Great mid-range headset

ROCCAT Elo X Wired PC Gaming Headset Cross-Platform Stereo Gaming Headset is one of three headsets released by Roccat which is now affiliate of Turtle Beach. It seems now that Roccat is focused PCs whereas the Turtle Beach is now focused on gaming consoles. That said, lets focused on the headphones itself.
First, this gaming headphone unit is analog wherein it has a 3.5mm jack for laptops and an adapter for desktop. Being analog don’t expect a USB adaptor to be included. Do note that that the cord from the headphone itself is only four feet long which is suited for laptops but not for desktops. But unlike most desktop adapters which are mostly six inches long, the included adaptor is three feet long making the total length to be seven feet long which is suitable if your desktop is tucked under or inside your computer cable. Also this length enables you to connect the headphones to the back of your PC which some would argue has better sound quality.
Build quality seems sturdy enough with a metal band on top. Clamping on your head is not tight nut still rather secure. What is rather unique in this design is that it has a memory foam bungy style secondary headband. This enables you to just put the headphones without any adjustments to the headband at all. Also the earcuffs have a slight indent to themselves which makes this headphones eyeglass friendly as it does not squeeze your glasses too tight.
The headphones has a removable boom mic which may not please all users as some prefer a movable mic. The volume and mic mute button are located on the left side which is my personal preference since I do not like those bulky controls on the cable.

Audio quality seems to be at par with other gaming headsets at this price range. I have noticed though that there seems to be a need to burn-in the headset speakers for improved audio. Using the headset for results to a mediocre performance like most gaming headsets that I have tried. But then again you really won’t buy a gaming headset for music. I have also used this headset for Zoom and Skype calls and I am pretty impressed with the call quality. Audio was very crisp and the mic has a very good response.
I’d pretty much recommend this headset more for comfort especially for long gaming sessions as it’s very comfortable in spite of average but decent audio.

The AfterShokz - OpenComm Bone Conduction Stereo Bluetooth Headset is one of the latest products from this company. But what’s so special about it? One is that is a bone conducting headset meaning that is doesn’t go to your ears but goes near your ear and sound vibrations pass on to your ears. This enables you to hear your outside surroundings. And while I really won’t recommend this for music, it is still perfect for passive listening to music and being able to hear your surroundings.
Being a headset, it has a retractable boom mic which has noise cancelling features meaning it blocks outside noise while you talk which makes it ideal if you make a lot of phone calls as you work. And it does help further that this unit is lightweight too making it comfortable to wear for long hours.
It connects via Bluetooth. And I have this with phone calls using both Android and iOS, Skype and Zoom and I must say call quality is good. People don’t notice if I am using a headset at all. And to add, battery life is great at 16 hours. The only downside I can think of is that it uses a proprietary magnetic charging cable rather than a USB cable (whether C or not) though my rating won’t be affected at all. So if you are looking at a headset to use in the office (or working from home) the whole day, I’d highly recommend this headset.

The iRobot Root Coding Robot is a fun starter robot designed for kids of all ages to the world of coding. Looking somewhat like a toy Roomba, the Root can be as versatile as you want it to be.
What comes out of the box is the Root robot itself, a USB-C charging cable, a whiteboard marker (you can also use third-party markers), a foldable whiteboard, a wiping cloth and some quickstart documents.
Charging of the Root takes a couple of hours. And you need to download an app from the Apple and Google app stores in order to setup the Root. You can also download the app for PC, Chromebook and Kindle Fire.

Furthermore, these coding classes are one off events wherein your child will eventually forget with what was learned. With the Root, it is yours to keep. And you can keep on coding until the life of the product ends. I’d definitely recommend this “toy”.

The j5create - ScreenCast 5G Wireless HDMI Adapter for MacOS, iOS, Android and Windows is a dongle to cast your device to your TV. Just plug it to a vacant HDMI port and connect the USB port to a power source whether on the TV or an external one. Then go to the input source and follow instructions. Simple enough? I beg to differ. First, it doesn’t work with my Pixel 4 XL with Android 11. It also doesn’t work my Atom based Windows tablet which has only a 2.4Ghz connection as it cannot discover the ScreenCast. (Do note the literature says it can connect through 2.4Ghz) It can connect though with my 5Ghz capable Ryzen based laptop but it is laggy and has no audio. It does mirror my iPhone XR though fairly well. And unfortunately I do not have a Mac so I cannot comment on that.
Given that most TVs are smart TVs nowadays, I can pretty much cast everything without this dongle. And of course there is always your trusty HDMI cable to connect to your TV. And since this dongle uses wi-fi to connect to your TV, any internet based presentation such as a website or streaming is impossible. So not only is this has been rendered obsolete with current technology (wireless or wired) it does not even do a good job in connecting. As such I really cannot see any practical or real case use for this device.

