Nice small form factor amplified HDTV antenna

This RCA indoor flat HDTV antenna is a nice little unit. Smaller and thinner than most flat antennas out there but still boasts a 50+ mile range. That said its build quality though plastic seems solid and unlike other models out there, has its own folding stand rather than an attachment. So overall the aesthetics of this model is very appealing.
One thing to note that it boasts of an app to select the best position for pointing the antenna. For me this is rather moot as the antenna itself is omni-directional. Nonetheless, it’s nice to know where most of the TV stations’ broadcasts are coming from.
One thing to note is that this model is a powered antenna. But the beauty of this is that the amplifier is a separate unit rather than permanently connected to the antenna itself. By having the amplifier, a signal boost results in less pixelation in HD channels. That said, broadcast quality primarily depends on your location and distance from broadcast towers. In my case I’m getting good reception. And since I have an HD Homerun unit so that I can watch anywhere in my home, there is no need (at least in my case) for the amplifier as the HD Homerun already amplifies the signal. Needless to say, for those who don’t have an OTA casting device, the amplifier is a welcome addition. Like most HDTV antennas, this features 4G/LTE protection and support for 4K TVs. These may be just marketing selling points as I HDTVantennas have been around for ten years.
There is not much not to like in this aerial antenna. And if you’re a cord cutter, you’d still need local news and weather shows plus live events such as sports and the Oscars which streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon provide. Of course your streaming device may provide news bits, they are not live nor local. And since the price point to features ratio of this model is very good, I’d highly recommend this to anyone who is in the market for a new antenna.

It still has it's flaws. Hold until they're fixed.

The Arlo Ultra is the top of the line security from Arlo. As an original four camera Arlo system user, I will give my intial thoughts on the Arlo Ultra and see if it is worth the upgrade.
On paper, the Arlo beats the original Arlo hands down. Among the most notable improvements are as follows:
1. Video quality – The Arlo Ultra has 4k video whereas the original Arlo has only 720p;
2. Field of view – The Arlo Ultra has increased its field of view from 130 degrees to 180 degrees;
3. Auto-zoom – This is a new feature added in the Arlo Ultra;
4. Power options – The Arlo Ultra uses a proprietary rechargeable battery like all models after the original Arlo;
5. LED Lights – When activated at night LEDs light up which is a nifty feature. The LED can also be controlled by the app;
6. Night vision – The main difference with the Arlo Ultra’s night vision is the ability to have color at night;
7. Base station – The Ultra has a new base station called the Smarthub and can also utilize all previous Arlo models;
8. Two-way audio – This a feature included in models after the original, but it seems two-way audio won’t work with my iPhone. It’s been more than a week since I’ve had this and it simply won’t work. Doing a search on the internet showed that this is a common problem especially when there is an iOS update;
9. Siren – This is a new feature on the Ultra. But this is a little than a beeper. Given the low volume, I do not see the value of this feature;
10. Local backup storage – Instead of using USB ports to store video, the Smarthub now accepts SD cards; &
11. Free one year premium service – This is a nice feature though I never saw anything in the box that says so. Nor did I subscribe and knowingly paid for this service.
So while while everything save for number 8 is better than the Arlo, I do have to add one more flaw in the Ultra which is the delay it has. First there seems to be a delay in receiving notifications from the Ultra compared to my older Arlos. Second even the video is delayed in the Ultra, so even if two-wy communications work, this is still pointless. And lastly live video freezes in the Ultra.
So as much as there are a lot of things going on for the Ultra, I’d hardly recommend it until Arlo fixes the aforementioned problems. Given it’s price point fro one camera and Smarthub, one can buy a four pack bundle of the Arlo Pro. These are my thoughts on the Arlo Ultra.

