Keyless smart lock with added features

Yale Assure Lock 2 is a key-free smart lock with plenty of features that is easy to install and provides security with convenience. The installation was a breeze while the packaging was neatly done and included the smart lock and deadbolt, Wi-Fi smart module, DoorSense hardware, mounting hardware, 4 AA batteries and instruction manual. The lock is a Grade 2 certified device, which is the residential security industry standard. There is no physical key included with this lock, nor can you use one to operate it.
To use the remote features, you will need to insert the included Wi-Fi module into the lock and install Yale Access app. The app is your key to control the lock, customize the settings, share access with guests as well as real-time notifications. You also get 24x7 access to any activity from the lock and see who accessed when. The lock is compatible with a wide range of smart home hubs like Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc. You can also use your Apple Watch to unlock the door, which comes in handy when your hands are full carrying things.
The lock operates using the 4 AA batteries. According to Yale, the battery should last a few months of use. You can't check the status of the battery on the app. The lock itself will alert when the batteries are low and that is the only way to know. In case the batteries die, and you get locked out, you will need a 9V battery to connect at the bottom of the lock temporarily and unlock the door. I really wish there were some other way to unlock.
The auto lock feature is handy. You do not need to worry about locking the door as soon as you close it. The Passage button on the interior side of the lock activates the passage mode where you can go in and out multiple times without the door auto locking when you close the door. For this to work, you will need to install the included DoorSense components following the provided instructions.
Overall, if you are in the market to upgrade or replace your locks with a smart lock loaded with features, Yale Assure Lock 2 is something to be considered.

Smart home speaker with retro design

JBL Authentics 200 is a Smart Home Speaker that integrates both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant simultaneously in one device. The unit has a classic retro design that blends in any room. On top of the speaker, you have physical buttons to control the volume, play or pause, adjust Treble and Bass. You also have the Bluetooth button to connect to a device and a favorite button. The JBL One app lets you connect the speaker to Wi-Fi as well as customize settings.
The speaker has aux input as well as USB C port for wired connections. I do like the microphone button on the back which can be used to turn off the mic for Alexa or Google assistant. The speaker also supports multi room play via Alexa or Google Home. This definitely comes in handy if you want to play the same music across all rooms. Although there is no Siri support, I like the Airplay option to support all Apple devices. The favorite button lets you play your playlist or other customized moments that you set up in the app.
Another neat feature is the automatic self-tuning. Anytime you power up your speaker, it will calibrate the audio settings for any location. The sound quality from the speakers is clear and surprisingly good. This is a great smart home speaker if you are in the market for a portable speaker with added functionality.

Drink station with plenty of customizations

Ninja Thirsti Drink System is a versatile carbonated drink creation machine. With the press of a button, you can make custom carbonated beverages. The unit comes with the drink maker, 48oz water reservoir, eight packs of flavored water drops, and a 60L CO2 cylinder. The packaging is neat, and setup is a breeze. You need to connect the CO2 canister by twisting it and install the flavor cartridges. The removable water reservoir can be stored in the fridge until you are ready, or you can add water and ice and the cold-water indicator at the bottom of the reservoir turns blue when the water is cold enough to be carbonated.
The difference with this machine is that it infuses the flavors as it carbonates the water unlike other systems where you will add the flavor after the water is carbonated. You can customize how much flavor you want in your drink and if you want it double flavor or keep it to one flavor. The flavor cartridges are easy to swap out. There are plenty of flavor options to make your carbonated water a vitamin drink or caffeinated energy drink, or even an electrolyte hydration drink. Right now, you can only buy additional flavor packs from Ninja's website directly, hoping local stores start carrying them soon.
There are three levels of fizz that can be selected for your sparkling drink. I tried all three, but the lowest setting tasted good for my liking. The included CO2 cylinder is supposed to make around one hundred drinks on a low fizz setting. You can get refills or additional cylinders directly from Ninja's website, as that is the only available option now. They also offer a subscription service for CO2 refills. I hope local stores might carry the refill cylinders for a quick swap soon.
If you do not want any flavored fizz drink, this system can still make unflavored sparkling water. Alternatively, you can get still water without any fizz with your favorite flavor mixes added in. I really like this flexibility so I can use this drink system to mix up my drinking options. Another cool feature I really like is the ability to use your own glass instead of the need for special bottles to make the drinks. Keep in mind, this is a countertop portable machine that needs a power source to operate, unlike other machines on the market.
Overall, I really like my Thristi Drink System and will be using it more often to make a variety of fizz drinks for myself as well as for guests. If you are looking for a customizable fizz drink maker, this is a cost-effective addition to your kitchen space.

