Excellent little device

This is one interesting device. As an avid technologist, I wanted to give Chrome OS a try. I have to say that I am quite impressed with the build quality and how well it performs.
Chrome OS is a exceptional OS with Linux at the core. It is fast and simple to use, along with an exceptional battery life (9+ hours). You can work offline with Google Apps, including mail. For those needing Microsoft Office, you can easily access Office 365. If you need something more specific, you can remote into a Mac or PC.
I love the matted screen. It is sharp and is easy on the eyes. Going back to the battery...this things recharges fast.
For the coder or those needing a shell, you can find an app to accomplish the mission.
I would definitely recommend this device to anyone needing a cost effective computer. 98% of what people do with their computers take place via the internet. It is a great device and it will not disappoint.
If you can afford it, I would spring for the model with 4GB of ram.

Outstanding Device

This is a great device. I had several reasons for trying out this device. First, it is multip-platform. I am mostly Apple, but wanted to be able to use other devices, especially if in the boardroom or in classes. The Chromecast worked well. Secondly, I wanted to see how I could use it for the classroom and wireless presentations. Because I use Google Apps, this was an excellent investment. Not only can I project wirelessly, but anything that is presented in the Chrome browser will play. This makes it a great resource for teachers.
All in all, the Chromecast is a great value and I would highly recommend.

What's great about it: Simple setup, great value, great for education and business
What's not so great: Wish it had more apps for Chrome

Best in class

Age:35-44
Phone size:Just right
This is an excellent device and I feel that it is one of the best phones on the market. This is my second iOS device and prior to that, I was on the Android platform since the HTC Hero.
What I like about this phone is the size, stability of the OS, the quality apps and the excellent service and support from Apple. While it does not have the larger screen of the competition, the 4 inch display is pristine. I actually like that this phone fits comfortably in your hand and pocket.
As for the OS, I am sold on the stability and consistent performance from Apple. While I do miss my widgets, I am sold on having a near-flawless OS that works. For myself, I need a device that works all the time and I have found that with iOS. Honestly, I really do not have time to tweak and play. I need my phone to work when I need it.
Additionally, I feel that the applications outclass those on other platforms. iOS applications are consistent and are built well.
Call quality is amazing, including the speaker phone.
The touch ID is awesome. This is more than a simple upgrade. I found it to be one of my favorite additions to the iPhone family. It works well and make life easier.
The camera is the best in the business. I have taken several photos, both in normal and low light settings. Bare none, this is the best camera for a smartphone. I would say that the Nokia 1020 is nice, but the phone is a brick.
Siri works well, but still not as good as Google Now.
The speed of this phone proves that Apple still has game. Its benchmarks show that it is the fastest phone out.
While I love the keyboard, I miss the swipe capabilities of Android. Aside from that, the iOS keyboard is the best.
The battery life is great. I get a full, power-users, day from this phone.
Lastly, Apple has support that none of the competition can touch. If you purchase the iPhone from the Apple Store, you have a 30 day return policy. If you have issues with the phone, Apple’s support is the absolute best in the business. While Samsung, Nokia, HTC and LG have nice specs and whiz-bang…if you run into issues, you will find that support is near nonexistent.
In short, while the competition has larger screens and more customization features, I would say that the iPhone 5s is the best phone on the market. Its size is perfect and elegant. The build quality is a standard for the industry. When you look at the whole package, Apple is the clear winner. Apple’s support and warranty service set them apart from the flashiness of the competition.
The iPhone 5s will not disappoint.
What's great about it: Stable OS, Quality Apps, Solid Build Quality, Fingerprint Reader, and best warranty and support in industry
What's not so great: I would like a 4.7" screen
I would recommend this to a friend!

The whole package. In a smaller package.A beautiful display, powerful A5 chip, FaceTime HD camera, iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, ultrafast wireless, and over 275,000 apps ready to download from the App Store. iPad mini is an iPad in every way, shape, and slightly smaller form.

