Decent album from collection of great musicians

Anything by Art of Anarchy is worth a listen based on the outstanding musicians that comprise this supergroup, including Scott Stapp & Bumblefoot. In listening to this album, the songs are good, although not overly complex/unique/lengthy. I am unsure if this album would get much attention if the contributing musicians were not already so well-renowned. I would still recommend the album as a straightforward rock album by solid instrumentalists and a great vocalist, but do not expect a groundbreaking effort. "Echo of a Scream" (the first track) is my personal favorite off the album. The group does put on a very good live performance on a limited touring schedule - highly recommended if they come to your area!

Heavy and intense version of Chevelle

Chevelle has always had a knack for putting out accessible hard rock, and while this album is still accessible to a fan like myself, it may be a bit more than some hard rock listeners would prefer. Other albums, such as "Vena Sera", featured a relative crispness to the instrumentation and vocals. This particular album is jam-packed with heavy, unrelenting, and downright "dirty" guitars/bass along with familiar driving percussion. Lead vocalist Pete leans heavily on screaming vocals on this album, so it you're looking for a great deal of melody, this will not be your best bet. There are occasional lulls in the audio onslaught, but in general Chevelle sticks to the heavy theme. In particular, I highly recommend the single, "Rivers," for its unique latin-build to a heavy middle and end that will have your stereo blasting.

Tremonti does it again!

I found myself slightly disappointed with "Cauterize" in its entirety, although I do think it's still a solid album, but "Dust" hits on all the cylinders originally ignited by "All I Was." Mark's vocals are spot-on to go with the usual top-notch guitar playing; he, of course, has surrounded himself with first-rate band members whom add tremendous vocals and instrumentation. The album starts at a blistering pace, but the title track does a fantastic job of adding that lighter but powerful dimension that makes sure the album does not grow stale. There is not a track on the album worth skipping; highly recommended for initial or new Tremonti fans!

Change can be a good thing?

I do think that this album shows continued creativity and variety from Shinedown. For me, after "Cut the Cord" to start the album with a relative bang, the rest of the album just doesn't have much of an edge to it. The majority of their other albums have always had several "hard hitters" that really necessitate cranking the volume. I do not think that the rest of the album is bad, but just seems to kind of float in a seemingly lighter direction for Shinedown. The lead vocals are still solid as always and I hope that others do enjoy the album. Perhaps this album needs a number of listens to really appreciate it.......

Solid, but slightly disappointing disc

Saint Asonia put out a respectable rock CD for their debut, and there are a number of good hard-rocking tracks, including "Blow Me Wide Open" and "Happy Tragedy"; lighter tracks like "Trying to Catch up with the World" and "Leaving Minnesota" are good contrasting tracks. My reasoning for labeling this as slightly disappointing is that many of the songs are relatively generic and I honestly may have had too high of expectations for a debut from this supergroup. The lyrics especially are extremely bland in some songs, especially "Dying Slowly." I still look forward to these gentlemen refining their sound as time goes by and I would HIGHLY recommend seeing them perform live; as for this disc, expect a good, basic rock sound, but do not necessarily expect it to stand out distinctly from many others in the genre.

Hard to follow "All I Was"

Make no mistake, Tremonti's newest album, "Cauterize," is very solid in my opinion. The first three tracks on the album particularly have great momentum, including "Flying Monkeys," which has an altered tempo that works for me before slamming into a final drive of guitar & percussion. "Another Heart" is the first single that was a known winner for me with Mark's signature vocals on top of great instrumentation. Garrett Whitlock's drumming is upbeat & explosive throughout the album. My reason for giving this only 4 stars would be that the middle & latter part of the album seemed a little bit redundant to me - I was having a more difficult time differentiating clearly between the songs. That being said, I also thought that the bar had been set extremely high by "All I Was," the group's first album released about three years ago. In a nutshell, the vocals, guitar work (of course!) and all other instrumentation are very strong - the bonus live tracks from four of the first album's songs was a nice blast from the recent past.

Decent but not spectacular debut with new singer

For someone whom has never listened to Three Days Grace before, this will probably come across as a decent, albeit run-of-the-mill rock album - for someone more familiar with the band's previous recordings, I could see this album being a disappointment. Adam Gontier was a hard vocalist to replace given the many hits that the band plastered the airwaves with during his tenure - though Matt Walst is a serviceable singer, the fit just seems off. The lead singles "Painkiller" and "I Am Machine" are okay tracks, and the latest single "Human Race" has a little bit different atmosphere to it that has grown on me, although I could see it being a major flop in the eyes of those previous TDG fans. The rest of the album just doesn't feel very memorable - I find myself usually wanting to listen to a new album several consecutive times to discover little nuances that I originally missed, but my first listen did not do much to motivate me toward that purpose. I applaud the band for moving forward and I hope that they continue to find success - although I am not sorry I bought the album because I was very curious about their sound with Walst, I can't say that I would heartily recommend this album with so many other options out there on the rock circuit.

Another good album from a unique band

For fans of Skindred's proven style, this album has some great songs on par with past efforts. Prime examples include: "Kill the Power," "World's on Fire," and my personal favorite, "Ninja." The overall rhythm from songs like these makes it hard not to nod your head and just go with the music. There is a danger with their style in that some of their songs that are truly built around their signature sound can sound too much alike, and their attempts to vary that sound, such as "Playing with the Devil" and "We Live," fall flat for me. Though it's not always true, a lot of their "toned-down " songs just don't have the same inspiring effect. So while I do skip some of the tracks on this album, I still find myself coming back to it because of the strength of the standout tracks.

What's great about it: Heavy rockers with signature rapping
What's not so great: Slower songs that feel forced and out of place
