Feel relief aid anywhere, anytime with Compex® Ayre™ compression boots. Designed for therapists, coaches, elite and recreational athletes on-the-go, Ayre is a therapeutic product using intermittent pneumatic compression. When exercising, the body builds up lactic acid as a biproduct of muscle contraction. Ayre compression boots work to break up these small molecules and send stimulus to your nervous system. These compression boots are designed to help improve blood flow and circulation in the legs by mobilizing lactic acid, access fluids, and other toxins. Compex Ayre uses a dynamic pulsing compression up the limbs in waves for the duration of its use, which helps promote quick healing. Sit back, power up the boots, and enjoy your recovery for up to 60 minutes anywhere on a single charge.

The wireless feature is a game changer
on September 17, 2020

from Glendora, CA
The Compex Ayre Wireless Rapid-Recovery in essence functions as a non-medical grade sequential compression device (SCD) which is often used in hospitals and therapy clinics. That said it functions as advertised which is expected of this type of product. However, pumps in these devices are often bulky and wired making compression boots/devices a chore to use. Not so much with the Compex Ayre. As the description says, these are wireless. Meaning that each boot has its own rechargeable pump in each boot. And as per manufacturer’s claim, each boot can last up to three hours of use prior to recharging.
As someone who picked up biking as a hobby (due to Covid) and a type II diabetic, a pneumatic compression device (in this case a pair of boots) would definitely help relieve me from leg sores. Ang even though I mentioned these are not medical grade devices, these compression boots in an anecdotal sense also helps in relief for me as a diabetic. But definitely these help me reduce leg sores whenever I go biking. I haven’t biked much in the last several years so it’s natural that I am encountering leg sores.
And lastly these devices don’t come in cheap. The other advantage of the Compex Ayre is being competitive in price. Given that it does deliver its promise regarding performance and being competitively priced, I would definitely recommend this for others.

The Belkin USB-A Charger 24W is a nice small compact car charger. But wait. Aren’t all chargers compact and essentially function the same. Well while most compact car chargers can charge one or two phones at once, the performance is often limited by its power capacity. Most dual car chargers have a capacity of 5 watts. This wattage for the most part has worked fine for most of us. But since the iPhone 8 (AFAIK) has the capability to fast charge, this feature is often overlooked. And in real life, you really need a fast charger more on the road rather than at home (or maybe office). Hence, the Belkin dual USB 24-watt car charger comes in. It not only has one but two charging ports that both having 12 watts capacity. For this reason alone is why you should consider getting this charger. And with heavy traffic (in spite of the pandemic) this charger gives me a full charge in my iPhone whenever I travel the streets of LA. I’d definitely recommend this to a friend.

Still the best ANC headphones out there

A lot of you probably by now have heard the top-rated Sony WH-1000MX3 by now. And you’re obviously curious about what the differences are between the WH-1000MX3 against the newly launched WH-1000MX4. Well to cut a long story short, the changes are more subtle and not a radical improvement. So does this mean the WH-1000MX4 is not a good buy? Let’s find out with my first impressions of the Sony WH-1000MX4.
On the aesthetics side, both the XM4 and XM3 are generally the same with Sony indicating the cuffs are slightly larger (10%) and the headband cushion a bit thinner. But truth be told this in my opinion is quite negligible as I can’t notice the difference unless both are side by side.
Sony boasts of a new DSEE chip called DSEE Extreme which provide better audio. But Sony even admits that the changes are subtle. And to my ears they are indeed subtle. But for those who aren’t familiar with the Sony sound signature, the same 40mm drivers put out balanced highs and mids. And compared to other Sony headphones has a stronger bass almost comparable to Sony’s WB series but with a little less distortion.
One new feature of the XM4 is the addition of multipoint Bluetooth meaning you can pair two devices at the same. And though other brands of headphones have this already, it is still a welcome addition. And at least Sony listens to its customers.
You probably also know that if you put your right hand on the right ear cuff, the sound is muted. Well Sony also included wearing detection that if you remove the headphones, the music will stop and continue once you put them back on. Again, Sony is not the first on this one. But then again, Sony upped the ante by adding a “Speak to Chat” feature wherein the music stops once you start speaking. (From my initial fiddling with this feature, it seems you have to manually start again the music.) And in case you do not want these features, these can be turned off in the Sony music app.
The XM4 AFAIK still uses the same QN1 chip for noise cancelling so I am assuming there’s not much to add here. But the XM4 now has a custom button wherein you can use the default noise cancelling control or program it to use Alexa or Google Play with the latter AFAIK to be discontinued in September by Google. This is not entirely new since my Sony XB900N already has this feature.
Like the XM3 and other models such as the XB900N, the XM4 also boasts a battery life of thirty hours. But oddly enough, I had the need to charge my XM4 within 24 hours of having it. Obviously, this is way below what Sony claims. But perhaps I still need to cycle the battery around three times to attain the battery’s full performance capabilities.
These are my initial impressions of the XM4 and is highly recommended. But if budget is a concern, the XM3 is still a good buy and prices are already dropping. But if you are willing to pay full price, the XM4 will be a good purchase.

