Ravan's Reviews

The third season of The Walking Dead finds former police officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his ragtag group of Zombie-apocalypse survivors hopeful that a prison will offer true protection from the masses of undead. Though the fortified walls do, indeed, provide them with a certain level of security, the group faces a very real threat from the living. Though Andrea (Laurie Holden) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) find temporary shelter within a seemingly Utopian community led by a man who refers to himself as "the Governor", time reveals he is a control-obsessed sadist hiding many secrets of his own.

Season 3 rocks!

I rushed to BB this morning to pick up this set, and I have to say I am very pleased with the picture quality and sound.
The special edition case has a nice touch to it, but I took off one star as I feel the fish tank cover and the way the zombies have been screwed on to the springs is cheap and flimsy. I wont deny that for a 100 bucks one should expect a little better quality. Nevertheless, I am very happy with it as it sits right on the opposite side of my season 2 special edition zombie head. When it comes to functionality, you have to unscrew the bottom of the case with a tiny Philips screwdriver where 4 AAA batteries (not included as well) are placed in order for you to light up your case. The on/off button is hidden where it says Season 3. You must press the number 3 with some force, and there you have it folks, your zombies will glow in the dark!
Season 3 has 16 episodes, so you will get 5 discs, out of which the 5th one has the bonus features/extras. There were 1 or 2 episodes that I didn't really care for as I felt they wasted a lot of time in just boring, dare I say unecessary conversation, instead of getting down to the nitty gritty. Other then that, this season is fantastic and keeps you at the edge of your seat.
An update, 8-31-2103. One thing I don't really like is that when you stop the blu ray and restart, it goes back to the beginning of the disc and doesn't start at the point you left off! I have noticed this on disc 1 since I haven't checked out the rest. That is annoying to me! What's up with that? On Season 1 & 2, it would take you back to the point where you had stopped watching and ask whether you wished to continue or not!
Picture Quality 8/10
Sound Quality 10/10, gives your surround a very good work out, extremely pleased!
Update: 9-1-2013. The second disc also goes back to the beginning should you stop it for any reason while watching. You will have to find where you stopped via your remote. I'm not sure why on earth they decided to do that, but it is what it is! Now, if you have the regular dvd's, it should begin where you left off.

I was checking out soundbars at Best Buy today and having read reviews on the toshiba, l g and samsung, I really couldn't make any decisions. I saw this particular sony model hooked up to a television and it sounded pretty impressive. Ofcourse, with all the noise at the store, it was kind of hard to make a final decision, so I wrote down the model number, came home, did some research on Amazon and one other site. After reading so many positive reviews, I decided to give it a shot.
When I got home, I unpacked everything and getting connected was a snap! Since I already have a Sony bluray surround sound system connected to my dvr via an optical cable, I couldn't get decent sound with Netflix from my tv speakers. So, I bought a 6 feet optical digital cable (the one they provide in the box is short and flimsy) and made a connection between the soundbar and the tv. I started to watch the film "Drive" and let me tell you I was totally blown away by the sound! In the initial scene where the helicopters spot Ryan's car, it seemed like the copters were right over your head/ceiling. I am very impressed to say the least! I love my 5.1 surround sound which has wireless speakers, but this new toy is just amazing! It really puts the tv speakers to shame.
The remote is pretty nice as well and I managed to make my Sony universal remote learn most of the commands except for mute. My remote #universal# can also operate Netflix without a hitch. So essentially, I have 1 remote for everything, it's just that simple!
I listened to more expensive soundbars but when it comes to looks and value for money, you simply cannot go wrong with this system! It totally rocks in all respects! By the way, the wireless sub is about 12 feet away from the tv right next to my chair! Buy this and you won't be sorry! Excited!
What's great about it: The wonderul immersive sound/ease of use/the display/ options to set sound levels
What's not so great: A little bulky but not a big deal!

Internet Connectable?Yes
Connected to the Internet:No
I received this bad boy this morning. It was delivered by 2 very nice, professional gentlemen.
The picture quality through my dvr is great, but it is wonderful when watching blurays like Skyfall, which made the picture look immaculate.
I have another 60" Sharp and it has been great as well going on 3 years, even though it's an LCD.
Your seating position should be about 10-12 feet away from the screen and you will be fine! The TV speakers are in the back and aren't so great, but most people have it hooked up to a sound bar/surround sound.
Movie nights will never be the same again. I mostly wait for films to be released on dvd and don't really frequent cinemas that much anymore.
I haven't connected it to the internet yet but that's next on the list. Will keep you posted! All in all, a very happy customer! Thank you very much!
I have the following settings for this set::-
Picture Quality: Standard

Everything in Color Temp: 0, except set it to Middle, instead of High
Motion Enhancement: Off
Active Contrast: On
Gamma Adjustment: -1
Film Mode: Off
Digital Noise Reduction: Off

This ofcourse is my preference. You on the other hand might want to make adjustments according to your taste. Have a great day!

