Best Buy failed to put any sort of description (or even a photo so I could guess) on this product. They gave it the same title (just abbreviated 'collection' to 'coll') as one of their other products, which actually has a description.
Some people had issues with the previously released collection set, so I assumed (silly me) this was a newer released set with the bugs fixed with the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" disc. Unfortunately, they just completely removed that film, along with The Phantom of the Opera and are charging $10 MORE! I will be returning my set.
BB, in the future, it's kind of important to have a description of what movies are included in box sets, especially if you have 2 products with nearly the same titles: Universal Classic Monsters: Essential Coll (Bby) (Blu-ray Disc) Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection [8 Discs] [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray Disc) (Eng/Fre)

What's great about it: The movies that are included are fantastic!
What's not so great: 2 movies shy of the complete collection. Wasted my time.
First off, don't expect this to be a horror movie. Yes, it has some horror elements, but it's actually more of a sci-fi/comedy flick. There are a few jump scares, but nothing which would actually frighten an adult. Think of it more along the lines of the film 'Serenity.' A good sci-fi movie with a lot of comedic dialogue, some tragedy and a few startles. 'Cabin' does start pretty slow, but the climax of the film made it worth the wait for me and actually made me appreciate the entirety of the film once I re-watched it. Give it a chance and go into it with an open mind.
What's great about it: The concept and execution of the story.
What's not so great: Seems to drag a little at the beginning.
I'm a big fan of indie horror movies, but this was aweful. I actually felt like I wasted part of my life watching this. The premise sounded great, but it did absolutely nothing for me. I will definitely giving my dvd away.
Obviously, this film is not for everyone. There is a lot of sexuality and profane language, but that is to be expected just from seeing the dvd cover. This film has a great 70's feel. Everything from the gritty look and film angles, to the great soundtrack that feels as if it could've been made four decades ago! The horrible acting and ridiculous dialogue are all purposefully done and make the film that much more hilarious to watch. The creators did a wonderful job! As for the Black Devil Doll himself... well you'll just have to see for yourself!
What's great about it: Filming, soundtrack, cheesy acting, non-stop laughs!
First off, it seems that people either loved The Hangover and hated Hot Tub Time Machine or vice versa. I fall on the Hot Tub side of the equation. Unfortunately The Hangover did almost nothing for me and I was half expecting the same of HTTM, but was I ever surprised! It made me laugh so hard I had tears rolling at times, and not many films have done that for me. I feel it boils down to a matter of taste in comedy. As far-fetched as the idea of a time machine in a hot tub is, I strangely feel it was more believable than The Hangover. Not that I have issues with outlandish stories or anything, HTTM just struck me in the right way.
What's great about it: Believable characters & great soundtrack
What's not so great: It's being compared to The Hangover
