Absolutely love Bond series and since Connery everyone else, EVERYONE, sucked. At least until Daniel Craig. He's believable as the character, simply put.

The Matrix came along at just the right time in the history of the DVD format. With its incredible action scenes and futuristic plot, it proved to be a tremendous boost for sales of DVD players and proof of the power of DVD to present a movie accurately. The 2.35:1 widescreen presentation is a crystal clear translation of the movie's dark imagery. While there may be a lack of resolution in background images, the stylish visuals in the foreground draw all of the attention, along with the powerful, seat-rocking sound effects of Dolby Digital mix. Special features are mildly entertaining. The cast/crew commentary is by Carrie-Anne Moss, visual effects supervisor John Gaeta, and editor Zach Staeberg, and often leans toward the technical side of the production. The music-only "Audio Track" is for fans of the soundtrack only, and the making-of documentary is 25 minutes of hyperbole. "Taking the red pill" leads to a six-minute overview of the technical sides of "bullet-time," a special-effect element found in the film. The "Follow the White Rabbit" feature brings a rabbit icon to the screen during scenes of heavy special effects; hitting "enter" leads to behind-the-scenes footage of the scene in question and then places viewers back into the scene of the movie. Filmographies of cast and crew are also present. Instant access to all of the DVD's 38 chapters is available via the "Scene Access" menu, making this disc an entirely successful presentation of a fun film.

The effects of ET were excellent, but, there was an element of cheesiness that is hard to explain. Maybe the overall unbelievableness of it. I still liked it a lot.

Phillip Noyce's 1994 action thriller Clear and Present Danger comes to DVD in a widescreen special collector's edition from Paramount. The English soundtrack is offered in a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround mix and a DTS mix. A French-dubbed stereo soundtrack is also included. Optional subtitles come in English and Spanish. Special features include the featurette "Behind the Danger," along with cast and crew interviews and theatrical trailers. This disc is a slight improvement on the previous Paramount releases.

Steven Spielberg's ambitious screen adaptation of J.G. Ballard's novel about a young boy who finds himself in a Japanese prison camp during WWII gets an appropriately glossy treatment on DVD. The film has been given a letterboxed transfer of 1.85:1 aspect ratio (the transfer has also been enhanced for widescreen monitors), and viewers have a choice of the original soundtrack in Dolby Digital Stereo or a new mix in Dolby Digital 5.1 (there's also an alternate French-language soundtrack in Dolby Digital Stereo). The film has been subtitled in no fewer than eight languages -- English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai -- and the film's original theatrical trailer has been included, as well as a bonus behind-the-scenes documentary, "The China Odyssey: Empire of the Sun, A Film by Steven Spielberg."

The brief but eventful life of actor and martial arts trailblazer Bruce Lee is portrayed in this drama, based on a biography written by his widow Linda Lee Caldwell. Lee is introduced to the study of martial arts as a child living in Hong Kong by his father (Ric Young); the father dreamed that a demonic armored dragon would take his son from him, and wanted young Bruce to be able to protect himself. Bruce continues his training as he grows to adulthood, and after the cocky teenaged Lee (Jason Scott Lee, no relation to Bruce) seriously injures a prominent British citizen while fighting a gang of troublemakers at a dance, he's sent to San Francisco. While working as a dishwasher, Bruce begins to study philosophy, and in time develops a personal martial arts discipline, Jeet Kune-Do, which blends Kung Fu fighting techniques with lessons gained from his philosophical research. Bruce decides to open a martial arts academy on the advice of his fiancée Linda (Lauren Holly); Linda and Bruce encounter resistance as a mixed-race couple, especially from Linda's mother Vivian (Michael Learned), and Bruce earns the enmity of traditional Chinese martial arts experts for his new style. But after a strong showing in several public tournaments, Bruce's fighting skill and charisma attracts the attention of TV producer Bill Krieger (Robert Wagner). Bruce is cast as Kato, the karate-trained sidekick on the series The Green Hornet, and while the show is short-lived in America, it's a huge success in Asia, leading to a series of films based around Bruce's remarkable fighting skills. Sadly, shortly before the release of the film that would make him a major screen star in the United States, Enter The Dragon, a mysterious brain disorder sends Lee into a coma that soon kills him. In a tragedy with eerie timing, Bruce Lee's real-life son Brandon Lee died shortly before this film was released, the result of an accidental shooting while completing the picture The Crow.
