Nevermind the actual 7th dragon psp game, this is its sequel and.. it shows. I'm assuming the studio is small and doesn't have the budget to do 3D and the models are psp quality, which isn't nonsensical to say considering the original 3ds came out in 2011 and has similar specs to the psp. The problem is that it's 2016 and the lack of the studio's budget shows after multiple games on different hardware over the years.
Enough with my graphical critique though.
The game is a dungeon crawler with a barebones post-apocalyptic anime motif.

The classes are very interesting though, the God Hand is a one-man army capable of crippling bosses while buffing themselves and countering enemy attack that also end up buffing them even more.
The Duelist draws cards both selectively and at random to deal elemental damage and create traps for enemies, they even have moves that allow them to deal more damage based on how many cards they used.

The Hacker can hack enemies during or at the start of battle to debuff, attack, or make the enemies attack eachother whilst healing the entire party. They can even hide to avoid damage altogether and counter all attacks made on the party with their own.
The game even allows you to make a backup team that while, you cannot control simultaneous with the first, can buff your team even more when things get tough. They also level up with your main team, so grinding isn't an issue.
Your characters get stronger stats with every level and get skill points to gain and boost new abilities that help make the battles easier.
The primary antagonisst is the titular 7th dragon and his 200+ mini-dragons throughout the course of the games mythical history. Think of them as Etrian Oddyssey's FOEs, only that they die permanently and make the 7th dragon weaker with every defeat.
The game's side quests aren't numerous and they aren't very interesting, bu they help create new facilities in your bases that unlock new features and equipment.
Some of the characters are entertaining like the edgy, try-hard but sympathetic, not-rabbit, rabbit. Most of the cast isn't as entertaining and come off as unoriginal.
In the end, the game wins in the gameplay area, but not much anywhere else.

Number 14 makes its 3D debut and makes it work. The story mode is simplistic enough, placing you into the KOF 14 tournament and letting you choose 3 team members you can fight with per match and every match lets you decide their entrance order beforehand. The game allows you to run through the in-depth tutorial and training mode with all characters while it installs the single player and online modes, which are robust enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the other more recent fighters of this generation.
The story has little hints of personality and motivations here and there for whatever character you choose, but the game assumes you're familiar with one of the other 13 entries anyhow, so there's that. The steelbook is shiny with no embossing. The artbook is giant and full of fantastic wonderment for whoever's into that jazz fusion. The soundtrack is on 3 cds in a foldout case. This isn't a bad deal for fans of KOF.

This game is basically an amalgamation of the entire series of games and all of their features, except the underwater stuff. Capcom hates their fans who enjoyed that. All of the villages we know and love are there Pokke, Yukumo, etc.
The monsters, the felyne companions, multiplayer, and gameplay have returned. The translation hasn't. Killer beetles are now Shiny beetles. Nearly a dozen games in and now this. Forget your localization team Capcom, Text size limitations begone. This game gets points for all of the new stuff like arts and styles, allowing you to: jump on and over any monster to attack them, rewarding your timed dodges with longer invincibility time and the ability to counter right after, or even just wail on the monsters with constantly charged art guages. Though if you want to play the familiar vanilla way you can. The new monsters are as hilarious as they are deadly and are a blast to fight solo or multi.
The DLC is super fun and sets one of the best examples for free dlc any game should have.
This game is chockful of content and I love it.
