Simply put if you care about having your device connected you don't even have an option of using anything else. I purchased it to connect my Pro DJ gear to my iPhone/iPad's. I can now use my Pioneer CDJ-2000Nexus along with DDJ-SX/SZ to my iPhone............... pretty extreme!!
Works great though. Along with a powered USB hub this is a necessity in my life. Once again aftermarket is not an option here as the connection is not as snug which could be disastrous.

Got it for $150 via Best Buy and I can say money WELL spent. The Dre Beats headphones are garbage. This is a fact. Go for seinheiser, sony, etc.
In regard to the portable bluetooth speakers though this is on point. The sound is better than HDMX Jams and the equivalent sized HDMX options. For its size you can not beat four active speakers. You also have the option to connect an additional pill and use their propitiatory "surround" technology or simply connect any additional portable (or non portable) audio device for more speakers or to record etc.

When the battery runs dead, can the unit still work under charge or does the battery have to be charged before it begins working again? My concern is that once the lithium battery wears out (most only last 2 years) can I still use the unit while plugged in? Does the charger supply enough power to power the unit
It works fine while being charged even from absolute dead. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if it can work without the battery at all while plugged in.
