Great performance for its class

The Anker - Soundcore Life Dot 2 XR Earbuds True Wireless Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds is Anker’s latest foray in the ANC space. First, is that the form factor is rather small for a pair of ANC earbuds when compared to the competition which sells double the price. The supplied silicone tips have a good seal and to provide a secure fit, wings are also provided for these earbuds. And while I am no fan of wings, I must say these are the best fitting pair of earbuds that I own. (And I own eight!) And for comparison I have replaced the supplied earbuds with a pair of memory foam tips and quite surprisingly the supplied silicone tips can hold up against the memory foam tips. Add to that that the Dot 2 XR has IPX rating of 5 which makes it perfect for the gym.
Battery life of these earbuds is at an impressive 7 hours and with the charging case totals to 35 hours. The sound signature of these earbuds is pretty much balanced but will not wow bassheads. Fortunately, with the included app, there are 22 eq profiles to choose from and also a customizable eq setting wherein several profiles can be saved giving you the sound you want.
There are four mics included so calls are pretty decent. By that I mean voice quality is neither great nor bad as I have tried better sounding earbuds with other buds. Still in my opinion call quality is more on the great side so there’s nothing to worry about.
As for the noise cancelling, obviously these cannot compare to “cans”. That said the noise cancelling features are still impressive since unlike other models, there are several options for the level of noise cancellation you prefer. Even ambient mode has two options. These features are often found only in “cans” and higher end earbuds.
Anker/Soundcore provides a USB-C charging cable which is the standard nowadays. But still I wish that Anker/Soundcore added wireless charging capabilities in this model.
One thing to note is that Anker/Soundcore has released identical models with different names thereby confusing its customers. The earbuds space is already crowded and by doing so Anker is adding further to the confusion. Thus I am removing one star for this and not for its performance. Still, this is a great pair of ANC TWS earbuds.

A nice improvement over the first gen

This Google Nest Hub is Google’s second generation hub to be an all-in-one device. It is pretty much similar to the first generation with one notable exception – sleep sensing. But we’ll dwell on that later.
Setup of the Nest Hub was a breeze. All you need is to install the Google Home app to your device whether it be an Android device or an iOS device. Pretty much the Home app will guide you through everything.
Once setup, it is pretty much a hub that can control your Google connected devices via voice commands. But in case you don’t have any Google connected devices, the hub can function as a voice controlled entertainment device as it can be integrated with streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix and Disney +. Likewise, music too can be controlled via the YouTube Music app.
Of course, this can be your voice controlled assistant giving similar functionality found in your Andoid phone such as asking about the weather, date and time and what have you. Also, the screen also acts as a phot album wherein your photos stored in Google Photos can be made into a slideshow. And in case you’re not inclined to that, default screensavers are available. And lastly, the Nest Hub also has casting features should you want to integrate you apps not natively supported by the Nest Hub. Do note that while the speaker is an improvement over the previous generation Nest Hub, it will still not rock your house. Nonetheless, it performs quite decently. And besides, I have my dedicated BT speakers to do the rocking for me.
The main difference really is the addition of the Soli motion sense technology which is also found in the Pixel 4. And though I have a Pixel 4, I am not really a fan of this technology since I find limited use for it. Basically, the Soli technology in the Nest Hub is limited to pausing and snoozing.
But that said, Soli performs strongly in the addition of a sleep sensor in the Nest Hub. Rather than relying on cameras to detect your sleep patterns, the Nest Hub relies on motion sensing technology to monitor your sleep patterns. It is smart enough to distinguish if you are just rolling in bed or actually sleeping base on your movement. Also, the Nest Hub is smart enough to monitor your snoring and coughing at night. With that You can have a record of your sleep patterns which can enable you to improve your sleeping.
And though this may be better than wearing a sleep tracker, privacy concerns may still be an issue even though the Nest Hub doesn’t have a camera. But in case you don’t want nor need sleep tracking you can always turn it off Nonetheless, it still does a decent job in sleep tracking. I guess this is a feature not meant for everyone.
One disturbing thing about this new feature by Google though is that it may start charging for the service in the future. In one article, I’ve read that it may start in 2022. This is ironic for me since sleep tracking is a selling point for this device. For this, I am removing one star for a well functioning device. But for those still interested in the Nest Hub, this is something to note.

This coffee's great!

