Overall, I consider this to be a 'better' movie than the original version with John Wayne. And let's face it: To review this movie, you must compare the two. However, I still like the original better. How can one compete with The Duke (whose Oscar was well-deserved, by the way)? Bridges did a fantastic job as Cogburn; I don't think anyone else could've pulled that off. In fact, the entire cast, with the exception of Bridges (and it's a shame to state it like this) was either equal to (Hailee Steinfeld, Barry Pepper) or better than (Matt Damon, Josh Brolin) those who played the roles in the 1969 version. But Wayne makes the difference. Bridges had much to live up to, and he pulls it off brilliantly.