It's a nice little coffee maker!

The Mr. Coffee 25 oz. Mini Brew programmable coffee is a nice little coffee maker for small households and could make a good brew for one or two people.
This is a basic coffee maker that has a clock and a timer so that you could have your brew at a set time. It does not have a reusable brew basket included and it uses 4 cup paper filters.
There is not much more to say aside from the fact that makes good coffee. And Mr. Coffee practically invented and popularized the automatic drip coffeemaker way back in the seventies. That alone says everything. And be assured you are getting a quality coffee maker at a reasonable price.

Good gaming earbuds
on August 5, 2020
Posted by: msumulong

The JLab Audio - JBuds Air Play Gaming TW Earbuds is latest earbuds from this company. And though this is touted as a gaming headset due to reduced latency, it is really a Bluetooth 5 pair of earbuds so latency is expected to be reduced. Marketing tactics? Maybe so. But then again is it really good for gaming?
First the JBuds Air Play Gaming TW earbuds are stored in a charging case which looks like a combination of a gaming and jewelry box. Like other JLab TW earbuds (I have two others), the charging cable is integrated in the case so you don’t need to bring a cable. You do need to find a charger or an outlet that has USB to charge the case. The most notable improvement with this pair of earbuds is that battery life is comparable now with other brands. Each charge of the earbuds has around six hours and an additional 24 hours from the charging case.
Compared to other JLab BT earbuds (I have three not TW buds on top of the two I also have), the sound signature is significantly different. Quite often Jlab buds have this boxy overall sound. Bass is pretty decent but somehow the mids and highs are muffled. It’s fine if you’re into heavy bass like hip hop, but if you want clarity look elsewhere. The JBuds Air Playing Gaming buds have better bass and highs thereby offering better clarity but lacks in bass. Also, I am a bit disappointed that the codec is AAC and not the better AptX.
Now for gaming, I have downloaded Call of Duty and Asphalt 9 on my Pixel 4 XL. And given that this is a fast phone, I expected some latency like my other BT headsets (most likely 4/4.2). And eventually the JBuds did offer reduced latency and can keep up with the action. Of course, I wasn’t expecting 7.1 like sounds like I was playing in a PC with a high end headset. But then again, we’re talking about TW earbuds here.
The JBuds Air Play Gaming headset performs as promised. But for me the lack of bass is somewhat of a downer though battery life is greatly improved. Call quality I must add is greatly improved as it has binaural sound unlike the older JBuds Air which is monoaural. I’d still recommend this for everyone.

Great one piece case

The Lifeproof brand of cases may not be well known to a lot of people. But for those in the know, Lifeproof offers a range of rugged cases competing directly with OtterBox. In fact, it competed directly with OtterBox, that Otter Products (the parent company) eventually bought Lifeproof.
The product I am reviewing here is the Lifeproof Wake case which is a one-piece case designed for the iPhone 11. Being designed for the iPhone 11, it has a perfect fit on the iPhone 11 including the buttons. And since the iPhone 11 has the same form factor as the iPhone XR, it naturally fits the later. (And even the case says so.) Of course, the camera hole would differ.
The case I am reviewing is colored black and has a wavy design at the back. In pictures it seems cheesy in my opinion. But upon seeing the actual product, it is very cool. And perhaps it is also tied up to its ocean friendly branding, The plastic seems sturdy but it feels a bit slipper. Perhaps over time it will have a betty feel as oils may be gone from the plastic. Who knows? It’s still early to tell.
The drop test is certified at two meters or six feet which I believe is rather low for cases made by Lifeproof (and Otter). Nonetheless six feet for me is more than enough for normal use cases. Also being a one piece snap-on case, it is not water proof nor snow proof in which Lifeproof is known for.
Nonetheless, the Lifeproof Wake case seems to be a durable and stylish case. And definitely worth considering. I would definitely recommend this product.

