Perfect for Both Casual and Devoted Fans

Goldfrapp is one of those groups that remains far from a household name. Nonetheless, you can play nearly any Goldfrapp song for a random person (particularly someone who is roughly age 21 to 35) and receive a response like, "Wow, that's really interesting music," at the very least.
The Singles is pretty par for the course, as far as "best of" compilation albums of the past decade or so go. You have what is essentially a standard-length-album's-worth of highlights from each of Goldfrapp's previous albums, plus 2 new songs to encourage fans who already own all 5 albums to buy this singles collection. (A certain digital music retailer has 2 bonus remix tracks tacked on after the 2 new songs: "Utopia (Plaid Remix)" and "Alive (Cereal Spiller Remix).") While this practice is a bit irritating (hence my deduction of one point in the "Value for Price" category), seeing as how it would feel like a more worthwhile purchase if the record label released an EP with these 2 new tracks and perhaps a few remixes of older Goldfrapp songs, I would challenge nearly any music fan who says that buying the entire album to own "Melancholy Sky" and "Yellow Halo" is not worth the price. These 2 tracks easily rank among my favorite songs in my entire iTunes library. Their compositional structure is such that they could easily be arranged to be performed with a full orchestra, and I have no doubt that the results would be quite powerful. In addition to these new tracks, "Strict Machine," "Utopia," "Happiness," and "Ride a White Horse" are represented by their "single edit" counterparts (rather than the album versions), so those who prefer any of those songs in their single formats will be pleased to get them in this compilation.
This collection is truly worth purchasing. The 2 new tracks are incredibly moving, and Goldfrapp's music really should only be heard at CD quality or higher on the best speakers/headphones/earphones possible. While electronic music continues to carry a stigma among some listeners, those of us who are open to it are continuously rewarded by artists like Goldfrapp. Here's hoping that they are able to continue releasing albums for as long as they wish.
What's great about it: CD quality audio, 2 new breathtaking songs
What's not so great: Releasing new material on a "best of" compilation is an unfortunate business tactic