I’m not really a fan of fancy coffees as I prefer the traditional brew. But hey might as well try out what the fuzz about cold coffee. Well, here comes Mr. Coffee’s Single Serve Ice Coffee Maker. The ice coffee maker at first glance is nothing really special as it is really an ordinary coffee maker. What sets it apart that it offers convenience for those wanting iced coffee instead of a regular brew. Included in the package is a tumbler with two reusable straw. And by the way you can use your preferred tumbler.
Making iced coffee is fairly a simple matter. (Note that this is different from a cold brew where you have to chill the coffee overnight.) Just simply pour in water that is half of what the tumbler can contain in the coffeemaker and fill the tumbler with ice to the brim. Simply press the start button and coffee will brew and pour to the tumbler.
Normally the amount of coffee is exact when you use the included tumbler. But in as you use a different tumbler and feel that coffee will overflow, then there is a lever to stop the flow of coffee. It’s that easy.
I’ve never realized that coffee prepared this way. And I don’t really spend much on coffee outside my home, I just realized I can make those fancy cold coffees at home. In fact the box says you can save up to $800 a year on coffee. I’d recommend this iced coffee maker.

It works as advertised!

The Dyson V15 Detect is touted as the most powerful, intelligent cordless vacuum, with a laser to reveal microscopic dust. And I must say that the V15 Detect lives up to the hype even though I am not a fan of cordless vacuum cleaner since I have a different branded one which is quite disappointing.
First, the V15 detect boasts of two cleaner heads: one a slim fluffy cleaner head with laser designed for hard floors; and the other one a high torque cleaner head. I’ve first tested the high torque cleaner head since I’m more familiar with that one as it is similar if not the same head as the one found in other Dyson vacuum cleaners such as the V11. And coupled with Dyson’s Hyperdymium motor (Dyson’s name for a very powerful motor) , this vacuum delivers! I am amazed at the strength of the suction of this vacuum.
The included battery is rated at one hour in regular use but can be extended to 75 minutes as per my observation. There is also a boost most to maximize performance but that would be at around 20 minutes or so. The roughly one hour or so is enough for me to clean my 1600 square foot home. And by the way there is an LCD display on thing product too.
Next is the more interesting part is the second head designed to clean hard floors. Of course, a head that can clean hard floors is nothing new. But the laser light at the cleaning head is new to me or perhaps in any vacuum cleaner. At first, I thought it was some sort of gimmick. But when I actually tried it, it actually works! On the right sight is a toggle switch which turns on a green light. And when it’s on, you can actually see the dust on the floor which would actually be almost invisible to the naked eye. This is a very neat function since you can be more focused on areas that needs to be cleaned more.
Also impressive is the ability of the V15 Detect to detect the type of floor and adjust the suction strength. But more impressive is the ability to calculate and categorize particle pick-up. In fact there is a display that gives you a reading of how much particles are picked up in terms of size. This technology is similar to how an air purifier senses the amount and size of particles it collects. But for me, I’m already impressed with the amount of dirt it picked up when I cleaned three carpets in my house!
And like most vacuum cleaners, it also comes with other attachments to accommodate various cleaning requirements such as a smaller rotating cleaning head, various brushes and a crevice tool. Also, a hanging rack is included too.
And while there are documents such as instructions for using the hanging rack and safety guidelines, there is no product manual included. A quick check on the Dyson website showed that a support page for this product is still non-existent. But a quick phone call to Dyson’s call center not only resulted in answering my queries about the subject but also activating my product warranty with an email as proof of warranty. So, kudos to Dyson on that too.
I would highly recommend this product for those who want a robust vacuum cleaner.

A solid AIO
on March 9, 2021

from Glendora, CA
The new Dell - Inspiron 24" Touch screen All-In-One - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory is generally the update of Dell’s popular Inspiron All-in-One desktops. Boasting the newer 11th Gen i3 processor, the new Dell Inspiron provides nominal performance over last year’s model coupled with the newer and slightly faster integrated Iris GPU.
The new Inspiron still sports the black all-in-one design with bipod stands but with a tiltable screen/body and speakers located beneath. And like what the description mentioned earlier it has a 24” full hd touchscreen which has a matte screen providing less glare.
Touchscreen functionality is fairly responsive. But personally , I find it more useful in a two-in-one laptop setting rather desktop setting. The ports which include four USB – B ports and one USB – C ports. It has two HDMI ports one each for in and out. But for whatever reason I cannot make the HDMI in port to function as screen OSD does not seem to work. (This is something I have to call Dell about. And for this I am removing one star.)
The speakers are very decent and has that solid sound to it albeit volume is minimal. Of course, you can add on speakers of your choice. But for me, this is fairly efficient enough. A pair of a wireless keyboard and mouse comes bundled which is a step up give a lot of AIOs still come with a wired pair. But I still prefer to use my mechanical keyboard. And lastly, this AIO has a built-in webcam which is actually a pop-up/periscopic type which is neat.