It's great but you may want to consider others

The Roomba s9 series is iRobot’s latest line of robotic vacuum cleaners. There are two models released namely the s9 and the s9+ with the main difference of the latter having an external dust bin. Also both the s9 and s9+ are designed to work with the Braava jet m6 which is a robot mop. This review focuses on the s9.
The s9 differs primarily from previous Roombas by having a D-shaped form factor. By having a flat edge the Roomba is better equipped to reach corners compared to the traditional round ones. Setting up your Roomba requires a 2.4Ghz wi-fi connection and either an iPhone or Android phone. Note that the Roomba like most internet appliances only support 2.4Ghz. Once connected, you can now control your Roomba via the app in your smartphone.
Typical of recent generation of Roombas are the ability to map your house and divide it into rooms so you can select which rooms to clean or to clean all rooms. Normally it would take up to five whole house clean cycles to map your. The battery life of this Roomba is rated at one and a half hours. And as far as my initial runs of this model, battery life performs as rated rated. In real terms that is enough to clean 1,100 sq ft. (My house is 1,600 sq ft and the Roomba always “died” before finishing the job so I had to close some areas in my house.) Likewise this Roomba both has Alexa and Google Assistant like the previous iteration of the Roomba. So far connecting to either Alexa or Google Assistant was a breeze.
So the million dollar question is, how does it really differ from previous models of the Roomba? I cannot really answer that from my actual test but gathering from other sources is that the suction power of the s9 is up to 40 times better compared to the 600 series. 30% wider brushes and a 3d sensor. Again I cannot verify this myself but as far as my usage is concerned, this vacuum perfoms like a medium power manually push vacuum cleaner which is not really bad. Also the dust bin can be purchased separately so that your vacuum can be upgraded to the s9+. And lastly and I have no way of verifying this is that it works with the Braava jet m6. After your robot vacuum finishes the m9 immediately goes to wotk.
And while there is a lot to like about the s9, the number one argument for skipping this for other models of the Roomba is its current selling price makes it a prohibitive purchase compared to others which could reach several undred dollars. And it is definitely not for everyone making it a hard sell. So unless you’re the type who want the latest no matter the price, then this model is for you. Otherwise, you may want to consider other models.

A fast non-Intel based laptop
on June 8, 2019
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The Asus Q series is a solid line of 2-in-1 laptops by Asus which is often powered by Intel chips. The Asus Q406DA is the first (at least in the United States) to sport the AMD Ryzen 3500U chip combined with the Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx. And while Intel have dominated the PC space, I will give my honest review based on my usage of the Ryzen chip and also determine if this chip has overcome the Athlon and Sempron chips (which I’ve used) of yesteryears.
The Asus Q406DA is a 14 inch 2-in-1 included in the Q series of laptops made by Asus. It is similar to the Asus Q405 which comes in silver. And that is has a 1080p resolution. A touch screen with Nano-edge technology meaning it has a small bezel. It also has a metal hinge which enables to swivel the screen up to 360 degrees thereby enabling it to convert into a tablet. It has two USB ports one located on each side and a USB C port and an HDMI port located on the left side. On the right side would be the power button and a micro-SD card (though I would prefer a normal sized SD card slot.) And like most laptops nowadays, there is no dvd drive but there is still a 3.5mm jack which allow for audio and mic functions. Included RAM is 8GB and it includes a 256GB SSD. The keyboard is lighted but it is still difficult to identify the latters which is a down side for this laptop. And lastly the laptop is powered by harman/kardon. But then again in spite of that, the sound coming from the speakers is tinny but nonetheless decent.
Now comes what’s inside of the laptop. The AMD Ryzen 5 is at the level of i5 chips from Intel. It also comes with the Radeon Vega Mobile with 2GB RAM. Do note that this is an integrated GPU. It is not a gaming laptop which has a dedicated GPU. This translates to of the 8GB RAM included with the Q406DA, the Radeon chip uses 2GB leaving you with 6GB for other applications. Now these specs are bordering gaming PC territory. So it is expected that the included Microsoft Office bundle would run smoothly and its also freeware but slower competitor LibreOffice. So I’ve decided to download with the help of my 11 year-old son some games. We have downloaded some popular games such as Fortnite, Creative Destruction and Paladin. And I’ve left my son roadtest these games on this laptop. So far all games run smoothly. And without any performance measurement application used, this is a fast PC. You can also go to YouTube and checkout games such as PUBG, Realm Royale, Apex Legends and Dirt Rally of which the video rendering on the last two games are very impressive IMO.
So, the final issue is to determine whether the Ryzen chip suffers the same fate as Athlon and Sempron chips. After several days of testing this laptop, I really haven’t experienced the heat generated in previous AMD chips. And since heat also results in higher power consumption, I felt during my initial use that the Q406DA has excellent battery life though there is no rating provided in the on the laptop sticker or documentation included. Thus while initial performance is good, the jury is still out there with regard to battery life.
Overall, I am impressed with this laptop and and quite frankly surprised that AMD has finally addressed the heat issues that plagued it chips of yesteryear. And given the price point of this laptop, this is a recommended buy.

