Too much like a toy...

My teenage son wanted to record player/turntable for his birthday. Since he did not have any type of stereo system I saw this unit with lots of features, including Bluetooth. The retro VU meters looked nice too. When the unit arrived, I was surprised how light each box was, but did not want to prejudge before everything was set up The turntable size was much smaller than expected. There are slots in the lid so you can play a full size record with the lid closed. But the tone arm was really flimsy and seemed like it needed to be weighted. We tried to play old records first, but each one seemed to skip, then we tried a new record and is skipped too. I did not want to keep trying so we went back to testing with an old record. Sound quality is awful, the slightest hint of any bass note sounds like the speakers are spitting. The VU meters don't swing with every input, I think only with the radio function from memory. Needless to say, I returned this unit, did more research and purchased a separate turntable and used it with a set of nicer powered speakers.