And like most consumer grade PCs, this comes bundled with Windows Home 64-bit. Aside from Dell software, the version of Windows bundled has minimal third-party bloatware. And like most brand new computers, a Windows update is required which took me a couple of hours to accomplish including setting up the PC for basic use. Also, connecting to wi-fi was simple enough.
Not much more can said about this PC save for the fact that is a solid AIO. but do note that this is an everyday computer built for surfing and office applications. It may handle a bit of gaming and photo and video editing. But if those are your top priorities, better look elsewhere. And I would still recommend it for others looking for an everyday computer.

A fantastic ultra short throw

There are two color variants for the Epson EpiqVision LS500 namely black and white to suit your specific color preferences unlike other projectors which solely come in one color only. And the color white (and its different tones) seem to be the more popular color. What comes inside the box is the projector itself with a protective lens cover, a power cable, two remote control devices with two pairs of batteries, an Epson branded Android TV dongle with a short HDMI cable and also a short USB cable for power. Also included are quick setup guides in different languages. The full manual is available for download at the Epson website.
Setting up the projector is pretty much as straightforward process. First determine what size your image you want. The Epson LS500 is capable of providing an image size ranging from 70” to 130”. Of course the bigger the better, otherwise you would be better off with just a 4K TV. Epson has a video to setup the screen both available in its website and in YouTube. And for those who got the bundled screen, a popup measuring cardboard guide and a computer image is available to download on the Epson website. For those wanting an image size of 100” a projector distance or throw of 15” is required (Note the Epson video states 17” whereas the manual states 15”) and a throw of around 20” is needed. Also, the projector must be below or have a vertical throw of 13” below the screen. A complete guide for throw distances is available in the Epson website. And for the uninitiated the LS500 and most home theatre projectors have a screen aspect ratio of 16:9. In my case, I did it the old fashioned way, I positioned my projector 15” away from my wall taking measurements of 49” x 87” for a 100” image size.
Powering up the LS500 by my estimate is around 40 seconds but that also includes the boot up of Android TV. (Compare that to the roughly minute and a half from my 65” Hisense Android TV.) And without Android TV, boot from my guess would be around 30 seconds or maybe even less. From thereon, the next step is to properly align the projector image to the screen just by physically moving the projector accordingly by a little bit. (And that seems pretty obvious enough.) The next step is to go to Settings then start the installation. There you can see more details on how to setup your screen including how to use the use the adjustable feet on the front of the projector. The main issue here is that the foot knobs are pretty much stuck most of the time and has become quite annoying to adjust. Also, the front feet are non-adjustable. For me, it has been much easier to use floor protectors to adjust the projector.
Once done, you can use both horizontal and vertical correction to fine tune your alignment. Likewise, you can use the quick corner feature to micro align the corners to the edges of your screen. But with other projectors, they have an eight point correction tool as compared to the four corner tool Epson has. And if in case you really can’t fit in the screen in your screen, it also has a zoom tool just to do that. I actually prefer to make the necessary corrections by just physically adjusting the projector.
One thing to note is the blanking tool in the LS500. Generally, it is easy to dismiss the necessity of this tool if you are using a wall, a large roll up or stretch screen or even a fixed frame screen with a two and a half inch bezel. But coming from a portable cloth projector screen to an edgeless screen, I found that blanking out the image bleed to be quite annoying given the fact that though there may be an actual bezel in my frame, it is actually a quarter inch wide only. Physically aligning it would be a near impossible task as an ultra short throw projector. Even aligning your image with the keystone correction tool tends to greatly distort your image. And from my initial observation, image correction may be required as often you may change the volume of the show you are watching. I guess that is part of “projector life.”