It is a decent entry level headset
on June 7, 2019
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The JVC HA-S35BT-B is one of JVC’s latest entry to the already crowded Bluetooth headset. It is an entry level headset that does not pretend to be what it is not. It is an over-the-ear headset which plasticky in built seems to be solid and has a firm grip on your head.
It has swivel cuffs for easy storage and the cuffs are made of a faux leather material. While not exactly very soft, they are still comfortable to wear although they tend to be warm on the ears unlike other brands.
This headset seem to be part of a series of similar headsets as there are markings for other controls indicating that this is a lower model. Still it has on the right side the basic controls you’d find in tour typical Bluetooth headset. It has the usual power on/off switch which is also used to setup pairing mode and a toggle button for extra bass. It has a play/pause button which doubles as an answer/end call button. And finally a volume rocker.
The JVC HA-S35BT-B has a micro-USB port in which to charge it. It is rated at 17 hours. And my initial tests resulted to 15-16 hours which is not bad meaning you can use it the whole day for two days.
As for the sound quality, it has good bass when extra-bass is turned on. But do not expect thumping bass coming from it. The mids and highs though seem to be lacking. But nonetheless it has decent audio output – not bad but not great either. The sound coming from this headset is something you would expect from a headset at this price range. As an affordable go to or at least a backup headset, the JV HA-S35BT-B is still a go.

It works but HP also released similar models
on May 22, 2019
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The HP Office Jet Pro 8035 is one of HP’s latest office grade All-in-one offerings. It offers 20 ppm in black and 10 ppm in color. Prints are at 1200 x 1200 dpi. It can scan also at 1200 x 1200 dpi either in B&W or color. And it can fax (bw and color) at 300 x 300 dpi with a transmission rate of four seconds per page. It has bgn wi-fi capabilities and can do remote printing. And to boost it gives you eight months of Instant Ink subscription on top of the automatic two months included in most HP printers. It is pretty much better than my HP 4650 AIO printer in all aspects. In other words, it simply works.
So what’s not to like about the 8035? Apparently the HP 9000 series printers. Often HP would release models similar in form factor and eventually improve the performance of the next itineration often a year later. In this case the 8035 is a step above the HP 7000 series. But HP 9000 was released during the same time as the HP8035. But the former having a similar form factor and much better specs, also has the same price as the HP 8035. So in spite of the already impressive performance of the HP 8035, it seems HP made a marketing/sales mistake by having the 9000 series at the same time as the HP 8000 series. That said, I really cannot justify the 8035 over the 9000 series. It works no doubt about it, but there are simply other models with the same form factor and price range from the same manufacturer. I’d like to say more about the HP 8035 model but other similar HP models in form factor and price make me look elsewhere.

It's a premium gaming mouse
on May 21, 2019
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed is the fourth iteration of Logitech’s hugely popular G502 series. What sets this apart is that it is a wireless gaming mouse. Most gamers have complained that wireless mice have issues with latency and generally a wired mouse is the preferred option. But with the new G502 that issue has been addressed by Logitech as it boasts of the same latency as previous versions and has capabilities up to 16,000dpi. And while most may find 16,000dpi too much, it works fine for me with my 27” monitor even when I’m not using gaming applications.
Like the previous G502 Hero, the G502 sports the same form factor and functionality sans the wire. And while most may say that being wireless entails a battery and therefore making the new G502 heavier, Logitech was able manage the latter to be actually lighter by around seven grams compared to the wired version. Also there is this argument amongst gamers that the lighter the mouse the better. But then again, to each his/her own tastes. And like its predecessor, the new G502 has weights to set it to one’s personal weight preferences.
And speaking of personal preferences, the new G502 has the same 11 programmable buttons as the G502. Logitech now recommends that users download and install GHub to customize the mouse and using Lightsync technology be able to control and sync the lights with other Lightsync capable products such as keyboards and headsets. But the G502 itself is plug and play and still have full functionality. Of course, customization is no longer an option. And personally, I am already content with the default setup especially the ability to adjust the dpi from the mouse itself as it is very convenient compared to going inside Windows Control Panel to adjust mouse settings.
There is much to like about the G502 Lightspeed but battery life is not one of them. Being wireless with gaming speeds and being relatively lightweight certainly have a catch. The battery life of the G502 is rated at 48 hours with the light on and 60 hours with the light turned off. This is definitely a far cry from the months long performance of ordinary mice. So it is highly advisable to regularly charge the G502 with the supplied USB cable when not in use. The G502 also has a button which activates lights to indicate how much juice is left before a recharge is needed. But one added feature of the G502 Lightspeed is that it is PowerPlay compatible similar to the G903 and G703. The PowerPlay is a wireless charging wherein you replace the included charging disc with the one in the mouse thereby eliminating the need to periodically charge your G502.
That said, the G502 and if especially paired with the PowerPlay wireless charging system, the bundle would IMO be the perfect pointing device system. But unfortunately this bundle will cost you a pretty penny. And this is not for every gamer out there. But if you consider yourself a serious gamer, and are willing to make your gaming station the perfect one, then the G502 (and related accessories) will not disappoint.