Excellent buy...you will not be disappointed

I purchased the Mini due to its form factor and because my daughter took over my iPad 2. While this does not have the technology of the 4th generation iPad (A6 and retina screen), this is a great little performer. I wanted a solid device that I would use at work. As an IT professional, the Mini fit the bill and I am extremely pleased. I use Outlook+ to sync my Microsoft Onenote, among other things.
I had looked at the Nexus 7, but avoided it because it was made by Asus. Asus not only has the worst customer service in the industry, but their quality control is lacking.
The iPad apps are bar none better than its android counterparts. I love my android devices, but I really do not have time to play.
I chose the iPad because it is stable, the app selection is plentiful and Apple makes a quality product.
I highly recommend.
What's great about it: Size, performance, screen, functionality
What's not so great: Wish it had the A6 CPU and Retina screen
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not Compatible w/ a world of Microsoft and MAC OS
By LCOOK
The solid state drive is heaven. The computer runs smoothly and quickly. Battery life is impressive. It's aesthetically pleasing and portable.
BUT Nearly every application runs online.
If you were attached to Microsoft Office, prepare to have your life disrupted. The Word Online substitute is basic and does not offer more advanced options.
You cannot download older programs, games, instant messengers, etc. Anything that has not been designed recently to work with a Chrome OS cannot be downloaded.
If you don't have internet you literally can't even open Google Docs/Sheets/Slides (Chrome's pathetic excuse for a Microsoft Office program replacements). There are offline options, but really... I need to be connected to the internet to type a few words in a document?
Every program you want must be in the Google Play Store. That's it. Those are your options. Want to play an old game you purchased online? Nope. Want to use an instant message system? Too bad. Want to watch an Amazon Prime Video? No can do.
The Chromebook is to disconnected from the classic OS we are used to. The computer simply can't run the programs most computers can. It's infuriating. I don't think you can get different browsers either (I.E. Mozilla, IE)
Finally, their "Settings" is confusing, limited, and prevent the user from changing more advanced settings easily-if at all.
A good second computer, I guess. I runs well.... it just doesn't run much!

If you need Office...
November 16, 2014
For those that need Microsoft Office, you can get a usable web version of Office by getting an Outlook.com account. This will open and edit all Office documents and keep formatting. It does not have every feature that the installed product has, but for 90% of those using Office, this will suffice.

Webroot instead of Trend Micro
By Rita
I had nothing but problems with Trend Micro because it kept telling me I was trying to protect 3 computers with it. I only have two laptops!!!! The salesperson suggested I change to Webroot instead and have been much happier. No problem with the installation. I like the screens better and it doesn't seem to be 'in my face' every time I turn on the laptop. So far I am very pleased with the differences!

No need to pay...get Sophos Home
February 12, 2017
Sophos Home is the best free Antivirus out there. It is enterprise protection, including web filtering if you want, for free. Webroot is not my favorite in that it is extremely hard to remove for most users. Don't waste time or money. Sophos Home, Avira and others offer great protection for home users.

Will android work on the wireless device I have in my home? Without purchasing new plan?

Yes, you can use an android device on your home network without having to purchase a plan. WiFi does not use your cell network.

If you are talking about a smartphone, most companies do require data plans to use them. If you are talking about the samsung galaxy or like device, you can use them on your network without changing your plan, but you will pay more for the device.

I would go with an ipad, personally. Android devices are great for phones, but are no where close when it comes to a tablet.

do headphones come in different sizes ? my headphone jack is loose in the ipad

Call applecare. If you are still in your first year, you can purchase it if you don not already have it. I highly recommend it for macs and ipads. It extends you for 3 years and if they can fix it, they will give you a new one.

streaming video + misc

I have the 16 GB Wi-Fi only model, and a wireless router at home......I've noticed that my video streaming sucks. Lots of stopping and starting.....I really would like to use my iPad to view Netflix instant movies and such while I'm on vaca.....and at home......how can I improve this? A new router? Is there some trick to buffering the videos so there's no stops? Also, can I use it as usual in Mexico/out of the country? Lastly, is there any way to attach a computer cam onto the iPad in order to make video calls? Actually, I guess there's no mike .... So it wouldn't work anyhow? Are there some sort of special port enhancers or devices of some sort that you can plug into the 'Apple port', so you can use devices meant for your regular laptop?! Thanks for any help!
My video streaming is quite good on my ipad. I have midgrade DSL What is the speed of your internet subscription? Checking with your ISP before getting a new router. A new router can help. If you have cable, you will need to make sure it works with your configuration. An inexpensive Belkin can work fine. They are reliable and easy to setup. Netflix, amazon, etc work great on mine. I suggest look at the speed of your internet.

As for a camera adapter, there is nothing I know of currently. This does not mean that someone will no offer one.

There is a mic on the ipad and I use it for skype all the time, as well as other services. It works great.

Give it some time and you will see more devices. Also, look at leveraging the cloud, which is what the iPad is built around.