Compact mouse with great features

Logitech Pebble 2 M350s is a compact mouse with simple and minimalistic design. It comes in an easy to open package and a quick setup to start using with your device. The mouse is slim and feels so light in my hands. Easy to store and carry anywhere without worrying about the size or weight. This is an ambidextrous mouse, meaning you can use it with both hands comfortably. Another pleasant thing about this mouse is that it is made with recycled plastic.
The mouse goes into pairing mode as soon as you remove the battery tab. And my PC was quick to detect this and connect right away without any issues. You can download the Logi Options+ app if you want to customize the middle button or any other personalization settings. I really like the Silent Touch technology it comes with which does not produce any click noise. I also like the multi device pairing feature to use this across other devices seamlessly. It uses Bluetooth to connect but is also compatible with your existing Logi Bolt USB receiver. Having a 2-year battery life is a nice addition.
If you are in the market for a new mouse for home and travel, use with multiple device connections, do give this portable mouse a try and you will be surprised how comfortable and easy to use this one is.

Simple and reliable security system

The Night Owl 10 Channel 6 Camera Wireless 2K 1TB NVR Security System is an excellent and easy to setup security system. The system comes with a 1TB Wi-Fi NVR with antennas, NVR power adapter, ethernet cable, USB mouse, six 2K spotlight cameras with six 9ft camera power adapters, and mounting hardware. All the accessories are packed securely in the box. The cameras are capable of motion and people detection, audio alerts, spotlight with 24x7 recordings, and microSD slot for local backup. The camera is outdoor weather resistant and connects wirelessly to the NVR via an independent wireless network without the need for an internet connection. The only wired connection to the camera is the power cable from a wall outlet.
The entire setup can be done on the Night Owl Protect app using the Bluetooth connection without the need for a monitor or a TV. The app also gives you the ability to customize the camera settings, notification alerts, control spotlight and siren, record voice messages, and view live as well as recorded footage. You still have the option to use a TV or a monitor if you want to go that route. The NVR has 10 channels, which means the system can handle an additional 4 cameras if you want to expand.
There are no fees or subscription needed for any of the monitoring. Plus, you can set up these cameras for indoor as well as outdoor use. Once you pair the camera with the NVR, you can then mount it anywhere within the range. I am surprised by the quality of the videos during daytime or night even from the farthest camera mounted from the NVR. The only thing I would change is for the cameras to be powered by solar panels so they could be completely wireless. If you are looking for a one system without wires to run every part of your home and are willing to expand with additional cameras in the future, you cannot go wrong with this one.

Turning old shades into smart ones

Ryse SmartShade is a motorized device that converts your existing window shades into an app controlled wireless smart shade. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack that powers the SmartShade for extended usage (up to 6 months according to Ryse). The package includes SmartShade, mounting brackets with screws and anchors, battery pack with a charging cable. The setup is easy and step by step installation is guided via the RYSE app. The unit is compatible with plastic or metal beaded chain that comes with your shades.
The device is controlled via the control panel that is on the front side of the unit as well as on the App. There is no Wi-Fi on the device, which means you can only connect to the app via Bluetooth. To use remote or voice control of the shades, you will need to get the Ryse SmartBridge hub, which is not included with this bundle. The hub allows you to control up to ten shades as well as set up automation and integrate with smart home setup.
The motor itself is powerful and quiet when operating. It feels like it can lift heavy shades with ease. Make sure to charge your battery fully before setting up the shades. The battery is charged via a micro-USB cable. If you are looking to automate your existing window shades with easy-to-use controls, do look into this.

Powerful vacuum cleaner for quality cleaning

Dyson Gen5 Detect is the latest and most powerful cordless vacuum. I have been using the Dyson Outsize as my go to vacuum cleaner and Gen5 is no doubt an upgrade with all the features and functionality it comes with. The entire package is well made and remarkably easy to unbox and set up. Everything is cardboard, which means fully recyclable. In the box you will find the vacuum cleaner, the Fluffy Optic cleaner head, Digital Motorbar cleaner head, hair screw tool, wand with built-in crevice tool, combination tool, docking station and the charger.
One of the biggest differences you will notice is the placement of the power button. You no longer have to hold the trigger when vacuuming. There is a traditional power button at the top of the vacuum cleaner that you use to turn it on and off. This might take some time to get adjusted to, if you are used to the trigger, but it is a welcome sign for most. Make sure you charge your battery fully before using it. It can take up to 4-5 hours to fully charge (0% to 100%) depending on how much charge you have when unboxed. Keep in mind, the battery on this is not interchangeable with previous models.
The powerful motor provides incredibly good suction power for all your cleaning needs. I use it mostly in Auto mode so it can change according to the floor I am cleaning. I was able to vacuum the entire house on one full battery charge, which lasted around an hour. The more you use on carpet or Boost mode, you will get less run time. The LCD display is useful in showing the remaining battery percentage as well as how much dust has been collected after each clean. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head has Laser light placed which highlights the dirt and dust that is normally not visible. The light is bright enough to be able to see in a well-lit room. Just remember, you can't turn it off. The Digital Motorbar is handy in removing hairs while also helping in detangling the hair when cleaning.
I really like the wand that comes with this vacuum. It has a built-in crevice tool. What it means is that if you remove any of the attached tool, it instantly converts to a handheld vacuum without the needing to stop and go. The docking station is convenient to store the vacuum cleaner and charge it. If you have the floor standing dock, the Gen5 Detect is not compatible with it. Another feature I like is the washable filters. This means no need for an additional cost to replace the filters at a regular interval.
Cleaning the vacuum cleaner is effortless. You can empty out the bin directly into garbage with just a push of a button. Consider the Gen5 Detect if you are looking to upgrade your existing stick vacuum or want a powerful vacuum cleaner with all the improvements.