Sony had come out with better
on May 7, 2019
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
At the beginning of the year, Sony announced that it will release two new soundbars namely the HT-X8500 and the HT-S350. But unlike the newer soundbars that is Wi-Fi connected and has either Alexa or Google enabled, Sony decided to come out with two “dumb” soundbars. Perhaps a respite from everything internet related, these soundbars may be the solution. This review will focus on the lower end HT-S350 and let’s see if it lives up to its promise.
The Sony HT-S350 soundbar measures 35 1/2” x 2 5/8” x 3 1/2” and is ideal for TVs measuring 40” and above. It not heavy at five lbs. It is wirelessly connected to a sub-woofer measuring 7 1/2” x 15 1/8” x 15 3/8” and weighing in at 17 lbs. And being “dumb” speakers (as mentioned earlier), there is no need for an internet connection. Combined, this soundbar system has rated capacity of 320 watts.
Connecting the soundbar to your TV is pretty much straightforward. You can use the provided optical cable or use an HDMI cable to connect to an ARC enabled HDMI port. There are no longer legacy ports such as co-axial or RCA ports anymore in this soundbar. Pairing the soundbar to the sub-woofer is basically plug-and-play and the initial connection between the soundbar and the sub-woofer took around one minute.
Using the soundbar with my Toshiba TV, I had no problem regarding the audio. However, when I used a 4K HDMI cable, I could not hear any audio at all. Oddly enough, I have audio using the same TV and cable using my old Sony receiver and a Bose soundbar. Though I am using this as a secondary home theater system so the optical cable is fine for me, a non-functioning ARC may be a deal breaker for some.
The Sony HT-S350 while only a 2.1 system boasts of the S-Force Pro technology which enables it to simulate a 5.1 surround effect. And to further enhance the sound other audio modes are found in the included remote. These include cinema, news, voice, night, game, news, sports, and standard.
However, upon using the soundbar I was honestly underwhelmed with the audio output. Even with the supposed S-Force technology the audio lacked spatial sound. To be fair to the product I decided to burn-in the unit with some of my reference movies which included John Wick, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Behind Enemy Lines.
However, the spatial sound was lacking. But this being a 2.1 system and having been used to 5.1 and recently upgrading to 7.1.2, I maybe expecting too much from this soundbar. But unfortunately, the sound overall was still muddled with highs seemingly lacking and the mids really being muddled. The sub-woofer even though powered did not have that oomph found even in passive 5.1 systems. The sub-woofer only provides a warm feel but really lacks punch. Overall, it really sounds like you’re just using a pair of computer speakers although louder. And it's also disappointing that this doesn't even have separate bass and treble controls so listening to music via Bluetooth is terribly flat. I have four different Sony Bluetooth speakers of various sizes and they all have richer sound but less volume obviously.
I have been a long time Sony fan especially with its audio products, but I really can’t say much about the HT-S350. It generally works (save the ARC functionality for me). But I am expecting more from this product, I have listened to other Sony soundbars in this class and they seem to have better performance.

There are other similar products out there

Twelve South products are known to produce Apple-centric accessories. The Twelve South AirFly Bluetooth transmitter is no exception. And while Bluetooth transmitters have been around for some years now, we will see if AirFly’s Bluetooth are better than current offerings.
Like most Apple-centric products, the AirFly comes in pristine white. It is made of plastic and not metal yet it still provides a sense of being premium. Also, the included USB charging cable and male-to-male come in white. And to further give it a premium look, it also comes with a small gray draw-string pouch to carry the AirFly and also the included cables.
The AirFly’s battery is rated at eight hours and it seems to last thereabouts. Pairing the AirFly is pretty much straightforward by simply pressing the sole button and setting your headset also in pairing mode. And while Twelve South touts the AirFly specifically to Apple Airpods or Beats headphones, I had no problem connecting the AirFly to my non-Apple Bluetooth headphones.
I have then connected the Airfly to an old MP3 player and works as advertised. There seems to be a slight degradation in the sound output but this is no dealbreaker. I then connected the AirFly to my Windows 10 desktop and watched YouTube and Netflix videos. Audio output is decent and it was pleasant that bout YouTube and Netflix did not have any lag. I have tried other Bluetooth headsets and found that most had a lag.
This seems to be a good niche product which you can use while on a short to medium flight or using your TV or simply using an old MP3 player. But the main drawback for me is the range of the AirFly. When I was roughly fifteen feet away from the AirFly, I always get disconnected. This is quite a disappointment from the usual 33 foot range of Bluetooth devices.
With the short range and not so fantastic sound and factor in the premium pricing as the brand is Apple-centric, it is quite difficult to give this a high rating. And though it works, there are numerous options out there that give the same if not better performance for a much lower price. Had the Bluetooth range have been better, then the premium positioning of the product may be more worthwhile.