Nice battery powered mixer
on July 9, 2020
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
Hand mixers have been around for decades. So what does KitchenAid have to offer for consumers? Well this new hand mixer from KitchenAid is cordless which is a rarity in hand mixers. Quite often cables get in the way of preparing food and though it may a simplistic concept, it is a very nice convenience in preparing food.
I am not into baking (more into bbq actually), so I asked my wife to put this cordless mixer to the test and also get her inputs. Quite obviously the absence of a cord makes baking a convenience. But what we really liked about this mixer is that it has a very slight delay when going full throttle even at its lowest setting. Why is this so? It is an annoyance for anybody baking that eggs and batter splatter once the mixer is used. Even if you use a corded mixer at its lowest setting, splatter often occurs.
Another thing that impressed us is the power. Though you may not be impressed with the power at the mixer’s lower settings (though in some cases you need lower settings), once you put the settings on the higher levels, it can really compete with corded mixers. The mixer has seven settings so you can choose or fine tune the level of mixing of the mixer.
Ok so it’s strong but what about battery life? KitchenAid boasts that this mixer can do around 200 cookies and that’s a lot. We really haven’t baked 200 cookies but we have already made four cakes and several omelets and the battery is still strong. Moreso, the mixer has a slim profile which is smaller than most corded mixers which makes storage a lot easier.
Only time will tell if the battery will last. But in the meantime, our family is enjoying the convenience of this mixer and will definitely recommend this to others.

The Belkin Wireless Charging Pad is a sleek white colored round Qi charging pad that boasts of a fast 10W charging capacity. Adding to its sleekness are rubber feet both at the bottom and top of the charging pad so that neither your phone nor the charging pad will easily slip. A charging light is also added to indicate if you have placed your phone correctly or not.
I have tested this side-by-side with another 10-watt charger (the brand I will not mention). And from my initial observation performs like what a 10-watt charger should. It’s not magic. And don’t expect it to be as an 18-watt PD charger. Still this is the fastest rating you’ll get from a wireless charger. You may see other brands boasting a 15-watt capacity but they tend to overheat. Hence, 10-watts is the go-to spec for wireless charging. And the Belkin does not disappoint.

A product in its own category

The Sony ZV-1 is Sony’s latest “premium” point and shoot camera launched recently. It sports the same 1.0 Exmor sensor found in Sony’s flagship point and shoot camera the RX100 VII. One can say that the ZV-1 is the RX100 VII little cousin. And I say cousin as the ZV-1 is not only a stripped down version of the RX100 VII but also geared to another market namely content creators or vloggers. And in this sense Sony is creating a niche in an already crowded space.
First and foremost, one would notice that the ZV-1 and the RX100 series have similar form-factors. One would notice that the ZV-1 is made of what Sony would term as composite material as compared to the magnesium alloy build of the RX100 series. In ordinary words, it’s made of plastic and not metal. Still, it has a premium feel similar to what you would find in entry-level DSLRs.
Also gone in the ZV-1 are the pop-up EVF on the top left side and the pop-up flash on the center top. Instead you would find a hot shoe on the top left where you can attach an external mic or a flash and on the top center is a directional 3-capsule mic. One thing to note is that Sony includes what it refers to as a wind screen for the mic which you attach into the hot shoe. (This is wind screen is also known as a dead cat.)
The ZV-1 has an articulating screen (a first in Sony point and shoot cameras but not handycams) instead of the usual tilting LCDs often found in the RX-100 series. The mode dial notably has been removed and has been replaced a mode button and you have to use the screen dial. (This IMO may be a dealbreaker as some prefer an actual mode dial.) And lastly, Sony added a rubber grip to the ZV-1 which IMHO is a nice touch to it.
As mentioned earlier Sony touts this as a vlogging camera more than that of a stills camera. And since this is a “cousin” of the RX100, I would no longer delve into the quality of still pictures but highlight on the “vlogging” aspects of this camera. (After all, the manual is around 550 pages long.)
Like the later model RX100 models, the ZV-1 has 4k video capabilities, but one thing to really amaze at this camera is its product showcase function. At the press of one button (which is the delete button during shooting mode), the camera can immediately focus on a product (or any object for that matter) at an arm’s length distance when it is moved (fairly quickly) to the front of the camera for a close up. Upon testing this feature repeatedly, I’d say that I’m amazed at this feature and that it works as advertised. I have not yet heard of any consumer level camera even from smartphones that can do this feature.
Another cool feature of the ZV-1 is background defocus mode. A button on the top right of the camera enables the camera to immediately go into bokeh mode or cinematic effect as a lot of vloggers refer to it. What is interesting to note is that it’s a simplified process and one does not need to know about adjusting aperture. And while it works, it is worthwhile to consider that the bokeh is not as “creamy” given the limit of the one inch sensor as compared to larger sensors from m4/3s, APS-C and full frame cameras. Still the effect is optical and not through software. Also, this has an advantage over smartphones as the bokeh effect is limited only in stills and not through video.
These two highlights of the ZV-1 plus features from the RX100 are compelling reasons to consider this camera over the RX100 VII given that there is almost a $500 price difference between the two models. But also, the ZV-1 can also hold on its own against other cameras as well. My primary complaint for the ZV-1 is like the RX series is that it still uses the small NP-BX1 batteries. So it would be prudent to stock up on extra batteries.
And finally for vlogging uses, a wireless shooting grip (Sony GP-VPT2BT) is available too. It is primarily a remote control grip that enables you to vlog and also function as a small tripod.
Overall, the Sony ZV-1 (as well as it’s accessory grip) is highly recommended for those who not only want to shoot stills but also use a very capable tool for vlogging.

