'm a newbie who just finished the series and is on a bit of a high from the experience but I stand by my statements. Due to a series of random events I actually wound up buying the entire series just a few weeks ago and watching it for the first time. I bought the 5 separate Blu-ray releases that are currently available, it cost me substantially more than this set (about $200 total), but I'm still happy I did it, that's how much I love this series. So if you like this series and don't yet own it on DVD/Blu then you have to buy this repackaged Collection 1 set, in my opinion, there is nothing else to it.
This set includes the first 33 episodes of the series. A nice even breaking point that leaves the remaining 34 episodes on the eventual Collection 2.
As far as the episodes, yeah the first thirteen or so are repeated material for anyone familiar with the first series and they feel arguably compacted as such, but any arguments about the series quality disappears by episode 14 and onward where the series departs from the first anime and plays true to the original manga.
I highly recommend this series on Blu-ray over DVD, it's not the best blu-ray picture you will ever see but this is among the most unique and beautiful anime animation I've seen and I wouldn't want to risk missing any detail of it if I didn't have to. Towards the end of the series some of the battles are evocative of the best work of Miyazaki. The streamlined and simplified animation style seems to suddenly break free during some battles and they really do some artistically masterful things that would normally be reserved for feature films.
I realize I'm mostly preaching to the choir for most people who will see this review but I honestly can't recommend this series enough to newer fans of anime who may have not seen it. In fact, I recommend it not only for fans of anime but also for fans of animation in general, fans of adventure, fans of epics, fans of anime, fans of good storytelling. People talk about Harry Potter and James Camerion's Avatar or those types of things as being immersive worlds, well FMA Brotherhood is not only an immersive experience but one with a substantially more well constructed story than those aforementioned stories and a perfectly satisfying ending. Those who have seen the series knew how great it was long before I did, but I've been converted and having now viewed this show, I know it will be a while before I have such a fulfilling and rewarding viewing experience again anytime soon. They just don't tell stories with this attention to detail that often.
With the new more affordable price this set offers, fans who have been holding out will no doubt now see this $60 retail price as much better than an equivalent exchange for all they're getting. If you buy this set then I'd say according to equivalent exchange you'll still owe much more than that.