With regard to image quality aside from it being great, I would like to make some layman or amateur clarifications with regard to Epson’s 3LCD/PRO-UHD. Most projectors use DLP technology to create 4K images with 8 million pixels. But most if not all DLP based projectors also use a so-called color wheel which if the projector is not adjusted and in conjunction with inappropriate screen may lead to the so-called rainbow effect. This has been an annoyance of AV enthusiasts. With 3LCD technology there are some advantages and some trade-offs. 3LCD projectors tend to be brighter hence the LS500 4,000 lumens ratings and this “rainbow effect” is removed. On the other hand, contrast levels are reduced and instead of 8 million pixels (3840 x 2160 or 4096 x 2160), PRO-UHD has a limitation of 4 million pixels (1920 x 1080 x 2). So what does this mean to us consumers. From my untrained eyes, the difference is negligible. Do note that I am coming from an Epson 3LCD XGA projector (800 x 600) which is not even 720p but higher that DVD resolution. The resolution is still great. Only pixel peepers will really concern themselves with this. But I am telling this to let you have an informed decision when considering the Epson LS500.
There are four color modes in the LS500 namely Dynamic, Bright Cinema, Cinema and Gaming modes. The Dynamic mode maximizes Epson’s 4,000 lumens giving you the brightest options. This would be optimal if there is a lot of ambient light around. However, this mode tends to oversaturate. The Bright Cinema mode as per my understanding utilizes 2,500 lumas and is the default setting. For those used to the brightness of TVs, this seems to be the acceptable setting hence the default. The regular Cinema mode uses 50% brightness, so I am assuming 1,250 lumens are used and in my opinion gives you a more real life cinema experience in terms of brightness. Also, the lower brightness helps you in preserving the life of the lasers though the LS500 has a life of 20,000 lamp hours or ten years or so with regular use. Finally, there is a Gaming mode which has the same brightness level of the Bright Cinema mode but boasts of a 16.7 ms input lag. But since I am not a gamer, this has real life use for this. And even if my twelve year old son decides to play using the projector, the default color mode is likely to be used.
Aside from the color modes, you can also find the usual color setting found on regular TVs such as Brightness, Contrast, Color Saturation and more. But for most people leaving these alone work as the Color Modes area doing such a great job. Also, custom settings can also be saved in the projector.
There are some things I would like to point out though. In the product literature, it is stated the LS500 is 3D capable. However, Epson Customer Service as noticed in Q & A sections in the web would state that it is not. But I have seen professional reviews stating that the LS500 is 3D capable and 3D movies such as Avatar and Alice and Wonderland were used for the reviews. But in my case, the 3D option is disabled even though though my Blu Ray player is 3D capable. But given these pro reviews I have seen were written months ago, perhaps they got early versions where the 3D option is available. And for whatever reason, Epson decided to disable it in later releases. As to why Epson would do that, I have not idea. Regardless, 3D movies have already gone the way of the dinosaurs, It is no great loss for me.
Also, Epson representatives say that you cannot mount it in your ceiling. But I have noticed that there is an option to reverse the image therefore, indicating that you can actually mount it. I find this odd enough since the main purpose of being able to flip the screen is if you want to reverse mount it on your ceiling. But honestly, that kind of defeats the purpose of an ultra short throw projector as one of its main selling points is the simplicity of setting it up.
Lastly, aspect ratio adjustment has been disabled too. I often use the aspect ratio to fill in the screen but that this is more for the computers I use. But then again, Epson did a good in maintaining the ratio and the blanking tool is doing a good job in maintaining edges.
But in spite of these shortcomings, the Epson LS500 produces fantastic images and video and has provided a feature set that can come with a fair amount of future proofing that it is a worthwhile investment. The Epson LS500 PRO-UHD Ultra Short Throw Projector is one of the best out there.

