I just watched this movie for the first time, and I must say that it was very well done. The director/actors did a great job of portraying the late 70's english rock scene, as well as the main character's struggles with epilepsy. Overall a great peek at the tragic life of a rising star. Who knows how big Joy Division could have been had he not committed suicide.
Will Smith did a spectactular job in this movie as the last man alive in New York City, ground-zero for the launch of a virus that transformed the majority of man-kind into super-aggressive nocturnal cannabalistic creatures. The relationship between himself and his dog is heartwarming, but for the most part there is a strong sense of anticipation about this film. Just about every second of the way you're expecting these monsters to jump out from around any darkened room, making the experience that much more intense. Once you add bluray quality to the suspense, you suddenly have a recipe for a great movie.
What's great about it: Good plot, amazing picture in bluray
By now most of you have seen the movie, so I'll spare you the details of how great Denzel Washington was here. The movie looks great in blu-ray, with a crystal clear picture it is very sharp with little in the way of noise. I would definitely recommend this version.
While I did find Superman Returns to be a very entertaining movie, I also felt that it left me wanting a better explanation of the past 5 years. The movie itself looks amazing in High Definition, and there's plenty of action to keep many fans satisfied, I felt it lacked depth in the plot and storyline. Granted, this was a superhero movie and I know I shouldn't expect that much from it, but that is exactly what I seem to have done. Anyways, do not go into this movie expecting an amazing plot, but do go with hopes of seeing high quality special effects in HD.
What's great about it: Blu-ray Quality
What's not so great: Lack of depth in the storyline
While I thought Beowulf looked great on bluray, I also felt the movie strayed far too much from the story. I often expect a movie to stray from a book, (or epic, in this case) but from defeating Grendel on, Beowulf the movie was utterly different from the story. While it was entertaining, it was disappointing at the least to see such a vast amount of change on a timeless story.
What's great about it: CGI very realistic
What's not so great: Strays from the actual storyline
Slightly Stoopid puts out another great album, with a very similar feel to all those prior. Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat is a must buy for all those Stoopid fans out there.
Transformers was basically all that I could have asked it to be. This was a great CGI-action movie that most fans of the original cartoon series should appreciate. There's plenty of action, mostly involving Decepticon vs Autobot fighting scenes, a very attractive actress in a leading role, and rumors abound of a sequel, possibly headlined by Starscream and a revived Megatron(possibly in another form.) Highly recommended to action/sci-fi/original Transformers fans, and to many others. Great watch.
What's great about it: Plenty of Action, Amazing CGI
When my buddy first rented this movie I must say I had my doubts, as I hadn't heard of it before and it sounded pretty bad. However, to our delight it turned out to be one of the funniest movies I have EVER seen. I immediately bought it the day after I saw it and have watched it repeatedly ever since. A MUST SEE!!
What's great about it: Non-stop Laughter
What's not so great: Sideache from Non-stop Laughter
I felt this movie was the perfect addition to the Bond series. Daniel Craig is great as the new James Bond, and the action scenes leave few still wanting more. That said, I can't wait for Quantum of Solace!
There were so many hilarious one-liners in this movie that I lost count early on(not that I was actually keeping track.) Superbad is full of raunchy high-school/college level humor that most people can appreciate, since we all get to experience that part of life. It looks especially nice in blu-ray format, and I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good comedy.
