Yes, it is. It has two slots for RAM. Mine shipped with one slot with 4GB and one slot empty. It can take a total of 16GB in a 2 x 8GB configuration.

Not Ideally. The Air 2 is thinner and they moved a microphone from the upper middle rear on the Air 1 to a spot next to the camera on the Air 2.