The Logitech K845 Wired Linear Mechanical Keyboard is one of Logitech’s newer keyboards and is targeted both for regular users as well as gamers alike. It has a full 104-keyboard layout but has a smaller frame making it smaller than most regular keyboards (smaller than my Logitech K360). Being a linear mechanical keyboard, It offers the typing experience gamers love. Being touted having a Cherry Blue MX switch, a typing switch with tactile and audible feedback. It also works even when depressed halfway. This is great for serious typists but not serious gamers. Nonetheless, it will suffice for casual gamers.
And like most gaming keyboards, it is also backlit. Given that it is only in white, this gives me the impression that it is targeting both regular users and casual gamers. It has five modes for lighting namely: breathing light, random, greedy snake, reaction and static. Clearly this appeals to the latter. It, however, is not Logitech G Hub further indicating that it is not exactly a gaming keyboard but a hybrid one.
One thing I like about this keyboard is that it has an aluminum housing given that most gaming keyboards are entirely made of plastic. (I also have a Logitech gaming keyboard.) This definitely gives a premium feel to it.
Overall, this is a great keyboard catering for most people. And while some may prefer a membrane type of keyboard as this like gaming keyboards are quite noisy. Nonetheless, I’d recommend this to people looking for a well-built keyboard.

Great basic coffee maker

The Mr. Coffee 12 cup or 60 oz programmable coffee is a nice coffee maker designed for bigger households and could make a good brew for one or six people assuming your one cup is a 10 oz cup. (Mr. Coffee measures one cup as 5 oz.)
This is a basic coffee maker that has a clock and a timer so that you could have your brew at a set time. It does have a reusable brew basket included but in my opinion using paper filters is better as they absorb oils and also the included reusable filter has a flat solid bottom meaning the brew comes out on the sides. (I wish the included reusable filter had a mesh bottom.) One thing I like here is that it has a strong brew option. It takes more time to brew coffee but definitely the coffee tastes better. Lastly there is a safety feature where it turns off after four hours. Now some people may find this too long. But for larger families or even in a small office this has the advantage of having hot coffee longer. All in all there is not much to say aside from it makes good coffee. So go ahead and brew your coffee!

The wireless feature is a game changer

The Compex Ayre Wireless Rapid-Recovery in essence functions as a non-medical grade sequential compression device (SCD) which is often used in hospitals and therapy clinics. That said it functions as advertised which is expected of this type of product. However, pumps in these devices are often bulky and wired making compression boots/devices a chore to use. Not so much with the Compex Ayre. As the description says, these are wireless. Meaning that each boot has its own rechargeable pump in each boot. And as per manufacturer’s claim, each boot can last up to three hours of use prior to recharging.
As someone who picked up biking as a hobby (due to Covid) and a type II diabetic, a pneumatic compression device (in this case a pair of boots) would definitely help relieve me from leg sores. Ang even though I mentioned these are not medical grade devices, these compression boots in an anecdotal sense also helps in relief for me as a diabetic. But definitely these help me reduce leg sores whenever I go biking. I haven’t biked much in the last several years so it’s natural that I am encountering leg sores.
And lastly these devices don’t come in cheap. The other advantage of the Compex Ayre is being competitive in price. Given that it does deliver its promise regarding performance and being competitively priced, I would definitely recommend this for others.

It works as advertised!

The Belkin USB-A Charger 24W is a nice small compact car charger. But wait. Aren’t all chargers compact and essentially function the same. Well while most compact car chargers can charge one or two phones at once, the performance is often limited by its power capacity. Most dual car chargers have a capacity of 5 watts. This wattage for the most part has worked fine for most of us. But since the iPhone 8 (AFAIK) has the capability to fast charge, this feature is often overlooked. And in real life, you really need a fast charger more on the road rather than at home (or maybe office). Hence, the Belkin dual USB 24-watt car charger comes in. It not only has one but two charging ports that both having 12 watts capacity. For this reason alone is why you should consider getting this charger. And with heavy traffic (in spite of the pandemic) this charger gives me a full charge in my iPhone whenever I travel the streets of LA. I’d definitely recommend this to a friend.

