Sierra88's Reviews

The SoundTouch® 300 soundbar looks slim. But the sound? Anything but. That’s because every cubic inch of it is packed with technologies that make everything you listen to or watch sound clear and spacious. It starts inside with custom-shaped speakers that keep the profile low and pump out big sound. QuietPort™ technology virtually eliminates distortion so you hear surprisingly deep bass. And Bose® PhaseGuide® technology makes you believe you’re hearing sounds where there are no speakers. On the outside, the glass top and perforated wrap-around metal grille make the soundbar look as good in your room as it sounds. And with both Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® technology built in, you can wirelessly stream music any way you prefer. ADAPTiQ® audio room calibration from Bose ensures the soundbar sounds the best it can in the space you put it. HDMI™ connectivity with 4K pass-through keeps your system compatible with the most current technology. NFC provides quick and easy pairing. The SoundTouch® app gives you simple control over your favorite music. Works together with other SoundTouch® speakers so as you go from room to room, your music goes along with you. Includes a universal remote so you can control your other devices, too. Available in Black

Bose almost got it right

This soundbar is an improvement over the previous Lifestyle 135 Series III system but lacks key functionality.
Most importantly if you purchase this plan to spend the extra $700 on the subwoofer., otherwise you will experience the full capability of this system.
One of best features of the soundbar is Bose technology that bounces sound off the walls. It sounds like you have multiple speakers setup in your room. I like the sleek look of just the one speaker on my table and subwoofer hidden.
Sound quality is excellent it replicates the entire range of sound from 20hz - 20khz. I was most interested in having a system that can produce bass for watching movies. This is the only soundbar I have found that has adequate bass.
Now for the negatives....
1. No indicator for volume level.
2. Lights on the soundbar stay on all the time which is a distraction.
3. It is recommended to use a hdmi return cable from your TV. I have a 2016 Samsung TV that does not have that available. Not sure what TVs do.
4. No auto power on as most soundbars do.
5. Remote control is very large. Bose should replicate DirecTV's latest remote for the best user experience.
If one of the above negatives were included I would rate the unit 4 stars. For the cost of this it lacks key functionality.

Place the sleek Bose Solo 5 TV soundbar anywhere in the home, and connect wirelessly with Bluetooth for audio listening.

Best Soundbar with No Sub
on July 11, 2016

This soundbar is perfect for someone who does not desire to have a subwoofer. In my case I needed a soundbar for my TV on my patio but did not want a subwoofer sitting on the ground that occasionally gets wet and would just be in the way.
Installation is very easy. I bought a bracket that attached to my TV mount and installed the Bose Soundbar flush with the TV. It appears that the speaker is a part of the TV. The sound difference is incredible compared to a regular TV speakers. I am very pleased with the bass as well. You can add more bass using the remote control.
What really was a win is my original plan was to install speakers on my patio and hang them on the wall. I wanted to not only get better sound from my TV I needed to play music on my patio. This gives you both without all the clutter.
Having this placed in a large patio area with only one wall behind it proves the bass response is superior. I am certain if this was placed in a smaller room the sound would be even better.
Way to go Bose!

Outdated and Overpriced

I have owned the Lifestyle 135 Series III for over 5 months. For the cost of this system one would expect very high quality sound and modern software along with the hardware.
SOUND QUALITY: Overall the sound is good but I have heard soundbars that are a fraction of the cost and no different in audio quality. I purchased this because Bose has always been an industry leader in sound quality. Clearly the competition has caught up because this system simply does not sound better than a unit that is 1/4 the cost.
HARDWARE: The appearance of the soundbar looks very good and that is the only reason I kept it. Compared to other soundbars that have lights on them or larger this compliments not only my TV but the room I have it setup in. The control box also looks good. The remote resembles a 1991 home stereo remote. It is very heavy and large. Bulky and not comfortable at all to use. I can't stand it.
SOFTWARE: This is where Bose made a complete failure and why I am not giving over 1 Star. The 'Soundtouch interface' is awful and I quit using it after the second week of owning it. Graphics look like a 1982 Atari game and functionality is very limited. The app for your phone is no different. Clearly the app was created just to say the product includes an app it is truly what you would call a 'crapapp.'
I only use the Bluetooth connection to stream music from my phone. But keep in mind in order to use Bluetooth you must purchase a separate adapter. How can a system sold in 2015 not have Bluetooth built in?
So in summary I kept this system simply because it looks good. I own numerous Bose products and have been very pleased over the years but sadly they missed the mark with this product.
Bose, please bring your products up to 2015 standards especially a flagship product such as this.

Mind-Blowing, Wall-Shaking sound from a Soundbar!
By PJLACNP
I wanted a sound-system to compliment the experience of viewing movies, and TV, in 4K as it becomes more prevalent. The system was incredibly easy to install with a PHS (Push Here Stupid) level of simplicity. All of the systems plug into the back of the control module. When connected, you have the option of choosing which device you want the Bose system to control. The cable (I have Comcast Xfinity) remote does not match up well with the Bose control remote, but it does control the main functions. I still use the Comcast remote for the on-demand functions.
The sound quality is amazing. However, I do not hear anything behind me like the demo unit in the Best Buy store. That may be because I have not viewed anything in broadcast with Surround sound. But the sound that I do hear is crisp, brilliant and earth-shaking in action movies like Iron Man 2, the Avengers, and Transformers 3.
There is a limited number of titles that are in the 4K format, but I expect that will change soon. For instance, there are a handful of 4K titles on Netflix. I expect that these titles will also include Surround sound.
I also have an ENERGY (made by Klipsch) that is currently hooked up to the flat screen in my bedroom. It performs quite well, but not nearly with the brilliance exhibited by the Bose Lifestyle, Series III. I highly recommend this system. It is costly (over $1000), but nothing out there can compare in sound quality (in a sound bar). I would also be willing to bet that this product will exceed sound reproduction of multi-speaker systems, wires and all.

Customer Support? Good luck
December 14, 2015
Thank you for the reply Bose. I attempted to contact your customer support department and waited on hold 42 minutes before I gave up. If your customer support is that busy now then I can't imagine calling after Christmas.
I have updated the firmware and the app for my phone. No difference whatsoever. Yes I understand the system has Bluetooth, in my review I am pointing out you must purchase a separate adapter to use it. Same is true for updating the firmware, you have to use a thumb drive even when the unit is connected to Wi-Fi. I have electronics that are 10 years old that update through Wi-Fi.
Clear sign this is an old system that is getting patched up trying to look like it belongs in 2015. The only reason I point this out is the price. If you are going to charge a premium then it should have all the modern technology built in and more features than a product that is 1/4 the cost.
The best comparison I can think of is purchasing a 2015 model BMW and discover you have to pay extra for Bluetooth and has the equivalent technology that a 2002 model has.