A Good scanner but with some limitations
on February 4, 2021
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The Epson - RapidReceipt RR-70W Wireless Mobile Receipt and Color Document Scanner is one of two portable receipt scanners released by Epson late last year with the other one being the RapidReceipt RR-60W. Both function the same save for the fact that the RR-70W has built in WiFi and a battery.
It is a sheet fed scanner so scanning books is out of the question. It has a rated speed of four pages per minute but upon use it seems to be six to eight pages per minute. Pretty fast in my opinion. It is a sleek scanner which is around a foot long, with a height and width of 1 ½ inches and almost two inches. And it weighs a little over half a pound. It is very portable indeed.
The RR-70W can either be connected via WiFi or through a micro-USB cable. Setting up the scanner via USB is as simple as installing the drivers from the Epson website and you can use practically any scanning software out there since it is a TWAIN compliant scanner.
Setting it up via WiFi is a different issue altogether. It took me several attempts to connect this via WiFi but found out later that you need to connect to a 2.4Ghz connection which the online manual does not indicate. And while this may be good for the most part, it will show its limitations if you use the scanner in a different location. Also, you can use a direct connection from your computer to the scanner but this will also limit you since you have to disconnect from your current WiFi connection. And in my experience I could not setup a direct connection to my computer whether it was manual, WPS or through PIN. The only way to connect is via USB. But that negates the value of WiFi. For this I am removing one star.
Arguably, the strongest point of this scanner is the included software. Most scanners especially those found in All-In-One printers have third-party software which are either limited in use, a trial version or simply usable in only one computer. The companion software for this is from Epson and it is not a trial version and can be installed in several computers. The OCR capabilities included are top-notch as you can export to MS Office files and also has capabilities to export to accounting software for receipts. (Unfortunately, I do not have accounting software so I was not able to test this. But exporting to MS Office is great as well as the usual PDF and JPG files.
If WiFi is not as important to you, I would consider the RR-60W as it is cheaper. But in spite of the RR-70’s flaws, having wireless is still a boon for productivity.

A great affordable pair of ANC headphones!
on January 20, 2021
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The Skullcandy - Hesh ANC - Over the Ear - Noise Canceling Wireless Headphones is Skullcandy’s budget or as Skullcandy calls it “everyday” ANC headphones with the Crusher ANC as its top model and the Venue ANC in between.
Being its most affordable ANC headphones, it is expected that build quality is plasticky. But unlike the Venue, the Hesh ANC has a rubbery texture to compensate for it. The headphones are foldable so it occupies less space when not in use. However as another cost cutting measure, it does not have a hard shell evo case, it only has a pouch which is not really a big deal for me. The good thing about the pouch is that there are compartments for its usb-C charging cable and 3.5mm cable for wired listening.
It boasts of a battery life of 22 hours which definitely lasts more than a day. I haven’t really tried the 22 hours. But since I’ve received my unit yesterday, I have been using this headphones which came with 80% power and so far it’s been holding up. This headphones unfortunately has no battery indicator and I am just relying on my Android phone’s battery life measuring tool.
And since I’ve been using this the whole day, the headphones has a snug fit and it quite comfortable thanks to the memory foam ear cuffs and also the cushion in the bar on top. Furthermore, sound isolation is already good. And with ANC turned on by default, it gives good noise cancellation. I always use my kitchen exhaust as a benchmark since I seldom ride on a plane. And the Hesh ANC is just slightly below the top rated headphones out there.
It has four mics for phone calls. And I’ve tested it for phone calls. Call quality is good but not that good. Still a strong performer. Ambient mode here is also good but not great. And if ANC is off, battery life can be extended up to 30 hours AFAIK.
Lastly it has forty mm drivers to deliver a decent sound signature Skullcandy is known for. Mids and highs are IMO on the right levels. Bass is slightly elevated which I like but not to the level of the Crusher series and definitely louder compared to the Venue which has minimal bass. Unfortunately, this headphones do not have an app wherein you can control eq settings. But being a budget model, this is kinda expected. But it does have Tile integration like most wireless Skullcandy devices.
For those wanting a decent but affordable pair of ANC headphones, the Skullcandy Hesh ANC is a high recommend.

A sleek double walled electric kettle
on January 20, 2021

The GE - Electric Kettle with Mechanical Control may be one of many since it does not really differ from any other electric kettle. What I do like with the GE electric kettle is that like most if not all current GE electric kettle is that is has a sleek design and a double wall. I also like the fact that it has a removable cover giving it the semblance of a regular carafe which can stand on its own.
The double wall for me is a game changer as it is not only cool to the touch, it can also retain heat much longer. Operation like most electric kettles is pretty much forward. Just pour water in up to the fill line or at least two cups of water. Put in in the base and plug it in. Press the lever below the handle and just wait. It will turn off automatically when water is already hot. And by my estimate it can handle 1.5 liters of water so it may take four to five minutes to heat water.
I’d definitely recommend this kettle.

