I waited months for this device after first seeing it at the CES show. Let me just say one thing - WOW. I'm not sure why the other reviewers had issues, but I can say without a doubt this router ROCKS! I'm guessing the other reviewers had it plugged into another device, or were having internet issues. I have a 150Mbps plan and my speed tests are consistently in the 120-140Mbps which is actually faster than using my old Dlink router.
Setup took me less than 5 minutes. It is by far the EASIEST setup I have ever seen with a router.
As for protection, in the first two days, I had 2 website threats caught and had a test internet camera quarantined (I purposely used an outdated Dlink camera with an old firmware that was known to have vulnerabilities). I did this to test the claims of protecting your network against household devices that are infected/vulnerable or acting in s suspicious manner.
The bonus for me was the extra protection that the subscription offers for all my other devices - laptops, tablets, phones...everything is included in the subscription.
It's about time a company stepped up with a device like this. Well done Symantec (Norton) for producing such an awesome product.
You will not be disappointed in this product.

Will be changing from Cable to Fiber Optics will the Norton Core work with it?

Sure. Your home connections will use WiFi I presume? Fiber is the connection to your home...from there there will likely be a modem/bridge device that the Core would plug into. All home connections would go through the Core, and out to the Fiber connected network.

I already have Norton Security Suite that is complimentary with my XFINITY internet. Will I still need to purchase Norton Core?

These are two different products. Norton core is a router with built-in protection. It's still advisable to have protection on your devices as well. i.e. What if you have a laptop in your home and you travel with it - you will still need protection on the device. The core gives you additional protection for devices that do not, and cannot have protection. For example, there have been many cases where internet enabled devices have been compromised - TVs, cameras, thermostats, etc. This device provides additional protection for these types of devices and threats to your home environment. It's a physical device you plug into your network - not software.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK! this is the AC2500 model for $249 and 1 year subscription..The 2017 Top Review for routers goes to ASUS AC3100 for $269 and no subscription so assuming it will work with any. Antivirus platform What makes this new technology safer?

Simply put, these are two very different devices. The ASUS AC3100 does not offer the same features. For one, it has basic TREND antivirus and some content control. It does not learn your home devices (think Nest thermostat, Dlink cameras, fridges, TV's and many other IoT devices). The performance of the AC3100 drops considerably when you enable the TREND security features by the way...do your homework as you say. The AC3100, while a high performance router, doesn't offer any real home security capabilities besides the included basic antivirus and content control.
Additionally, the AC3100 does not include licenses for other device protection like the Norton Core does with it's subscription. With Core you get additional protection for Notebooks, Desktops and Laptops, Mobile devices, etc. as part of the subscription.