Still the best ANC headphones out there

A lot of you probably by now have heard the top-rated Sony WH-1000MX3 by now. And you’re obviously curious about what the differences are between the WH-1000MX3 against the newly launched WH-1000MX4. Well to cut a long story short, the changes are more subtle and not a radical improvement. So does this mean the WH-1000MX4 is not a good buy? Let’s find out with my first impressions of the Sony WH-1000MX4.
On the aesthetics side, both the XM4 and XM3 are generally the same with Sony indicating the cuffs are slightly larger (10%) and the headband cushion a bit thinner. But truth be told this in my opinion is quite negligible as I can’t notice the difference unless both are side by side.
Sony boasts of a new DSEE chip called DSEE Extreme which provide better audio. But Sony even admits that the changes are subtle. And to my ears they are indeed subtle. But for those who aren’t familiar with the Sony sound signature, the same 40mm drivers put out balanced highs and mids. And compared to other Sony headphones has a stronger bass almost comparable to Sony’s WB series but with a little less distortion.
One new feature of the XM4 is the addition of multipoint Bluetooth meaning you can pair two devices at the same. And though other brands of headphones have this already, it is still a welcome addition. And at least Sony listens to its customers.
You probably also know that if you put your right hand on the right ear cuff, the sound is muted. Well Sony also included wearing detection that if you remove the headphones, the music will stop and continue once you put them back on. Again, Sony is not the first on this one. But then again, Sony upped the ante by adding a “Speak to Chat” feature wherein the music stops once you start speaking. (From my initial fiddling with this feature, it seems you have to manually start again the music.) And in case you do not want these features, these can be turned off in the Sony music app.
The XM4 AFAIK still uses the same QN1 chip for noise cancelling so I am assuming there’s not much to add here. But the XM4 now has a custom button wherein you can use the default noise cancelling control or program it to use Alexa or Google Play with the latter AFAIK to be discontinued in September by Google. This is not entirely new since my Sony XB900N already has this feature.
Like the XM3 and other models such as the XB900N, the XM4 also boasts a battery life of thirty hours. But oddly enough, I had the need to charge my XM4 within 24 hours of having it. Obviously, this is way below what Sony claims. But perhaps I still need to cycle the battery around three times to attain the battery’s full performance capabilities.

The Mr. Coffee 25 oz. Mini Brew programmable coffee is a nice little coffee maker for small households and could make a good brew for one or two people.
This is a basic coffee maker that has a clock and a timer so that you could have your brew at a set time. It does not have a reusable brew basket included and it uses 4 cup paper filters.
There is not much more to say aside from the fact that makes good coffee. And Mr. Coffee practically invented and popularized the automatic drip coffeemaker way back in the seventies. That alone says everything. And be assured you are getting a quality coffee maker at a reasonable price.

The wifi performance is good. However I found it odd that when I used fast.com to measure speed, the phone registered 20 mbps which by itself pretty good if you're using a phone. But since I ran it simultaneously with my pc, my pc had a 70 mbps. Also the processor is not bad. It is not the latest and is commonly found in low end or rather entry level android phones. If you want a better phone you might want to consider the POP 4S which is similar but has an octa-core processor at 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM 13 mp camera with a fingerprint sensor at $170. This sells for $150. So the $20 dollar difference is worth it. But the Black Friday deal sells at $50. So I got this phone. :)

I wanted to like this phone. The specs were just fine. The screen was just fine. The only complaint I had was that the phone reboots frequently. Fresh off a factory reset, it would constantly reboot before I could even set it up. As a software engineer, I am disappointed that software like this can even be released. This is not the way to showcase a brand and the reason for many returns on otherwise perfectly fine hardware.

A lot of Alcatel models are like this including my Pop 4+. It seems that if you have a boot loop, let the phone rest for a few minutes then restart. do this even if you have wiped data. But this shouldn't happen at all especially for a new phone.

Alcatel uses older underpowered cpu which slows performance compared to currently available android marshmallow phones. Alcatel does support adoptive SD card storage unlike LG and Samsung. Dual sim is a plus. Needs better processor to be competitive.

as mentioned in the title, if you need a faster phone get the 4S. It has a 1.8Ghz processer and 2GB RAM. There are three POP 4 phones - POP 4/POP 4 Plus/POP 4S wherein the 4 Plus is the mid-tier POP 4 phone. But for $49.99 during Black Friday, why not?