Powerful handheld gaming device

ASUS ROG Ally is an amazing handheld gaming device. The device in white casing is sleek and lightweight and extremely comfortable to hold. The Ally is powered by AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It comes with a 512GB NVMe PCIe 4 M.2 SSD that is fast and can store plenty of games. You can also upgrade the storage with an M.2 2230 SSD and UHS-II MicroSD card. It comes with a gorgeous 7" 1080p display that supports 120hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync technology. The package comes with a power adapter, warranty manual and a plastic stand to hold Ally for handsfree use.
The setup is simple and straightforward. Since this run on Windows 11, you would follow the same steps as a normal Windows PC setup process. Make sure you complete all the available BIOS and Windows updates before you start using it. The Ally is powered by a 65W USB C power adapter. It supports fast charging from 0% to 50% in 30 minutes. A fully charged Ally provided me with around 90 minutes of play time for heavy gaming. You can extend this by lowering your settings. If you are using it for video playback, expect to get around 6 hours of usage. I do like the built-in fingerprint sensor on the power button that supports Windows Hello for quick login.
Ally supports network connectivity via Wi-Fi 6. It also comes with Bluetooth adapter to connect to audio devices and external controllers. I really like the wireless display option so you can connect it to your smart TV. If you like a wired connection, you can buy the ROG Gaming Charger Dock that powers Ally as well as connects to an external monitor via the built-in HDMI port. The audio on the handheld device is quite amazing. The dual speakers provide an immersive stereo sound and support Dolby Atmos. At 50% volume, I can say the audio was loud yet there was no distortion.
Being built on Windows 11 means you can play any PC game that is available. You can install games from Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic, GOG, etc. I really like using Armoury Crate, Asus's game management system. It provides a seamless experience to launch any game from any library. You can also use it to adjust game settings, remap controls, customize the buttons, etc. Overall, this is a powerful and feature rich handheld device for gaming on the go.

Amazing heavy duty outdoor TV mount

Sanus Premium Outdoor Tilt Mount is a sturdy and well-made outdoor TV mount. It is made with stainless steel hardware with corrosion resistant coating. I have used multiple Sanus TV mounts, and this is no exception, it is extremely easy to install and comes in a stylish design. The mount profile is sleek and slim, it sits almost flush to the wall when you mount the TV, so barely have any room between the TV and the wall.
Once I decided where to mount this, using the wall plate template made it much easier to drill holes and screw in the bolts. All the necessary parts needed to mount this TV are included in the box. Although it is easy to do it yourself, I recommend having a helper with the setup and mounting the TV. Make sure your TV fits and is under the suggested weight. This is not a full motion mount, meaning you can't pull or swivel, it can tilt up and down.
I really like the level and tilt adjustment after you install the mount. There is also an option to use a padlock for security. Overall, this is a strong mount with excellent quality for your outdoor mounting solution.

Nextgen Performance Router with Robust Features

This is one of the newest routers from TP-Link with the latest generation Wi-Fi 7 technology. The design is sleek and blends with other devices on the TV console or on a side table. This is no small router compared to a traditional one, you might even mistake it for a gaming console. The router supports Tri-bands of 2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz, and 6 Ghz with combined speeds of up to 19 Gbps. The setup was easy, you can use the Tether app or do it via the web interface. Both options provide you with all the customization to manage your network settings. First things first, make sure you update the firmware settings before you start with your setup.
The router comes with two 10 Gbps and four 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports. This helps with getting the maximum speed from your service provider on your connection and supports Multi-Link Operation. After setting this router, I connected all my devices to this router to test the speed and was pleasantly surprised to see an overall boost throughout the house, even at far end corners. If you have Wi-Fi 6E devices, then you will see the difference in connection speeds with this router. There are eight antennas placed inside the case that provide high coverage. This router also supports whole home mesh Wi-Fi setup with compatible EasyMesh devices.
There is an LED screen on the face of the router along with three physical buttons. The LED displays the router status as well as weather, date, time, text, or emojis. You have the option to set schedules when you want the LED to display these. But if it is an annoyance to you, you will appreciate the option of completely turning off the LED screen. There are two features I really like in this router. First, having the VPN connection and an ordinary internet connection run at the same time without using any external software. Second is the option to set up a dedicated Wi-Fi network for all your IoT devices, enhancing the security.
This is a premium and powerful router from TP-Link with plenty of features that is geared towards future technology while keeping the backwards compatibility.

what does the IR camera do? Does it come with windows Hello or does it come with that capability?
The IR camera is used solely for the Windows Hello feature. There is another front camera that you can use it for your video chatting and other applications.

can I add ram to a surface pro 4 that only has 4gigs
You cannot add any RAM to the Surface pro 4. You have to remove the back casing in order to do so and by doing that, you will be voiding the warranty. If you are looking for an everyday device with not so heavy applications, 4GB is sufficient. If you planning to run heavy applications/games, then I would recommend the 8GB model.
