Good basic streamer

I wanted something cheap to access certain YouTube channels, and this does the job. A little slow and futzy to navigate, but it gets the job done. I'm happy.

Based on the bestselling detective stories from author Agatha Christie, this British collection features four feature-length mysteries set amid the Art Deco area. Each story stars David Suchet as star detective Poirot, Hugh Fraser as Captain Hastings, Philip Jackson as Chief Inspector Japp, and Pauline Moran as Miss Lemon.

Poor Blu Ray Quality

While I love the stories, this set's visual quality is mediocre at best. Compared to the sharp, beautiful images seen in Series 1-6, these series look no better than run of the mill DVDs. For whatever reasons, the producers did not maintain the earlier visual quality. And if that sort of thing matters to you, avoid this set.
What's great about it: Acting and production
What's not so great: Visual quality

A children's film gem

To answer another reviewer's bafflement at not liking Hugo: Sometimes people just don't get a certain film. And these folks clearly did not. The fact that this was an overwhelming critics' darling (93% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer; that's among major film critics) says something. It's rare to encounter a kids' film so intelligent and thoughtful as Hugo.Hugo the orphan lives alone secretly inside a great Paris train terminal and constantly has to evade the station policeman, who would throw him in an orphanage. He tries to rebuild the automaton that his dead father found. He discovers that an old man with a shop in the station is far more than he seems, while befriending the old man's granddaughter. In the process he finds his new family and brings the bitter old man back to wonderful life. The other reviewer finds the movie dull, which is baffling. There's plenty of adventure here and more than enough action. The characters are lovingly drawn. There is no pandering to viewers--kids or adults. The eye candy that Scorcese has created is terrific (think your most colorful, nostalgic image of 1930s Paris and you're there). The 3D effect is on a par with Avatar--utterly supportive of the story, but never distracting or cheapening. Can I guarantee you'll love Hugo? Obviously not, to judge by that other review. But anyone who loves great kids' films and the history of cinema (a very vital element of the movie) ought to see it.
What's great about it: Smartest kids' movie of 2011

For fifteen years, Rumpole of the Bailey remained one of the most popular dramas on British television. This box set contains every episode from the show's run.

Brit Courtroom Classic

If you love British mysteries and love British character actors, you absolutely have to own Rumpole. These are all thoughtful, insightful, funny and wonderful mystery/dramadies--following the cozy legal adventures of a dumpy, homely, eccentric barrister who doggedly fights for the little guy. Surrounding him is bevy of equally eccentric supporting characters. Leo McKern (best known for the original Prisoner and the Beatles' 2nd flick Help!) is brilliant as Horace Rumpole, the Wordsworth-spouting barrister. It's a joy to see him grow older as he takes the character from middle-age to near-retirement; and gets the innocent off the hook (even if they're sometime villains [that's Brit for "petty crook"] themselves). One of my all-time faves.
What's great about it: Great stories, great characters, super acting
What's not so great: Mediocre cinematography, sparse extras
