I used to make fun of the first AppleWatch and question why anyone would truly need one. After talking to tons of AppleWatch owners on why they like theirs, I was convinced to purchasing a Series 1.

I tether my AppleWatch to a iPhone 6s plus, and I love the combo! I'm on my feet a lot and use text messaging often, so I now leave my massive phone at my desk and can roam around about 50 feet away and still send and receive data. I did turn off the automatic "wake" feature to extend battery life to 2+ days with full brightness. Tapping the face of the watch to check time and messages is a small price to pay, considering the increase in battery life.

Given my line of work and lifestyle, I would absolutely purchase another AppleWatch. I opted against the Series 2 because I couldn't justify the price increase for the main features not important to me- GPS and 2x brighter screen. The screen on the Series 1 is plenty bright indoors and I use Garmin cycling products for HR and GPS.
