The magnet is surprising strong. I have had zero issues with this mount. My only gripe is that it is only compatible with your phone and no one else's. If you share the vehicle you would need to use multiple magnets on each others phones for it to work with more than just yours. The mount only works with the magnetic strips you attach (permanently) to the phone case.

looking for an overhead install for a projector.

I dont see why not. Just open the casing and pop a screw through to the ceiling. Place your wire and close it up.

What do you do to provide slack in the cord for a swivel mount tv?
Leave excess cord behind the TV for movement. It won't fit into the cord cover.