The phone keeps restarting even though the battery has more than enough charge. I've tried a hard reset and that hasnt helped. A factory reset stopped the cycle and i managed to use the phone for like 20 minutes and the phone restarted. When we ordered the phone, we also ordered a case from a third party. At first we thought the case was pressing the power button because it was a tight fit but it didnt seem right. There was also an incident i had in the past with the one touch evolve that was exactly the same. I would like to hear back and now if this can be fix :) Have a nice Day!

After having the phone for less than 1 month, I took it on vacation where I didn't have service. On the way my phone started to restart randomly. When I arrived at my destination the phone started into a reboot loop. If I caught it booting up quick enough occasionally I could navigate for a couple minutes. Even after I was able to get wifi connected and any other setting I thought could affect it such as gps location disabled the phone continued into the reboot loop. After researching on many blogs and andriod q and a sites I couldn't find a helpful answer to remedy the issue. I reluctantly did a factory reset but the loop continued. Finally, after returning back home I attempted to use the phone and it returned to "normal". I am very dissatisfied and I am generally very easy to please. I will be looking for another device to replace this asap.

I also did the factory reset to ease the symptoms. But it seems to be the gps module as then random reboots often occur when I am in my car and mobile. Also when I use Yelp and try to get directions, the phone restarts. No problem when I'm home though.

I purchased this phone on black Friday because bestbuy was selling at $50, the phone had 2-yrs warranty, and Alcatel is one of the few good brands. I was excited about this purchase thinking that I paid only $50, but my excitement did vanish in a couple of days when I found that the phone restarts itself. After keeping an eye on the phone for a few days, I found that it restarts only when I drive or I am in a remote area. I googled about the issue and luckily found the reason behind restart. I am using T-mobile connection and had turned 4G LTE on. The 4G LTE service of T-mobile is not available in all areas of ABQ and therefore whenever I drove in areas where T-mobile signal was weak, phone used to restart. My phone never restarted in my school or in my house as T-mobile signal is excellent in these places. To fix the issue, I changed the network settings in my phone and set 3G as the default data service and after that it never restarted.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you,too.
My finding is - this phone supports 4G only if the strength of the signal is excellent, otherwise, it restarts itself. But I don't know why doesn't it ,like other brands, work in case of bad signal. My friend has samsung phone and she never had the restart issue though we go to all the places together in the same car.
All other features of this phone are like samsung phone - my the most favorite brand. I haven't observed any other issue and the phone works like charm. Speed, sound quality (the default music player doesn't have equalizer, so you might try VLC music player), picture+video quality, and call quality are just superb. Finally I started loving this phone.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you,too.

I called tech support and was informed that there is an issue with this phone. Alcatel promptly replaced my phone with newer firmware and presumably hardware and the problems of random reboots have gone.

I brought this phone for $50 during Thanksgiving and this phone was delivered to me after 30 days but I thought OK its late but may be worth it.
I start using this phone and haven't made even 5 calls this phone restarting by itself every min, so i did factory reset and tried all other suggestions from online forums but nothing helped. Since this is under warranty i had to ship it Alcatel repair center but on my own pocket expenses, AH!.
Alcatel should cover shipping fees as its their fault that their phone is faulty.
Alcatel don't even have their store/facility locations where i can go give my phone for repair physically rather paying for shipping.
I would also recommend that Best Buy has brand name and they should NOT allow low quality brands/product to be sold on their site.

I also bought mine during Thanksgiving and had the same problem. I called Alcatel and they acknowledged that there is a hardware problem and emailed a shipping label for FedEx. Within a week or so I received a replacement phone via UPS. Do note I did pay for shipping and replacement of my phone. In fairness to Alcatel this replacement phone does not have the random reboots anymore.

The Bose 500 as well as the 700 were released August this year with the 700 being the replacement for the 300 as the latter does not have Alexa capabilities. All three soundbars like most soundbars have built-in ampliers. Also the three soundbars can use each others sub-woofers and share a common rear surround speaker model. But AFAIK these the 500 and the other models were not designed for the Cinemate series.

Google Play store states this phone does not have an Accelerometer, so cannot be used with Google glass.
Given that it is a low end Android phone, do not expect that it will have an accelerometer nor NFC. GPS and BT are standard features though.