This movie is for anyone that has lost a child, it is very colourful but at the same time very heart wrenching/heart warming, makes you want to keep a closer eye on your kids, especially in this day and age. The bluray version is absolutely outstanding, the best picture quality I have seen since Avatar.

Being a big zombie fan, I was thrilled when this series aired on AMC. It was a bit disappointing that we only had 6 episodes, but season 2 is supposed to have 13.
The bluray is a bit grainy in certain places, but overall it's alright, i've seen better clairity on alot of older films though, so there's no excuse for them to lag behind on the picture qualtiy.
What's great about it: Good story and acting.
What's not so great: Picture quality could be alot better.

I have the old dvd copy of this film, I watched it a few months back and realized how grainy and washed out it looked, so when this went on sale, I decided to give it a shot, and boy was I blown away.
The colour is excellent, the sound is fantastic, everything you would expect from a hi-def blu ray, buy it if you love this movie, I promise you wont be disappointed! The picture is so perfect and sharp that it actually feels like you are watching it live....have fun!

This film is a re-make of a 70's film called The Omega Man with Charleston Heston. I just felt the infected in that movie were more natural as they were actual human beings, whereas, here they were animated, which took away from the movie. I'm not condemning this remake, it was pretty creepy at times which kept my interest. They should have used real humans done up with make-up to show the actual affects of the infection.
What's great about it: cinematography
What's not so great: the infected seemed too cartoonish

It's like you're at the movies!!
By Chad456 from Rochester, NY
I bought this tv last Thursday after a lot of research and reading reviews. The tv looks even bigger at home than it did at the store, which is by no means a bad thing!! The picture is absolutely stunning, it's like actually being at the movies. The built in LAN port makes it easy to connect to your home network and to the internet, and not having to worry about any RF interference, or losing connection to the wifi. I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants a movie theater experience in their home, but make sure to have an AV Receiver with good speakers as the built in ones do not have the best sound quality.

Your TV looks Sharp! I have a 60" Sharp Aquos that I got back in April 2010, and it still looks excellent, they make very good products, I wish I had waited for this 70" but I will get one shortly, enjoy your TV....looks great!

Poor contrast, terrible black level, hazy look
By blurayman from Chicago, IL
I wholeheartedly agree with the reviewer who said, "Do your homework." This television is flat out awful! It's not even trying to appeal to consumers who care about picture quality. It's only trying to appeal to those who value size above all else. It wasn't even manufactured with the intent of providing excellent picture performance. It's not even marketed that way! I am absolutely shocked that other people have posted reviews calling this television the best on the market. That is so absurd and preposterous that it's not even funny. I tried to laugh at it at first, but it's actually just sad. I can only presume that the other people were DLP owners that only care about size. They are probably comparing this to their previous 65" DLP, and noticing the improvement in technology. If you compare the picture performance of this television to any mid-level plasma or led backlit LCD, it's downright pathetic in comparison.
The contrast ratio is much too low for a set this size. The yellow pixel creates a haze that persists through any and all content. The black level is awful. I think the previous reviewer nailed it when he talked about how this television cannot display the look of an HD picture even when connected to a 1080P HD source. It always just looks like standard def content. It just doesn't have the capability to exhibit anything different. It's too large and has too low of a contrast ratio to overcome its inherent shortcomings. Please do your homework before you buy this simply because it is 70". It will give you the worst HD picture you have ever seen.

Sharp rocks! I bought a 60' Aquos in April of 2010 and it's awesome. I have seen the 70" at BB and they are incredible as well, that will be my next TV, I'm a big fan of films on bluray. This person giving it 1 star has to be an anti Sharp fan....total nonsense!

Biggest LED T.V In The World!
By Stephen215 from philadelphia,pa
I have done ALOOOOT of research on t.v's the past year. I have had many Led T.V's in the last year as well. Currently i have The smaller model of this t.v which is a 60 inch led. I also have seen this t.v in the store and i think i might trade it in and get it. To everyone who does not know this 70 inch led t.v is THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD as of right now. LG is coming out with a 72inch but not untill later. The picture on this t.v is the best but the t.v is not as thin as all of the other led t.v's. But lets face it the other t.v's are not as big as this one either. It is only alittle thicker not much. Please if you want the biggest get this monster. Make sure you go to the store and check it out, they also have it in sears incase you are not close to a best buy. PLUS the price is literally unbeatable!

I love the Walking Dead series. The series has a good story line. And the characters are good. Even though there are a few that get on my nerves but it makes it better for you when they get eaten by the zombies lol.
Best buy is over charging for the them. $59.99 is the pre-order price? That is way to much. $30 for the blu-ray set is much more reasonable. I hope they change it when it comes out.
