I thought that this movie was going to be as good as greavedancers but it really dissapointed me. It really made no sense to me whatsoever. It was not even scary!!! Plus basicaslly the whole movie was based inside of the car... I give it 2 thumbs down.
Unrest exceeded my expectations from top to bottom. The atmosphere, mood & pacing were tight. Corri English took the lead & managed to be both easy on the eyes and very beleivable. In fact the chemistry between her & co star Scot Davis was remarkable. As for the plot holes forget it just dont think about it its a minor flaw considering most 1st run movies with 3 times the budget and bigger stars cant muster the kind of craftmanship and authenticity found in this little film
. Heres the plot in a nutshell,a group of med students are assigned to perform their first autopsy when one of the bodies begins to show sighns of life and one by one the 4 people selected to work on the corpse begin turning up dead in the most horrific manner you can imagine. Its not a zombie movie. Its not a ghost story its something all the more realistic. Unrest is a gem. Watch it alone & in the dark.
What's great about it: Good Story
What's not so great: Some Plot holes are confusing
This is another film in the After Dark series that barely makes it over the line to standable or at least straddles the line. This one isnt as good as Mulberry Street and like many in the series looks really amateurish. The overall cheesiness and low budget feel to it will turn off most people right away. However compared to many super low budget films in this series that dont hold your interest at all, this one straddles the line. Some people will be appalled at the poor acting, cheap look and lame plot of this flim but for some people it will barely make it into standable range.
It was different, that's for sure. If you've come looking for a straight-on horror movie, you're better off looking somewhere else. This movie is more horror only in its tone and the occasional "hard-to-watch" scene. These aren't common in this movie, however, and the ending is very good to those who understand the things Francis says. "We're different...born not made. It's different than in the movies." While ironic that it's a movie itself, what he's talking about is often stereotyped badly. Here they are shown for what they are in real life: normal people on the outside and nothing beyond that. Again, if you're looking for a real horror movie, go look elsewhere. This is a horror movie only for those with open minds.
This movie may be a little too high brow for the average horror movie watcher. There are no college co-eds or buckets of blood. So the slasher audience is out. I found this extremely refreshing. Some of the creepiest moments I have ever seen on film. Harkens back to a time when movies had to rely on atmosphere, plot development and acting. Border lining Neo-Hitchcock, the atmosphere of the film alone is worth the watch. The ending was a little convoluted but over all if you are a fan of J-horror or the newer Euro-horror movement this movie is for you.
What's great about it: Creepy moments
What's not so great: Ending was a little to much for me
This was one of the best After Dark Horror films I have seen out of the bunch. The ending had such a great twist, it wasn't something you would have thought of at all if you weren't 100% paying attention. There is one spot where I think it gives away the ending but when you get to the end you're left with thinking "why didn't I noticed that!". I found it to be a pretty good movie. Had me jump a couple of times!
Another very good 'After Dark Horrorfest' film! So far I have seen two and enjoyed them both. This film really did a good job of being scary and intense while keeping the body count relatively low. In most horror films, I usually need a high body count to get my heart pumping for the next scary moment. This was another Horrorfest film that featured good acting for the most part, although the scene where Dominic Purcell's wife found out he was 'being a bad boy' was particularly bad on her part. The only other bad thing I will say about this film is that it needed more scary parts and better 'masks' for the ghosts. The smiling ghost masks they wore were pretty silly unless seen only in the dark. I thought they could have done a much better job with that!
What's great about it: Great After Dark horror film
This movie turned out to be another remake of some Asian movie. So even though the plot was different, it pretty much just reminds you of The Grudge/The Ring/The Eye etc. It had a couple scary parts, which all of the above mentioned movies do, and some jump scenes, but nothing too spectacular. Rated PG-13, so you didn't have hardly any blood or gore. Just scary images. This movie was ok. And I think it's just wearing out this sort of genre of movie.. But since we've seen a lot of these type of scary images before, it ends up just being so-so. Overall, a decent movie. I wouldn't watch it again, or buy it on Blu Ray