A capable road warrior's assistant
on January 20, 2021
Posted by: msumulong
from Glendora, CA
The Epson - EX3280 3LCD XGA Projector is notably a road warrior’s assistant like me especially with regard to making sales presentations. It is the successor to the EX3260 with the EX3280’s most noticeable difference being the brighter 3600 lumens it has up from the 3300 of its predecessor.
Still having the older XGA resolution 1024 x 768 with an aspect ratio of 4:3 it is still a worthy projector. It can still receive signals up to 1080p meaning it can still handle videos quite decently.
Varying not much from other models it has the basic inputs a USB cable wherein you have to install an app on your computer for the projector to work, a VGA input but most laptops being thin nowadays no longer have that port and the ubiquitous HDMI cable which can handle both video and audio. Do note that the package does not include any cable at all. This model however does include a carry-on bag albeit a bit flimsy. But at least you’ll have some protection right out of the box. However, I am dismayed that this and other models no longer have a cover whether it’s a snap-on cover or slide cover for the lens.
Controls for setting the projector are quite similar across models. So if you’ve been using projectors for some time, there is almost no need for you to really read the manual (available online) as its operation is pretty much intuitive even if you haven’t been using projectors. A remote is included in the model. Also, I wish a laser pointer feature should have been integrated in the remote unit as well.
I no longer tested the unit using the USB and VGA cables as HDMI is the way to go nowadays. And upon use, I am impressed of the brightness of this model being an entry to mid-range model. Back I the day a 2000 lumens model is something to brag about. This is quite handy more so for salespeople like me since presentations are often made in just about any room with a wall in lieu of a screen.
Being an XGA projector, the limitations can clearly be seen when using a computer. But since it is not much of a big deal for your usual slideshows, this decade old technology is still widely acceptable in the business world. Using it for video let’s say a training video from YouTube gives satisfactory performance. One thing to note though is that a 1080p projector may cost a little more than the price of this model and you may want to do your research first. But otherwise, this model is a good one for a mobile professional like me. If you intend to use this as part of your home theater, it can still perform but like I mentioned earlier do your research.

Good, but photo download problem
By rangerdon
This is a fine camera in many ways, but after losing some photos and a conversation with Panasonic, I learned that you must use the included panasonic software to download photos. (I use Picasa.) That makes the camera less than 5 star, since iPhoto would have the same problem - so if you buy this, and it is a fine piece of equipment, use their photofun software to downloard

Internet not exactly slow and processor not bad
November 24, 2016
The wifi performance is good. However I found it odd that when I used fast.com to measure speed, the phone registered 20 mbps which by itself pretty good if you're using a phone. But since I ran it simultaneously with my pc, my pc had a 70 mbps. Also the processor is not bad. It is not the latest and is commonly found in low end or rather entry level android phones. If you want a better phone you might want to consider the POP 4S which is similar but has an octa-core processor at 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM 13 mp camera with a fingerprint sensor at $170. This sells for $150. So the $20 dollar difference is worth it. But the Black Friday deal sells at $50. So I got this phone. :)

Crash
By MarkTwain
I wanted to like this phone. The specs were just fine. The screen was just fine. The only complaint I had was that the phone reboots frequently. Fresh off a factory reset, it would constantly reboot before I could even set it up. As a software engineer, I am disappointed that software like this can even be released. This is not the way to showcase a brand and the reason for many returns on otherwise perfectly fine hardware.

Letting it rest seems to do the trick.
December 11, 2016
A lot of Alcatel models are like this including my Pop 4+. It seems that if you have a boot loop, let the phone rest for a few minutes then restart. do this even if you have wiped data. But this shouldn't happen at all especially for a new phone.

Unlocked dual sim android phone

Alcatel uses older underpowered cpu which slows performance compared to currently available android marshmallow phones. Alcatel does support adoptive SD card storage unlike LG and Samsung. Dual sim is a plus. Needs better processor to be competitive.

POP 4S has a faster processor
December 11, 2016
as mentioned in the title, if you need a faster phone get the 4S. It has a 1.8Ghz processer and 2GB RAM. There are three POP 4 phones - POP 4/POP 4 Plus/POP 4S wherein the 4 Plus is the mid-tier POP 4 phone. But for $49.99 during Black Friday, why not?