Decent pair of true wirless earbuds
on June 16, 2020
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
I have the original Skullcandy Sesh True Wireless In-Ear Earbuds. And the Skullcandy Sesh Evo True Wireless In-Ear Earbuds is much improved product. First, the battery life of of the Sesh Evo has been improved from three on the original Sesh to five. And the dismal ten hour additional battery life has been increased to nineteen thereby making the Sesh Evo more or less at par with other TWS earbuds out there.
Another significant improvement of the Sesh Evo over the original Sesh is that the Sesh Evo is binaural feature meaning you can use either earbud as a standalone earbud. Also, when making calls, the sound comes from both earbuds.
As for audio quality is concerned, it has the same sound signature of the original Sesh and is bassy. The mids and highs are somewhat muffled. But overall, the sound is still pretty decent for TWS earbuds at this price range. For this I am removing one star as I hoped the mids and highs would also be improved in this newer model.
That said, the Sesh Evo is still a recommended buy for those looking for a budget pair of earbuds that has decent quality.

Worst experience ever buying this phone
By Gourav
I brought this phone for $50 during Thanksgiving and this phone was delivered to me after 30 days but I thought OK its late but may be worth it.
I start using this phone and haven't made even 5 calls this phone restarting by itself every min, so i did factory reset and tried all other suggestions from online forums but nothing helped. Since this is under warranty i had to ship it Alcatel repair center but on my own pocket expenses, AH!.
Alcatel should cover shipping fees as its their fault that their phone is faulty.
Alcatel don't even have their store/facility locations where i can go give my phone for repair physically rather paying for shipping.
I would also recommend that Best Buy has brand name and they should NOT allow low quality brands/product to be sold on their site.

Alcatel covers shipping costs
April 20, 2017
I also bought mine during Thanksgiving and had the same problem. I called Alcatel and they acknowledged that there is a hardware problem and emailed a shipping label for FedEx. Within a week or so I received a replacement phone via UPS. Do note I did pay for shipping and replacement of my phone. In fairness to Alcatel this replacement phone does not have the random reboots anymore.

Printed well until ink needed replacing
By Macinzim
Every time I try to print or scan it tells me that I need to replace an ink cartridge to access anything on the printer. Ex: I replace the magenta and print one black and white document then it tells me I need to replace the magenta again. Epson customer service tells me "replace the ink cartridge" and nothing else. Printing one 5 page black and white document per month is costing me approximately $20 per month.

You have to manually set the APN for AT&T as settings for AT&T are not pre-configured. Contact AT&T for the correct settings.

The ROCCAT Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Gaming Mouse was aggressively benchmarked against market-leading symmetrically shaped mice. We wanted a design and shape that instantly felt better from the very first touch. Our aim was to have a shape that made it feel like you had nothing in your hand both in terms of a neutral shape and low weight. We wanted to do this without putting holes in the surface to cut down on mass as many competitors have done. We call it extreme lightweight engineering, and with a weight of only 68g we think the name checks out. The pride and glory of the Burst Pro is the Titan Switch Optical. The first generation of ROCCAT mice to feature the technology, the Titan Switch Optical brings game-changing benefits. Tuned for speed and durability, gamers get a familiar click feel – no learning curve – that functions at the speed of light, and with no more double-click issues. The ROCCAT Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Pro Gaming Mouse features a striking translucent honeycomb shell that gives a smoky, hazy showcase to the AIMO lighting engine while protecting against dirt and dust. Weighing only 68g, the shell also keeps weight to an absolute minimum. As well as the Titan Switch Optical, the Burst Pro features a PhantomFlexTM cable that virtually disappears, for a near-wireless experience, and a 16K dpi Owl-Eye optical sensor. In yet another industry first, the Burst Pro features heat-treated glides that are a step above PTFE mouse feet. They are pre-tuned for incredibly smooth glide right out of the box.

Get up to 30 hours of battery life with quick charging capabilities, enjoy an enhanced Smart Listening feature set, and carry conversations hands-free with speak-to-chat.

why is the mx3 the same price as the mx4 if there is no major changes?

Prices are dropping elsewhere. Perhaps when the MX4s actually arrive by the 21st, prices in Best Buy would also lower.

hello i was considering purchasing last years model but i read numerous reviews mentioning that the touch controls would malfunction in cold weather has this issue been adressed?

No one really knows for sure as it is summer. But since Sony doesn't say anything about this, I guess it's safe to assume that the issue hasn't been really solved for now.
