Over-priced and underwhelming

This was to be my "forever" laptop (forever being 2-3 years) and I paid a little over a grand for it ("certified by geek squad" which I'm starting to think are maybe a bunch of pre-school kids who use these computers as drums or hopscotch squares). After hiring a third party construction company who moved the laptop from my car up to the second floor...kidding but wow, this thing is heavy and big), I opened the box and fired it up. The first thing I notice was it seemed top-heavy and really bounced around when I used the keyboard. The screen was great but everything else didn't seem to justify the price. It was slow, build quality on the one I got seemed lackluster and the battery life seemed reminiscent of the family Gateway laptop we still own. I returned it and have no regret, no tossing and turning wondering if I made the right decision, or any longing when I've seen it displayed at the local Best Buy.

I can only echo all the other great reviews as this is a very nice soundbar/speaier, as well as "hub" if you happen to have the smaller Sony H.ear Go speakers. The surround sound, when two h.ear go speakers are added, truly is surround sound and gives a better performance than systems triple the price.
Now this soundbar isn't perect...the wireless wifi is a little weak and does drop out every now and then. But at this price, it doesn't seem to bother me...and please note, this unit DOES have wifi (best buy has it listed as only having Bluetooth. It has both.

these seem to be pretty bullet-proof, and the magician and data migration software are a nice bonus...I'm not so sure about the Rapid Mode setting (did not seem to make a real world difference but it did give me an artificially high sense of self when I saw the artificially high read/write scores).

This is an interesting BT item. I have a Tile (great but the retile portion is a little upsetting). Also have two TrackRs (sadly, these don't seem to be able to track like Tile). I'm not sure how to review these, studies are sparse and I think these are made to make us feel like we are taking better care of our teeth when in actuality they do very little but provide a false sense of security when it comes times to see the dentist...either way, I had the sonicare air floss before (it fell victim to a fall on the bathroom floor), so, feeling thrifty, I decided to try out this model. It doesn't feel as strong to me. Therefore, doesn't seem as effective.

The specs on this looked great but I'm not sure if the I7 is too powerful or I got a bad model but mine was toasty hot...I'm talking I could not keep it on my lap. At one point I put it on the floor for a few minutes and picked it back up and I thought it was going to melt.

I have two of the h.ear go speakers, which I like (although I would love if they had airplay), so I figured I would bite the bullet and get the X5 to provide a base unit so to speak for the two hgos. Unfortunetly, the X5 just isn't that much stronger in terms of sound or versatility.
Having had the X7,
X77, and the classic RDP-XA700 (the sound from that was beautiful), I guess I just had higher expectations.
And the songpal app is a nightmare, its doable, but is the worst interface I have ever used.

A rocky start

The first one I got had very pronounced screen bleeding at start up (which I could live with but the trackpad had some major issues and the fingerprint reader worked about 5% of the time). I exchanged it for another one which asked me for a windows product key when I turned it on (it also did not have the option of doing a clean install in the restore section). I ran the sfc.exe /scannow (please do this for every new computer you purchase), and it came back okay.
Anyway, after doing a clean install in a round about way, and upgrading the RAM to 12GB plus adding an SSD drive, this laptop is "da bomb" (not sure what the slang equivalent is these days)

Can you add rear speakers to this system? Thanks.
Yes, the small multi-colored H.ear Go are easily added. I think the xr7 would also work but they do not have a battery so placement can be limiting.

Does this work with in a MacBook Pro mid-2012?
it works, but not as fast as in a PC. Now, I found if you can get another SSD (any type, and you can even borrow one as you will only need it for about an hour) and use one of the HD clone programs (CC Cloner, etc.), the magic seems to be to clone your old HD to another SSD, thennnn, clone that SSD to your new (or whichever is the better SSD of the two) SSD, and then you can really see the SSD working in the IOS environment.

Is there proprietary software with this drive? My normal hard drive crashed, took all the software with it, now I have a SSD EVO850 250GB model MZ-74E250B, installed with no software.,
I'm not sure about your question but I'll give it a try...it does come with Samsung Magician and Data Migration (which works only you are transferring your old drive to a new Samsung ssd)...but it will only copy from a functioning hard drive (I think). You might have to try one of the partition programs which claim to be able to rescue data that has been erased and/or damaged). They have never worked for me so try out the freeware titles before spending your money on anything.
