Great Movie but Not Historically Accurate

Despite the fact that this film is not entirely historically accurate and could have been a little longer if it was, the cinematography was excellent as well as the Blu-Ray extras. One of the extra features on this Blu-Ray explains some of the inaccurate parts, but there were more. Overall it was worth a look.

Combat! was a one-hour WWII television drama series which followed a frontline American infantry squad as they battled their way across Europe. Although there are plenty of realistic action scenes, the show did not glorify war. It mainly focused on how the members of the squad dealt with the war while striving to maintain their own humanity. The show offered great character studies of men, on both sides, in the midst of a world torn by war. It also had numerous guest stars playing parts on both sides such as Robert Duvall, Telly Savalas, Lee Marvin, and James Caan just to name a few of the many.

More for history buffs than action fans

This film is loosely based on the non-fiction book, "The Monuments Men", by Robert M. Edsel. It brings to light a part of history, which most likely, not many have ever heard about. But a TV series might have been a better vehicle for the "monuments men" stories than a feature film. The film is episodic and poorly structured and its good intentions are hampered by its lack of pace, direction, tone and properly fleshed-out characters.
I would still recommend seeing the film - if for no other reason than to learn a little more history than you thought you knew.

The second in a trilogy of films - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and the Dwarves, on a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. The visual effects are much improved, the pace is seamless, and the danger is ever more present. The special features were not as expansive as on the first - but still enjoyable and enlightning.

This movie is much more than a film - it's an experience that is both physical and emotional - unlike anything I have ever seen before. It is best watched with the house lights turned down very low or completely off so that all you see is the screen of your TV. It will give you a sense of how beautiful and possibly dangerous it can be to live and work in space. The physical part will come when you find yourself hanging on to your seat for dear life and the emotional part - well - you'll experience that too.
This Blu-Ray also has almost 3 hours of special features: 107 minutes of in-depth behind-the-scenes, 37 minutes of shot breakdowns, a 10 minute short called "Aningaag", and a 22 minute documentary on the very real and present dangers that plague the space around our planet. All of these special features are worth a look.

There are 63 tracks total. 23 are speech tracks of conversation and banter at the BBC studio. Most of the tracks are different takes of songs from their first 4 LP's. The rest are covers of early rock and roll classics by other American artists. Many of these were never recorded in a studio or released on a Beatles album.

The remastered audio of these recordings is much better than what I had heard before on the 1994 release and there were also some minor track listing and editing changes made. There are about 30 songs not found on any other Beatle album. All of the tracks have clean starts and ends and the banter between the boys is great fun too.