Great affordable headset

JLab Audio is a fairly new player in the overcrowded headphone market catering to the budget crowd. The JBuds Band Wireless Neckband is one of its latest offerings to the market. I will do my honest review of this new budget headset JLab is offering.
First of all the build quality, the JBuds headset sports thinner neckband compared to early neckband headsets and is made of plastic. This is a plus as it makes it lighter and less intrusive for the user. It also comes in a black and have a comfortable fit. Also the earbuds are magnetic so you don’t need a clip when you are not using the headset but still wearing it. But unlike more expensive earbuds, the JBuds do not go into sleep mode when the two earbuds are paired together.
The controls of the JBuds are found on the right side of the neckband and has the usual power/pause/play button as wells as volume and forward/back buttons. Going into pairing mode is the same as other Bluetooth headsets and pairing was a breeze. One thing I like about his headset is that there is a non-annoying (IMO) voice prompt in almost every function. It even dictates the number of the other party when there is a call. And it also vibrates when there is a call which is a definite plus and a feature not commonly found in headsets from all price ranges.
There is no app for this headset like those found in more expensive models but that is not a dealbreaker for me. Battery is rated at eight hours but I haven’t really tested that full at the time of this writing. I have already run it for several hours and so far so good. Only time will tell if the battery truly performs as expected.
As for the sound quality, spatial sound is present and the bass thought not booming is at decent levels. The mids aare fine but the high are somewhat lacking therefore I feel that clarity is not up to my expectations. Perhaps I am expecting too much from this pair of earbuds. Nonetheless, the JBuds performs acoustically similar to other earbuds in its price range. But the features that I mentioned like build quality, voice prompt and vibration alerts put the JBuds a notch ahead compared to similar priced earbuds. As such I am recommending this earbuds for those who are in the market for inexpensive earbuds. Of course there are better earbuds out there, but then again those sell for three to four times the price of the JBuds.

Good, but photo download problem
By rangerdon
This is a fine camera in many ways, but after losing some photos and a conversation with Panasonic, I learned that you must use the included panasonic software to download photos. (I use Picasa.) That makes the camera less than 5 star, since iPhoto would have the same problem - so if you buy this, and it is a fine piece of equipment, use their photofun software to downloard

Internet not exactly slow and processor not bad
November 24, 2016
The wifi performance is good. However I found it odd that when I used fast.com to measure speed, the phone registered 20 mbps which by itself pretty good if you're using a phone. But since I ran it simultaneously with my pc, my pc had a 70 mbps. Also the processor is not bad. It is not the latest and is commonly found in low end or rather entry level android phones. If you want a better phone you might want to consider the POP 4S which is similar but has an octa-core processor at 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM 13 mp camera with a fingerprint sensor at $170. This sells for $150. So the $20 dollar difference is worth it. But the Black Friday deal sells at $50. So I got this phone. :)

Crash
By MarkTwain
I wanted to like this phone. The specs were just fine. The screen was just fine. The only complaint I had was that the phone reboots frequently. Fresh off a factory reset, it would constantly reboot before I could even set it up. As a software engineer, I am disappointed that software like this can even be released. This is not the way to showcase a brand and the reason for many returns on otherwise perfectly fine hardware.

Letting it rest seems to do the trick.
December 11, 2016
A lot of Alcatel models are like this including my Pop 4+. It seems that if you have a boot loop, let the phone rest for a few minutes then restart. do this even if you have wiped data. But this shouldn't happen at all especially for a new phone.

Unlocked dual sim android phone
By ASCX
Alcatel uses older underpowered cpu which slows performance compared to currently available android marshmallow phones. Alcatel does support adoptive SD card storage unlike LG and Samsung. Dual sim is a plus. Needs better processor to be competitive.

