Best mouse I have owned in 16 years
on July 20, 2010

I have gone through many mice in my 16 years of programming...
I cannot judge battery life as I have owned this mouse less than a month. This review is based on 1 weeks constant use (12-14 hours use per day). I am thrilled with this mouse!
It is a good size, fits nicely in my average, male-sized hands. I like the tactile feedback on the scrollwheel, back and fwd buttons are nicely placed - accessible, but hard to accidently hit. The left and right buttons have a nice microswitch feel too.
The accuracy is top notch on a non-glossy surface. I can correctly hit pixel-width spaces. The software install went without a hitch. I downloaded the latest from Logitech. I am running Win 7 64 bit and have the latest Synaptics and WACOM drivers installed (no contention with driver software).
I was not planning on carrying this mouse to and from work, but I like it so much, that is what I am doing.
Another plus is the software allows customizing mouse buttons per application - I have changed the scroll wheel tilt to control the volume for Windows Media Player. Highly recommended!
What's great about it: Accuracy, Bigger, comfortable size, feel, software
What's not so great: Price - I paid Forty, would like to see this go for Thirty, but it is worth it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

DDR2 vs DDR3

When looking for a laptop for my son for college I was told that a laptop with 3G DDR3 memory was the same as one with 4G DDR2 memory . Is this correct?
No.
In general, the DDR3 memory will perform better than the DDR2 memory. But DDR3 is more expensive than DDR2, and it is not 25% faster or better performing than DDR2. If I had the choice between 3GB DDR3 and 4GB DDR3, I would pick the 4GB if all else were equal.
I would suggest 4GB minimum memory for a laptop that will perform even basic computing. You may want to check what is the most RAM the laptop can have, so 2 years from now, when memory is cheap, you can add more memory to get more performance.

Is there such a thing as a magnification screen to attatch to a laptop?

No.
However, you may be able to change your screen settings to allow you a better view.
Google your computer model (or look this up in your manuel) to find the "native resolution" of your screen - that is the best resolution for your screen. If the letters are too small for you, you can change the either the system font or the screen size - in Windows 7, it is right-click on the desktop, select screen. If you have another operating system, just google "screen size change" with your operating system. In general, you can always make the screen bigger (which means less information can be seen on the screen, but it should be easier to read).