When it CAN be used its good, But it cant be used.
By Reona945
The phone keeps restarting even though the battery has more than enough charge. I've tried a hard reset and that hasnt helped. A factory reset stopped the cycle and i managed to use the phone for like 20 minutes and the phone restarted. When we ordered the phone, we also ordered a case from a third party. At first we thought the case was pressing the power button because it was a tight fit but it didnt seem right. There was also an incident i had in the past with the one touch evolve that was exactly the same. I would like to hear back and now if this can be fix :) Have a nice Day!

Reboot loop
By Proz
After having the phone for less than 1 month, I took it on vacation where I didn't have service. On the way my phone started to restart randomly. When I arrived at my destination the phone started into a reboot loop. If I caught it booting up quick enough occasionally I could navigate for a couple minutes. Even after I was able to get wifi connected and any other setting I thought could affect it such as gps location disabled the phone continued into the reboot loop. After researching on many blogs and andriod q and a sites I couldn't find a helpful answer to remedy the issue. I reluctantly did a factory reset but the loop continued. Finally, after returning back home I attempted to use the phone and it returned to "normal". I am very dissatisfied and I am generally very easy to please. I will be looking for another device to replace this asap.

I also did the factory reset to ease the symptoms. But it seems to be the gps module as then random reboots often occur when I am in my car and mobile. Also when I use Yelp and try to get directions, the phone restarts. No problem when I'm home though.

Good quality, but issue with 4G
By Praveen
I purchased this phone on black Friday because bestbuy was selling at $50, the phone had 2-yrs warranty, and Alcatel is one of the few good brands. I was excited about this purchase thinking that I paid only $50, but my excitement did vanish in a couple of days when I found that the phone restarts itself. After keeping an eye on the phone for a few days, I found that it restarts only when I drive or I am in a remote area. I googled about the issue and luckily found the reason behind restart. I am using T-mobile connection and had turned 4G LTE on. The 4G LTE service of T-mobile is not available in all areas of ABQ and therefore whenever I drove in areas where T-mobile signal was weak, phone used to restart. My phone never restarted in my school or in my house as T-mobile signal is excellent in these places. To fix the issue, I changed the network settings in my phone and set 3G as the default data service and after that it never restarted.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you, too.
My finding is - this phone supports 4G only if the strength of the signal is excellent, otherwise, it restarts itself. But I don't know why doesn't it ,like other brands, work in case of bad signal. My friend has samsung phone and she never had the restart issue though we go to all the places together in the same car.
All other features of this phone are like samsung phone - my the most favorite brand. I haven't observed any other issue and the phone works like charm. Speed, sound quality (the default music player doesn't have equalizer, so you might try VLC music player), picture+video quality, and call quality are just superb. Finally I started loving this phone.

The ROCCAT Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Gaming Mouse was aggressively benchmarked against market-leading symmetrically shaped mice. We wanted a design and shape that instantly felt better from the very first touch. Our aim was to have a shape that made it feel like you had nothing in your hand both in terms of a neutral shape and low weight. We wanted to do this without putting holes in the surface to cut down on mass as many competitors have done. We call it extreme lightweight engineering, and with a weight of only 68g we think the name checks out. The pride and glory of the Burst Pro is the Titan Switch Optical. The first generation of ROCCAT mice to feature the technology, the Titan Switch Optical brings game-changing benefits. Tuned for speed and durability, gamers get a familiar click feel – no learning curve – that functions at the speed of light, and with no more double-click issues. The ROCCAT Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Pro Gaming Mouse features a striking translucent honeycomb shell that gives a smoky, hazy showcase to the AIMO lighting engine while protecting against dirt and dust. Weighing only 68g, the shell also keeps weight to an absolute minimum. As well as the Titan Switch Optical, the Burst Pro features a PhantomFlexTM cable that virtually disappears, for a near-wireless experience, and a 16K dpi Owl-Eye optical sensor. In yet another industry first, the Burst Pro features heat-treated glides that are a step above PTFE mouse feet. They are pre-tuned for incredibly smooth glide right out of the box.

hello i was considering purchasing last years model but i read numerous reviews mentioning that the touch controls would malfunction in cold weather has this issue been adressed?

No one really knows for sure as it is summer. But since Sony doesn't say anything about this, I guess it's safe to assume that the issue hasn't been really solved for now.