POP 4S has a faster processor
December 11, 2016
as mentioned in the title, if you need a faster phone get the 4S. It has a 1.8Ghz processer and 2GB RAM. There are three POP 4 phones - POP 4/POP 4 Plus/POP 4S wherein the 4 Plus is the mid-tier POP 4 phone. But for $49.99 during Black Friday, why not?

When it CAN be used its good, But it cant be used.
By Reona945
The phone keeps restarting even though the battery has more than enough charge. I've tried a hard reset and that hasnt helped. A factory reset stopped the cycle and i managed to use the phone for like 20 minutes and the phone restarted. When we ordered the phone, we also ordered a case from a third party. At first we thought the case was pressing the power button because it was a tight fit but it didnt seem right. There was also an incident i had in the past with the one touch evolve that was exactly the same. I would like to hear back and now if this can be fix :) Have a nice Day!

Reboot loop
By Proz
After having the phone for less than 1 month, I took it on vacation where I didn't have service. On the way my phone started to restart randomly. When I arrived at my destination the phone started into a reboot loop. If I caught it booting up quick enough occasionally I could navigate for a couple minutes. Even after I was able to get wifi connected and any other setting I thought could affect it such as gps location disabled the phone continued into the reboot loop. After researching on many blogs and andriod q and a sites I couldn't find a helpful answer to remedy the issue. I reluctantly did a factory reset but the loop continued. Finally, after returning back home I attempted to use the phone and it returned to "normal". I am very dissatisfied and I am generally very easy to please. I will be looking for another device to replace this asap.

seems to be the gps
December 20, 2016
I also did the factory reset to ease the symptoms. But it seems to be the gps module as then random reboots often occur when I am in my car and mobile. Also when I use Yelp and try to get directions, the phone restarts. No problem when I'm home though.

Good quality, but issue with 4G
By Praveen
I purchased this phone on black Friday because bestbuy was selling at $50, the phone had 2-yrs warranty, and Alcatel is one of the few good brands. I was excited about this purchase thinking that I paid only $50, but my excitement did vanish in a couple of days when I found that the phone restarts itself. After keeping an eye on the phone for a few days, I found that it restarts only when I drive or I am in a remote area. I googled about the issue and luckily found the reason behind restart. I am using T-mobile connection and had turned 4G LTE on. The 4G LTE service of T-mobile is not available in all areas of ABQ and therefore whenever I drove in areas where T-mobile signal was weak, phone used to restart. My phone never restarted in my school or in my house as T-mobile signal is excellent in these places. To fix the issue, I changed the network settings in my phone and set 3G as the default data service and after that it never restarted.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you,too.
My finding is - this phone supports 4G only if the strength of the signal is excellent, otherwise, it restarts itself. But I don't know why doesn't it ,like other brands, work in case of bad signal. My friend has samsung phone and she never had the restart issue though we go to all the places together in the same car.
All other features of this phone are like samsung phone - my the most favorite brand. I haven't observed any other issue and the phone works like charm. Speed, sound quality (the default music player doesn't have equalizer, so you might try VLC music player), picture+video quality, and call quality are just superb. Finally I started loving this phone.

I called tech support and was informed that there is an issue with this phone. Alcatel promptly replaced my phone with newer firmware and presumably hardware and the problems of random reboots have gone.

Will this work on a north-facing covered porch?

As long as there is enough light not necessarily direct sunlight , shiuld still work. Though some solar devices tend to oberheat when under direct sunight like batteries, I cannot ascertain if this is the case. Mine uses only indirect sunlight.

Has anyone noticed it being hot? Not quite sure if it would be ok for my laptop.

It becomes very hot. As per my initial use it use somewhere between 60-70C but I've read someone measure it as high as 81C. I purchased a 1mm copper heatsink with thermal tape and attached it to this SSD. As per my measurement temperatures range from 34C to 46C. I've read somewhere 50C is still considered normal or acceptable. Note not purchase the 3mm heatsinks (the ones with fins) as they are designed for desktops. The 1mm copper heatsink fits perfectly on ,y HP Pavilion gaming laptop replacing the meatl bracket (with thermal paste) holding the old SSD.

In the living room, control your compatible lights, TVs, and other smart devices with a tap or your voice. And in the bedroom, Nest Hub can help you wake up easier with a Sunrise Alarm.

What are the improvements over the first generation hub?

Soli motion sensing technology was added. You can have basic controls of the hub by just swiping over the screen. But generally Soli is used to track your sleep instead of cameras. Other than that, faster processing and slightly better sound quality were added too.
