Not much man, once you lose the receive you're out of luck .In the old days you could reprogram another transmitter to work with your device but not any more. You can always contact the manufacturer and maybe you'll get a coupon for another but generally you lose the transmitter your mouse is a paper weight.

Yes it will work with most any PC or mac with a free USB port. I've used it on Win8, 10, 7, and XP machines no problemo.

What battery life should I expect if I'm reading? What about web browsing?
I guess it would depend on how bright you had the screen up but I would say if you're just reading plain text you should easily be able to get 16 hours of battery life depending on how much background stuff you have running.
